So true. You can only recommend something so much before you can feel like you're wasting your breath. I've told my family members and friends about this site, not cause their hair is jacked, but because they complain about not knowing how to care for it or "make it grow," and I just don't think they're ready to change. I found this place in Dec of '07 after finally just getting really sick of not having answers to why my hair sucked and was motivated enough to make necessary changes. And have reaped the benefits.
Of course, as their "punishment," I talk for hours about shampoos, conditioners, steaming, combing, brushing, moisturizing, styling... hoping they pick up a tip or two!

I've thought about making flyers and handing them out at the beauty salon I get my touch ups because I see some seriously chewed up hair coming in and they all look at me on the sly when I am getting my hair done. I feel like saying, "Girl, you too can have hair like this. Check out LHCF and start doing your hair at home." The salon owner would not be too happy with me, but maybe she too could learn a couple of tricks from this site. Imagine how much mula she'd make if she cared for her client's hair and they all walked out of her shop with long, luscious locks and not some chewed up, over processed hair...

I wish there were TV commercials, newspaper prints, billboards ..something! I see soooo many sisters who can benefit from this site, so many, and I know darn well that more than half of the women in those beauty supply stores buying extensions etc.. would eventually stop permanently if they KNEW how to grow their own healthy long hair. With the conditioning mindset of “nappy is ugly”….”black hair is a curse”…”our hair will never grow” etc many are doomed from the start.

Then You have some children who will celebrate their 6th birthday with a $80 weave and NO hairline. Sad. I use to work with a lady who’s husband never saw her real hair, She called me over to help take out her extensions when she was pregnant, and good grief the stench of her hair could put you in tears!! We heard someone coming in her front door and she thought it was her husband, so she ran and locked herself in the washroom almost breaking her leg over the phone cord. I was sad the whole day

ITA but they are too stuck in their ways to change. If I were a stylist I would want my clients hair to be healthy so their friends could as about ME and I could make more money.


I have to give up on my friends because all they care about is the style. They could give a damn about the health and dont even get me started about the length because " I can always get a weave" is sooooo much easier then ever taking the time to care for their own hair and watching it grow. After a long talk with my best friend about this website and some steps she can take to prevent breakage ( I'm always trying to recruit) she asked me about Dr. Miracle products because " the commercial looked great". Even after I warned her against it she still bought the darn thing.

Well u can also add the site address at the bottom of emails that u send to friends with a little quote or something that gets it out there. I don't tell anyone any more. I tried and ppl just looked at me crazy like as if to say wth. Now I just look and shake my head at all of the glued hair do's and ppl that have worn weave so long they anit got no mo hair and my favorite the weave that don't match the texture or ur hair the color.

U got kinky roots n a straight pony and ur hair is black with red streaks but ur pony is blonde now thats just sad. My sister in law glues her hair up all the time and her air is thin, dry and choppy in the back, but u canit tell her she aint hot stuff. uuummummph.

My mom too. I bought Mega Tek and spent 25 dollars on a liter of Humectress and my mom damn near cussed me out about buying these things but GUESS who is using it like SHE paid for it and telling me how great it works . I'm like "yeah mom....ok ".

this is my mom to a TEE...tryna cowash her hair with my kenra mc but she wont log on to read a damn thang. "i'm tired of reading, i read enough for school" is her excuse...but thats another forum.

i'm tired of trying. i tried to pass on stuff to my family - the people who need it MOST - when i first discovered LHCF and they look at me like i have three heads. now that my mom, sis and i all have healthy hair they still continue to find something negative to say about our hair.

A friend of mine is natural but she presses her hair regularly. Once I did bantu knots of her to get her hair straight without pressing. Her hair looked nice but then my other friend starting amking comments about her edges being frizzy and that was the end of that

I don't really tell people about this site. I just do my hair and keep it moving. I only help my mother. She is the example of how your hair can get ruined. She has traction alopecia on 50% of her head. After a bad perm (around the time of my birth) she started getting weaves, and she went to a hairdresser that was heavy handed and did them tight). She did this for YEARS!!!! Now is is bald. I get so angry sometimes because I can't understand how she just kept going to someone who was making her bald. I feel bad and angry at the same time. She is getting some growth again but I think most of the folicles are gone forever. We can get into arguments sometimes because she thinks this board and I have all the answers to just let her hair grow again. But she was the one who saw her hair falling out and did nothing

That was a big tangent, Im sorry. I just wish back women who be more in charge of their hair and more attentive/ smart about whats being done to it

I know you're trying to be kind and helpful, but this could go horribly wrong. Some people are super touchy about their hair and flip out if they get any kind of vibe that you're judging their hair and don't find it up to par. Now if they ask you about your hair care, then by all means give em a card!

I'm really sorry to read that. I'm sure there may be something your mom can do to help grow her hair back. What kind of stylist could with good conscious do this to someone?

I know what u mean. But sometimes the knowledge/revelation someone has doesn't work for all. I found that out the hard way, just with weight loss....different forum for that.

