What the hell is wrong with yall? :spank:

If i see ONE more natural head thread that is discouraging me from going natural myself one day..:nono:

I'm noticing a pattern. If yall give up then what are we relaxed wannabes gonna do?

Trying to embrace my little bit of naps and yall talkin' bout flat ironing and pulling, snatching, blow-drying, re-wetting, etc....

What gives?!

And Bublin! You the one who's head i saw and made me want to attempt going natural. Pick yourself up by the bootstraps!:nono2:

How 'bout laying off the "outs" for a minute. Braid outs, twist outs, etc..if the problem is that it dries out badly. Maybe you just need to keep it braided plaited for awhile.

I didn't even know what the "outs" were until I looked it up the other day. I've seen people talk about them for years, but I had no clue. The "outs" actually seem like alot of work and maybe you're just burned out. Just plait it and pin it in some cute style and go OR do the flat iron/hot comb thing for a bit. Sometimes change is a good thing and it sounds like you need a temporary change.

Bublin, people with long hair, do not put their hair in millions of styles, they have one of two styles they use regularly. Even people with long straight hair, they either wear it down or up, or in a long braid. You have beautiful hair. You can book a silkener at the curve salon, if you want more options and they can colour the hair for you.

yeah i so understand what u are going through! i was sick and tired of being a "wet head" so i put my hair in some braids and loved it! Dont give up! i wanted my hair Straight in July so guess what i got it straighten and i really Enjoyed that week off!! Really i did!!i absolutely had nothing to do with myself because my hair was already done that week was great! Before i get the Urge of wanting to straighten my hair again i want to do my homework and learn how to achieve the best results myself! If you already know how Go for it! Hang in there You will make it!
:bighug:

You already know I feel your frustrations. For several months, I have been blowdrying my hair after every wash and wearing it in a fro, braidout, twistout, or puff. I would occassionally press or flat-iron my hair. After awhile, I got tired of using heat...

Well, about a couple of weeks ago, I saw these two videos that made me change my routine to make things easier for me:

Hope that helps sweetie!

Just curious...what are these 2 videos of? I can't open them at work but I'm dying to know what's in it, though...

these are good videos. but out of curiosity, what did you take from them that made your routine easier?

I have really been unhappy with my hair for quite sometime. To make a long story short, I thought about just flatironing my hair often and staying natural, but then I thought that this practice could be just as damaging as getting a relaxer, so why not just cut out the middle man and go full throttle and relax? Next thought was how I noticed several relaxed women still use direct heat occassionally and by this observation I was back at square one again with my decision. I really don't know what to do with my hair. I am honestly SICK of having to wet my natural hair EVERYDAY just so I wrap my hair in a low bun. I am SICK of my dry, stiff natural hair having no life until I wet it. I am SICK of wearing my hair big and full one day and in order to re-create the look I have to , you guessed it, re-wet it and then twist or braid it again. It's like once my hair dries, I can forget it and oh God, the TANGLES!! :wallbash: Fingercombing is not my forte.

I think you are going through the frustration that I think I might undergo once I reach my goal and have lived my goal for a period. I guess you are asking the question, I made it to my goal, been there for awhile, now what?!!!

Your hair is beautiful...to me its also an art. Your hair is healthy, so have fun with it...be versatile.

If not, you can always share some of it with me.

Bubblin,

You've been feeling this way for a looonnngggg time! Maybe you could straighten your hair one week out of the month?

And ya know what, if you want to, then relax your hair. You don't have to come here for permission or justification to do it. Do what will make you happy. :)

Yes, I have:lachen: And I was just venting not coming here for permission or justification.

It's just interesting to see me go from 'militant' at one point to whatever the next.

I agree with Supergirl. Why not give yourself a "vacay". Go to the salon and let them rollerset (and blowdry or flatiron) your hair for you. during the week you can either braid it up or twist in a bun, tie it up, go to sleep and in the morning just take it down?

Also do you baggy? What about baggying your ponytail (or whole head) at night so you don't have to rewet in the morning? Didn't you use to mist your hair with tea? Does that not work for you? Or you can do like you said you were going to do a couple of months ago and just cut a couple of inches. Either way do what will make you happy. (just please don't relax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) LOL

Do what makes you happy! Your hair will be BEAUTIFUL either way.

You are one of my natural inspirations, and you still will be one, even if you decide to relax.

Can you not get 2nd/3rd/4th day hair with a wash 'n go? I would think that with your length, it would be fairly easy. There's a fotki by someone named Kinkerbelle (I'm sure you've probably seen it) who shows how she gets 2nd/3rd/+ day hair without having to fully re-wet the hair everyday.

Also, with hair your length, I'd also think that you'd be able to just pull your hair back into a bun without having to fully re-wet it. Maybe you could just try lightly misting your hair with water, and then smoothing it back into a ponytail/bun to make the process a bit easier instead of having to re-wet totally?

I'm sure you've probably tried everything in the book to make it work, but if not, those are just a couple of suggestions. HTH!

