If only all Sistas knew about this site and proper haircare we wouldn't have to make these asians so rich.

My mom and I was talking bout how black woman have really got this market for haircare sewed up. By that i mean we spend billions of dollars on hair products just to reach a desired look. I am included in that, I invest so much money, to the point I even have ppl contributing to my addiction of haircare:lachen:

I was in Kim's Beauty Supply and over heard this caucasion woman going off on the manager. She was cussing, ranting and raving about they gave her the wrong weave. I was like wait a minute, I had to take a double look at this :perplexed.....White woman dun went off. I was cracking up, saying to myself she sound like me, if my weave ain't right. Anyway apparently she had some kind of accident and lost all of her hair, I ain't eva seen a white persons hair look like that. What was killin about it is, she had the track package in her hand and some tracks glued in her head, trying to get an exchange...too funny y'all

But seriously, I was thinking yesterday I want to print up some LHCF cards :giveheart:that I can hand out to women when I see them in the store. I just don't want anyone to get offended if I hand them one. I see plenty of sistah's, white, and bi-racial. etc in need of some refuge. I was one of them, but I just so happen to stumble across this site through prayer.

Okay I think I left the wrong impression. I'm not gonna be just walking around handing out cards to ppl I "assume" have jacked up hair. From the many times I have visited stores that carry hair products a lot of ladies sometimes openly discuss hair. I would never just rudely directly or indirectly give someone an impression that their hair is a mess. But anyhooo I still think I will do this. Just to help those that are open to it.

I agree. I have always thought it would be helpful to just hand a card to those in need and keep it moving.

I agree - I was traveling over the weekend, and I saw so many to'up heads on women of all colors - I would love to be able to give people a lil business card, and keep on moving. :yep:

I really want to give it to the sisters that still use the black gel to glue down their baby hairs in a wavy pattern, and those that wear THICK phony ponies yet have balding edges...

AMEN. I have told all my friends about this site but they just tell me to stop talking after I tell them the membership fee . I'm like come oooooooon you are paying stylists all this money to do your hair for you in styles you can do yourself but you cant pay $6 something for a year membership?

I wanted my mom to join but she is not interested in the computer for anything other than spreadsheets and emails. She just tells me to look up things for her and she follows the advice....so its a start (especially with her the queen of stuborness :drunk:).

Your heart is in the right place but i've learned only give help when asked.

yeah I would of course do it with tact. I mean if I engage in conversation w/ someone I could just suggest the site, hand card, and move on. I wouldn't impose anything on anyone. I don't like that myself. But I see a lot of to'up heads and just saddens me to see this. Mine is a work in progress, but I feel if only I had known the proper care tips before.

Yep I'm thinking it would be easier to just kinda mention the site and then hand the card. I will do this, who knows what they will do w/ the card. But for those that it will help could reap a lot of benefit from it.

I tell my family about it all the time, then they always call and ask what was the name of that site again :wallbash: My mom is all good about the tips I share w/ her, plus all my products...hmmmmm....she need to get ha' own.:lachen:

Exactly. Not everyone wants direction and unsolicited advice. If someone comes to me for help I am more than willing to assist them but I don't know that I would share LHCF with everyone with jacked up hair. I think sometimes its best of we seek out what we want to find.:yep:

Right, and some of my friends believe this site is only for 'long haired women', so they don't feel like they will belong even though I tell them the opposite.

That is so true..... When I go to the beauty supply to buy my hair products and if they are out of what I need they will suggest something else, I just simply smile and say no thank you I'll go somewhere else. Part of the problem is proper haircare, they cannot possible know what my hair needs and require if they haven't "spent time" with my hair and that goes for anyone, even so called stylistsl. It's not one size fit all....

My mom too. I bought Mega Tek and spent 25 dollars on a liter of Humectress and my mom damn near cussed me out about buying these things but GUESS who is using it like SHE paid for it and telling me how great it works :lachen:. I'm like "yeah mom....ok ".

Yes... It is hard to tell someone about conditioning for an hour. Some people look at me like I have 2 heads.

So - then - I stop talking.
:nono:

I stopped explaining hair related information. Now I just write down the website and tell them to call me once they visited the site. If they actually make a point to check the site I know they will probably get hooked on the site and figure out there own personal routine.

see...thats wut im sayin. I seen some poor childs hair yesterday, I mean she was prolly 13/14 and had so many bobbie pins in her hair. She didn't have a lot of hair and so she had to use them to keep the hair laid in place to form her pony tail. UUUUUGh that bothers me, I want parents to do better.

My mom didn't care for my hair so I was always the lil nappy headed chile runnin around, lookin like Turbo from Breakin 1 & 2 (i know yall remember that movie TKO, turbo, kelly, ozone) come on....

lol...okay I know we can go on and on about that...but see yesterday I'm at work, and my mom had my niece over. They called me at work, and asked which shampoo and conditioner do they use so she can hook my niece's hair up. I was like.....HOLD UP ..WAIT A MINUTE!! LOL, you can't be hookin folks up wit my money. Of course I went ahead and let her use it but that ain't gon' work.

