I saw that this morning. When the guys were giving they're reasons for not liking curly hair I was thinking to myself everyone does not have straight hair and they must think black women with natural hair are really wild. :look:

I thought the same thing! It was very interesting to hear the different views about interviews and jobs.

I know.... I thought that too. As a matter of fact - they did not talk about the Black girl in the story.

I am thinking that hopefully - curly girls will be seen as grounded all the time.

cool maybe now i can get a job, funny thing when i go on interviews, i try to wear my hair straight thinking that they may think its more professional. They asked white men and they like blonde hair blue eyes, i'm know some brothers like curly hair...

It didn't play everything! I think that we are soo caught with being an ideal, that many cannot play. First, to way what is 'better', that is crazy! That is still trying to ensue, that what being Anglofied, is 'better'.:ohwell:

To be honest, I find that men like black women with curly or natural hair. When its white women, totally different story. But, I think their curls are not as attractive because they are not as well formed, so the curls look more frizzy and frazzled than attractive. The correspondents curls were not pretty to me at all. I also don't like wavy hair, nor do I think men like wavy hair. Tighter more uniformed curls are gorgeous on any woman of any race.

ITA, I was watching it at work (had to get in early) and I was like, those fools know they have someone with curly hair in their family...:nono:

Didn't stop me from  my hair any less though, and the interviewer was on my side :giggle:

Was I the only person who caught it when the (white) children were interviewed and one of the little white girls said she liked the straight-haired version because her hair was straight?....

My thought was "Wow... the brainwashing happens very early...."

I think the strongest message from the commentator was when she made note that she got the higher marks from the interviewers when she had her curly hair versus her straight hair. In her curly version, she was more of herself, therefore she had more confidence, self-assurance, etc.

The little girl was Asian - actually - interesting.

Interesting.

I wonder what the responses would have been with a Black woman who compared reactions to her naturallly curly hair vs her straightened hair.

what kind of flat iron was that

It looked like the BaBylss Pro.

I thought the story was interesting too. I thought her straight hair "style" was simply a little better than her curly "style," but I liked her hair curly too. I don't wear my hair down for interviews though, whether it's curly or straight.

With both the kids and the men, I looked at it as more as generational conditioning than anything--if you grow up "learning" that bed head is curly hair, or if you associate wild and unruly hair as bad or uncombed, and then see her hair... :perplexed. It's no wonder that many people preferred her straight hair to curly. I love curly hair, and even I was sort of more drawn to her straight hair sometimes. I wonder if she'd gotten the same reaction from the guys with a curly updo with a few tendrils hanging down?

I cought that, and it made since to me since you probally are going to be more attracted to what looks like you...and it made me think that if most of the world had curly hair things would be different.

I also wonder if our kind of curly hair or afros and 4a/b hair also get the same respone....Would interviewers rather see a black women walk in the door with an afro or with straight hair? Im thinking an afro they would assume this woman has alot of confidence and with straight hair...I dont know.

I think I've read that much of the world does have wavy or curly hair--they just straighten it out of existence (and in the case of men, don't let it grow long enough to ever see the waves/curls). :spinning:

I will say that almost every person at my company prefers my natural hair to my straight hair. I think they feels it's more interesting and more flattering. My SO likes straight hair, but he really /just prefers my hair down/loose rather than up, whether it's natural or straightened.

yeah i was curious to hear what they would have said about the black girl:look:, i hope ot wasnt too bad to be revealed. very interesting though,

that was very interesting. I was surprised that the Asian girl said she likes the straight hair cause her hair is like that too.

The men shown in that segment are stupid. They didn't even notice that it was the same woman!!! I've come to the realization that men will like whatever women tell them to like. However you chose to wear your hair, wear it with confidence. Thats what really makes women attractive anyway.

Okay, I watched it and changed what I said!

First, when the man said that a group of guys are not standing around talking about a woman's head, I think that is true, regardless of what they find attractive. DH would tell me as long as the woman was confident and groomed well, they could care less if she had long, short, curly or straight hair. I really don't think men are that too concerned. :ohwell:

Second, she scored higher with curly hair during the interview, because she was herself. IMHO, anytime people are themselves, or are good in their own skin, they will come across as confident. Though straight hair, did look good on her too, just by looking at it, I am pretty sure in person, she would have given off, a better vibe with her curly hair.

Third, DH likes my hair curly, he is NOT AT ALL crazy about straight hair on me. So, it depends on the man!:look:

I disagree that men could care less. I've seen men sit around talking about girls having straight long hair. I've set up 2 different guys with friends of mine and when they were describing what kind of girl they wanted, they both said at least shoulder length hair. My own DH was very weird with me after I cut my own hair. I do agree that some men care about other things, but I think a lot of men are maybe even stuck on long straight hair.

I enjoyed that video. I remember on naturallycurly.com when they got mad because Oprah did a makeover show and had all of the curly haired womens hair straightened and the only black lady (with natural hair) got a straight weave

This video is very interesting....

There are several white women on my job that has natural curly hair...

One particular lady hair is absolutely gorgeous .... I know for a fact if she was in that video there is no way those men would have made those comments about her. She receives compliments from men and women at my job!

Yeah, I read that about 60% of Americans have curly hair, and if we're the world's "melting pot" I take that to be a good cross section of the rest of the world.

Yeahhh..but I don't think they are sitting around like women holding discussions like that! If that were the case they wouldn't hit on curly head women, short haired women, and so on. I am pretty sure they are vague, but not so precise. Yes, the majority of them have an idea, but heck if someone around their taste comes along, with everything but, I highly doubt they will turn her down. When the lights go out, it all looks the same!:perplexed