Yea, I've seen Kink's album and she has nice hair, but we have totally different textures and since my hair is longer now, wash and go's make my hair look stringy.

I have frizzy hair so this is most of the reason why it's so stiff when it dries. My hair doesn't dry in a curl/wave pattern.

I noticed when my hair was shorter, my tea spritzes were my friend to freshen up bed head, but if I don't nearly drench my hair in the shower now, I would spend most of my morning spritzing away :lachen:
Thanks for your input.

BTW I love your hair Bubliun, but just remember that many relaxed heads still have to use heat/ rollers when they want to wear their hair down and the hair is more easily damaged. Then you have to battle with stretching/two textures and never being able to really wash and go.Whatever you decide I Know your hair will still be gorgeous.

Yea, that's what I notice, too :perplexed

I will check these links out once I am no longer on the clock. Thanks!

I have some of the same issues when I wear my hair curly. That's why I continue to roller set - it gets my hair straight enough that I don't have to re-wet it to style and is less damaging than flat-ironing and/or relaxing.

Another point: castor oil may not be the best for daily moisturizing, but I can confirm that it works really well on wet hair.

What would you suggest?

Hmmm, I never really baggied. The idea kinda scurred me b/c I thought that it would be setting the hair up for a fungal infection with placing a cap over the head.

Has anyone had success (and no fungal infections) from baggying?

Yea, I used to mist it with certain teas. I need to revisit this.

these are good videos. but out of curiosity, what did you take from them that made your routine easier?
Well, my hair has actually benefited from this routine. My hair is more moisturized, less breakage, and I don't have to worry about shrinkage because it's already in a shrunken-like texture. And I can avoid combing. See, when I used to blowdry my hair out, I would worry about shrinkage and I would sometimes comb my dry hair out after it had shrunken and that was too much stress on my hair. This routine is easier as well because I don't have to spend time blowdrying my hair out.

oh one last suggestion, I promise...How about braiding your hair at night...even in one braid. You will/should notice a difference. Candy_C has a thread around here. I am telling you you may can co-wash every other day or every two days. I noticed the difference when the other day I was too lazy and just put my hair in a bun the next morning it looked horrible.

I am going through this too!!!!!! I just posted about it. I had to saturate my hair all week just to get it into a bun. I'm 32 weeks & 4 days post relaxer.

I guess it won't get easier with longer/fuller hair like I was hoping.

Add me to the natchalswhoaretiredoftheirhair list!

Sorry I have nothing to add...:ohwell:...but I feel your pain. I have to conditioner wash every morning just to do a bun, so I feel you...

ETA: Umm...what about rollersetting? (Don't laugh at me for asking that!) lol

It's not a bad suggestion. This what I've been doing for the last month. The final straw was when I very recently wore a wash n go and my recently trimmed ends were full of splits due to the knotting and tangling. I had retained almost all my growth from the previous month so you know I was p*ssed. So I've gone back to rollersetting/silk wrap once a week and flatironing the roots (or sometimes a pass all the way to the ends :look:). My hair seems to be thriving and I've had no more splitting. I love wearing my wash n gos and puff, but at this point, I'm going to have to retire in return for more length retention :ohwell:

I also have pics in my rollersets in my fotki

First OP you have GORGEOUS hair. Second, I haven't had time to do my review on Sabino, but it will be fantastic. Why? I got great results after using only TWO products - Joico leave in & Sabino. You seem to be complaining of frizziness & wanting that controlled defined look your wet hair has, but when dry. Have you checked out Sabino's stuff or threads or videos? Maybe it can help you to enjoy your hair more & spend less time on it. HTH

how do you want to wear your hair? do you plan on wearing it straight, and down, all the time? in that case, relaxing might be an option. you can rollerset your relaxed hair on big rollers, and sit under the dryer using macherie's rollersetting method.

if you want straight hair, but want to wear it curly, you could air-dry flexirod sets. this is what i do most of the time. i'll set my hair on rollers in the evening, and take them out in the a.m. no heat, or any type of manipulation necessary.

i'm relaxed, and only use direct heat maybe... once or twice a month. and i've started blow-drying my hair with cool air, and i've noticed that that's helped my hair.

but if you're just plain ol' bored, and don't know what to do... maybe BC again? and start your journey over again? no? ok. lol!

I can't think of the member...God I wish I knew her name, but her natural had grew to mid back length and then she BC again. This was over a year ago, so I would love to see her progress.

Your hair is gorgeous but do what is best for you. When I am having frizz issues cones help, I know they aren't considered great to use regularly but they really help combat frizz. Why don't you try a routine similar to pinkskates where your straighten every 2 weeks, that might work for your hair but I think you could get your hair pretty straight from rollersetting on large rollers. I would also add if you don't already have a good natural stylist find one. Sometime I get frustrated and realize it's because I'm tired of dealing w/my hair in general. Let somebody else-that you can trust-deal w/it for a change.