My daughter suffered the baldness and so did I from pulling too tight. My grandmother used to always loosen the rubberbands when I went to her house and now I see y. She kept sayin your gonna damage your hair, and she couldn't recall the term at the time, but she said its a word they use for the scalp. Now I know she meant follicle.

I've created my card. However I'm not sure if I will do flyer or card or both. I was thinking about a few responses, that felt it might be offensive. As I stated I wouldn't just approach anyone. Alot of times ladies are discussing hair in places I frequent, so I may mention the site, if they seem interested I will give a card.

Another poster...I forget who..sorry suggested putting them out so anyone could grab one, I thought that was an excellent idea. When I go to the BSS I always see business cards and flyers so I will just add mine and hope a lot of ladies make the choice to visit this site. Because this is a wonderful thing created to gain, maintain, and properly care for hair.

My mom and I was talking bout how black woman have really got this market for haircare sewed up. By that i mean we spend billions of dollars on hair products just to reach a desired look. I am included in that, I invest so much money, to the point I even have ppl contributing to my addiction of haircare

I was in Kim's Beauty Supply and over heard this caucasion woman going off on the manager. She was cussing, ranting and raving about they gave her the wrong weave. I was like wait a minute, I had to take a double look at this erplexed.....White woman dun went off. I was cracking up, saying to myself she sound like me, if my weave ain't right. Anyway apparently she had some kind of accident and lost all of her hair, I ain't eva seen a white persons hair look like that. What was killin about it is, she had the track package in her hand and some tracks glued in her head, trying to get an exchange...too funny y'all

But seriously, I was thinking yesterday I want to print up some LHCF cards that I can hand out to women when I see them in the store. I just don't want anyone to get offended if I hand them one. I see plenty of sistah's, white, and bi-racial. etc in need of some refuge. I was one of them, but I just so happen to stumble across this site through prayer.

Okay I think I left the wrong impression. I'm not gonna be just walking around handing out cards to ppl I "assume" have jacked up hair. From the many times I have visited stores that carry hair products a lot of ladies sometimes openly discuss hair. I would never just rudely directly or indirectly give someone an impression that their hair is a mess. But anyhooo I still think I will do this. Just to help those that are open to it.

I found this site by doing my own research and I love that the majority of people here found it on their own...Trolls are a horrible thing and because many women will not take the time to do the work to gain healthy hair they may do some nasty, envious stuff..but you'll have to experience the backlash to understand what I mean.

Don't do it....it'll destroy this site, trust me. I've been around long before my sign up date (as a reader/lurker) and things aren't the same from then to now w/ people just finding it on their own. If recruited, the quality will really go down.

People who are interested in this and wanting to make a change will find this and other sites like it.

Really, you think ppl will come here to sabotage. Since I have been on the site, I haven't witnessed that. Of course I've only been here a few months. I didn't look at it from that prespective.erplexed

So what is the difference in mentioning it in general conversation and giving a card. My gesture is not to destroy the site. I felt it should be known to ladies round about that there is info out to help us. Wow wasn't trying to offend anyone, that totally goes against my intention.

This is right up there with somebody who wanted to write a letter to Oprah.

If they arent asking for your help they dont need it. If you think they need it, wait for them to ask. If you are staring at everyone's hair and sizing them up figuring out what LHCF would say they need to do to fix their hair, etc... just take a break and realize that its just hair, and not only that its their hair, and many people dont take kindly to strangers (even friends/family sometimes) telling them that they need help or where to go to get it.

Good intentions yes, but is it OK to pass out cards telling people they need to come to LHCF? I dont think so. (MY opinion though).

Tigget75....your heart is in the right place and I'm glad this place is working for you. Even tho the site is now a pay-per-play, I think the tone will change if there's widespread recruiting. If you start, others will too. I really don't want people spamming the boards trying to sell stuff and that's sure to happen if the trend catches on. I'm all for new members, but people tend to come to things like this for very personal reasons. They search and find. At the end of the day, it's an individual journey.

I'm really sorry to read that. I'm sure there may be something your mom can do to help grow her hair back. What kind of stylist could with good conscious do this to someone?

My mom spent about 5,000 on some laser stimulant that was a year process. She has to wear a wig constantly and can only take it off when she is in the house. If she could not wear a wig she might get more growth

But yes I hate what her hair dresser did to her. She would braid the hair tight and then sew the weave in tight. But she KNEW that my mother's hair was gone. My mom said she did not know how bad it was until she decided to take the weave out one day. But that was 13 years of damage

come to think of it I never saw my mother's hair growing up until she took out the weave and I saw she was bald. I just wish she had run away when she saw her hairline is gone. But my mom was a very passive person in those days (and I struggling single mom) so I guess she didn't have the energy to leave

Yes. And with the Ateyaa drama we saw that there are some real LHCF haters (Stallions!!!!) out there are I would like to keep them away and at bay!
Its kinda like how a house that is too big looses it cozyness...