I don't call it a haircare forum it's a life forum to me.
Where else can you go on the internet and
1. learn how to cook
2. get advice about problems
3. hair tips
4. skincare tips
5. you can become that girl
6. fitness tips
7. you can have deep intellectual discussions about politics, religion, whatever
8. you can gossip about celebrities- that's not benefitial to you but it's fun.
9. learn to eat healthy
10. and so much more.

I wish there were TV commercials, newspaper prints, billboards ..something! I see soooo many sisters who can benefit from this site, so many, and I know darn well that more than half of the women in those beauty supply stores buying extensions etc.. would eventually stop permanently if they KNEW how to grow their own healthy long hair. With the conditioning mindset of “nappy is ugly”….”black hair is a curse”…”our hair will never grow” etc many are doomed from the start.

Then You have some children who will celebrate their 6th birthday with a $80 weave and NO hairline. Sad. I use to work with a lady who’s husband never saw her real hair, She called me over to help take out her extensions when she was pregnant, and good grief the stench of her hair could put you in tears!! We heard someone coming in her front door and she thought it was her husband, so she ran and locked herself in the washroom almost breaking her leg over the phone cord. I was sad the whole day :nono:

I think when a person is ready to make that change they will. Some people really want hair advice and will follow it when given. Then their are soooo many that say they want help or advice, but once it is given, they won't follow it. What can you do?!?:perplexed

there should be a spot on this site where we can print off cards that look like a mini version of that new logo up top on the site so we can casually drop em in front of folks that could use em lol.

I haven't been on this site long, but I can understand what you mean. I think it will greatly benefit sisters if they knew of a site where you can get advice about hair that the Asian vendors or even your own hairstylists won't tell you (because they probably care more about money). While it's a good idea to hand out cards, it could be offensive if you hand it out to the wrong person. I used to have business cards and what I would do is if they didn't ask for it, I'll just leave it somewhere so someone might pick it up. Maybe you can hide some cards by the shampoos lol. In order to make that work though, the card have to be eye-catching.

good idea...I love the new banner on the forum, so that would really compliment the cards. I wonder if the site will put something like this together. I would print them off and hand them out as needed/requested

Same here. I help my Mom with things when she asks but she wouldn't be interested in actually joining. I either recommend products to her or do research here so I can find her some answers. If Henna and Indigo work out well for me I'm going to turn her on to it.

It would be great if more black women had more knowledge about proper haircare. The really sad thing is that they spend so much money in BSS and at salons and their hair is still usually average looking and short.

Completely agree. When folks are truly tired of their hair looking a wreck than they will find a way for it not to. I'm sorry but this isn't 20, or even 10 years ago. There is information, free information, everywhere. You can find any and everything online.

The other people who claim they want to know but then have that glazed over look when you start telling them, I just don't even bother with them.

EXACTLY...ITA...the point is get the word out to these ladies. You know I go into these Asian owned stores, and they ain't carin nothing about the health of 'our' hair. Its all about the money. Whats pathetic is they will try to offer me something and because I come here daily and have learned so much, I know better than to use their suggestions.

But what I am really thankful for is, I have a choice now, I don't HAVE to wear weaves. I will, but don't HAVE to like I used to.

So true. You can only recommend something so much before you can feel like you're wasting your breath. I've told my family members and friends about this site, not cause their hair is jacked, but because they complain about not knowing how to care for it or "make it grow," and I just don't think they're ready to change. I found this place in Dec of '07 after finally just getting really sick of not having answers to why my hair sucked and was motivated enough to make necessary changes. And have reaped the benefits.
Of course, as their "punishment," I talk for hours about shampoos, conditioners, steaming, combing, brushing, moisturizing, styling...:phone: hoping they pick up a tip or two!

Thats where I was about 2 years ago & up til I found this site this year. I went through a period where I had no clue how to remedy my fallen hair. I mean literally when I touched my hair it would fall out. All I knew to do was throw on a wig, take everyones advice at the stores...which was so wrong. But one day through all my tears I decided to google, thinking could my answer really be online somewhere. Well the first page I ran across was Cathy Howse method. I ordered it several times, didn't care how much it would cost me, but still there was something lacking because my hair still wasn't responding right.

I eliminated chemicals but hair still looked a mess, finally I decided to go back to a relaxer this time, a mild one, Optimum Multi -mineral, it worked really well. It didn't over-process my hair and I used the whole line. What what prompted me to come over to LHCF was I did a google search on Optimum Multi-Mineral reviews and found Reniece hair on Fotki she used it. From that point I viewed a lot of albums and was finally lead to LHCF. But this was after my hair fell out to the scalp, I would hate for anyone to go thru this.

Yes we know there is news out there, but some ppl don't know where to begin. I know this cause I was one of those ppl. But again through prayer I believe I was lead here to the board. Now my kids and I can have healthy hair, and don't have to fit the look of untrained african hair....broken, short, and unhealthy.
