Ventation full of Frustration, lol

It's not a bad suggestion. This what I've been doing for the last month. The final straw was when I very recently wore a wash n go and my recently trimmed ends were full of splits due to the knotting and tangling. I had retained almost all my growth from the previous month so you know I was p*ssed. So I've gone back to rollersetting/silk wrap once a week and flatironing the roots (or sometimes a pass all the way to the ends :look:). My hair seems to be thriving and I've had no more splitting. I love wearing my wash n gos and puff, but at this point, I'm going to have to retire in return for more length retention :ohwell:

I also have pics in my rollersets in my fotki

I'm actually gonna try a rollerset this weekend (with just a couple of rollers---I'm too lazy to do a "test" on my whole entire head :nono: lol)

*off to check out ur fotki rollerset pics*! :drunk:

I use castor oil.

Let me add something about my hair. You know how people desire that big hair once they go natural? Well for me, that's not really the case. I can't put my finger on how to explain the 'thickness' of my hair but one thing I can say- in order to get if full, I have to play with it, shake my head, pull and tug at it, let a little bit of moisture get to it, etc etc. Ofcourse it looks thicker than when I had a relaxer, but it's really not that poofalicious. Matter of fact, I am wondering if I am balding in my crown. When I touch it, I don't have to search and pull apart hair to get to my scalp at all.

I understand how you feel on this one. My hair is short but its not so short as to where it should still feel like I have no hair. I have to "tease" my hair like those people in the 80's. I know even with length I'll never get that big hair people complain about. Part of the reason for me going natural was that I wanted my hair to be thicker.

I have really been unhappy with my hair for quite sometime. To make a long story short, I thought about just flatironing my hair often and staying natural, but then I thought that this practice could be just as damaging as getting a relaxer, so why not just cut out the middle man and go full throttle and relax? Next thought was how I noticed several relaxed women still use direct heat occassionally and by this observation I was back at square one again with my decision. I really don't know what to do with my hair. I am honestly SICK of having to wet my natural hair EVERYDAY just so I wrap my hair in a low bun. I am SICK of my dry, stiff natural hair having no life until I wet it. I am SICK of wearing my hair big and full one day and in order to re-create the look I have to , you guessed it, re-wet it and then twist or braid it again. It's like once my hair dries, I can forget it and oh God, the TANGLES!! :wallbash: Fingercombing is not my forte.

I haven't read all the responses, but I know exactly how you feel, and that's why I cut mine. I AM NOT SUGGESTING YOU CUT YOUR HAIR!!!! But, I know how you feel. I was tired of the long detangling sessions. Putting it in a bun only to have it tangled, and then having to rewet to get the tangles out, then having to wait all day before it dried. I'm not saying I won't grow my hair out again, but at this point in my life I just wasn't willing to invest the time and energy I was putting into it, just to be discouraged after all the work.

I hope that you can work through your frustrations, and make peace with your hair.

Don't remind me that you cut your hair :wallbash: Girl, I was JUST thinking about how quickly you went from twa to waist length. On the outside looking in it appeared that your longer hair was no issue for you, but I see it was since you cut it. I have been inching to cut it back shoulder blade length though.

Did you cut your hair yourself?

Dang this thread grew! Yes girl, I cut it myself. I did it inch by inch so that I wouldn't jack it up too bad, lol!

You'll still be one of my idols whether you cut, relax, whatever! I can't help much because I only had a one-year stint as a natural and I was keeping my hair braided, but I would agree with the people who said straighten it, or put it away and out of site.

I understand you , you have beautiful and thick hair but not easy to " deal with" .
Courage , Do what you think be the best for you ... I texlaxed my DD's hair because I have almost the same kind of problem .... Now she feels better and me too .
Good luck .

E-hugs. Have you tried any different natural styles? I am not natural but relaxed, still I know how it is when you just get tired of your hair. What about flat two strand twists for a style. Or cornrows- a la Alicia Keys--. Uhm, do some funky stylish ponies. From your siggy, your hair looks kind of like my son's in that it is naturally thin and requires some wetness to look like something. what about some different types of bun--chinese bun comes to mind.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck, and remember, heat, when used properly is not terribly damaging, and relaxers are the same, if you know how to care for relaxed hair(which I am just figuring out) you can keep your length and health. and it may be that for you straight hair is more versatile.

lol @ ventation....

anyway i think if you cut your hair some (into a "style" or layers) that you'd might be happier. or you could do like me this fall and straighten once a month... that way you have a full week, or two weeks... where you don't even worry about the natchal knots/tangles and things...

Overall i hope you do what makes you happy, you have beautiful hair no matter what you do to it.

You know I understand how you feel. Cause I lost it one day and relaxed. I just don't think my life style really works for so much hair especially since it involves wetting it and detangling. Even with relaxed hair, my hair requires lot of detangling because it is resistant to getting straight as it was back before I went natural.

I decided, I will have a great time with all of this hair for now. I will never let my hair get extra long because I just can't deal. I will continue doing my half inch trims every few months. Style it however I want heat whatever and when I am ready to grow it back out, I will but I will not let it get much longer than shoulder length. Maybe like Kinkerbelle's hair. Even though our textures are not the same. I will color however I like and basically regrow a new head of hair every year.

I thought I could do the extremely long hair natural and I could not. I thought I could relax it and maybe I would stop cutting it and let it grow and I have stopped cutting it so much but I am too used to being natural now. I also refuse to run in the rain or stay out of the pool. So I will keep it short and natural once I decide to cut this relaxer out. Until then I will have a good time with this hair.

Good luck with everything. You know I understand.

Add me to the natchalswhoaretiredoftheirhair list!

Sorry I have nothing to add...:ohwell:...but I feel your pain. I have to conditioner wash every morning just to do a bun, so I feel you...

ETA: Umm...what about rollersetting? (Don't laugh at me for asking that!) lol

Me three. I was thinking about locing my hair but a friend told me my hair will look frizzy for years before it actually loc:nono:. I'm really considering texlax:blush:.
