im sad that i can look at pics from the beginning of the year and pics now and hardly notice any difference... idk why it seems i just cant get the hang of this... i would have expected to be a lot closer to apl by now than i am *sigh* it looks like this year will come full circle and i wont be nowhere other than one inch longer than where i started from

i wanted to prove that i could grow my hair wearing it out but it doesnt look like im being very good at it... maybe this year til april or so i'll try to keep a sew in up because i usually see growth with those.

i know a lot, if not most, ladies here eventually get in the swing of things and just learn to grow their hair out eventually by routine... but is there anyone else who... just couldnt seem to make it happen with all the "regimens" and "routines" and just slapped weave on in order to get things popping?

Sort of. I don't wear weaves for growth as much as I wear them for practicality. I know the growth will come regardless of the weave but since I'm not fiddling with it all day-everyday, I retain more and that makes me happy :).

I am all about protective styling anyway so full sew-in allows me to miss my hair but remain pleasantly suprised about the progress when I take it out 3-4 weeks later.

I never really enjoy my hair when it's "out" (meaning straightened and bumped) because I'm always worried about my ends or the style doesn't last long enough.

Basically, in order to maintain my sanity, buns and sew-ins keep me on track for mid-back and it doesn't take much effort.

Get outta my head! I do. I found that my hair didn't seem to have retained much length from Jan-May, I put in a full weave June to last week (July) and I have noticeable growth- I've decided if I'm to reach my APL goal by Dec I've GOT to have it fully weaved up till Dec - at the moment waiting for my stylist to confirm my appointment so in cornrows...

Girl you are not the only one, Im natural and this leaving out this is not as easy as it seemed, the positive is that my hair is alot more moisturized as I co wash everyday but, my edges and ends still dont seem to be improving- darn years of wearing heavy briads!!! :wallbash:

But Im going to slap on a full weave and keep doing so for the next year... but I will be leaving my edges out at the sides, just let the weave hang over them. I want to be bra strap length by next march, so if a weave is gonna get me there then backside I will do it!!:yep:

I think I've become obsessed with long hair....:look:

I know that it is a great PS. My sister went from pixie cut(EL) to past to almost APL in 2 years wearing sew ins. I have gotten good growth also. I am not one to leave my hair out anymore. I am currently in braids, but sew ins are also my choice. No hair left out for my anymore, well, at least for a while!:ohwell:

I wear weaves for growth and you need to check out my siggy. I was rocking a weave since March until now. [not the same weave]...My hair has thickened up and it grew.

--I guess I could say it was going to grow regardless, but I don't know if that makes sense to me,because if that's the case why do we cowash, wear protective styles, use growth aids. etc. We know that our hair is going to grow but we try to hasten the process. && I think weaves does just that.

I am giving weaves a break for the month of AUgust, but I'm right back on it in September. I truly want APL by next Feb, it would be a dream come true.

I agree with the bolded. I don't wear weaves, but have been getting braids. I was putting it off for a looong time! I thought I would miss my hair too much. But, they have helped me concentrate on other things in my life and not worry about styling and things. I need that right now.

But, like Malibu says about weaves, when I removed my braids after 4 weeks, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I retained in just that short amount of time. I think I am going to stick with them for a bit just to see how much I can really retain. it won't hurt.

Yup. I feel like the only way I'm gonna get to BSL is wit sew-ins. :ohwell:

Planning on being weaved up until the end of the year.

I definitely know where you're coming from. I only really see my retention when I wear my sewins, and as you can tell in my siggie, it sure as heck works. I can't retain as much length when I try it on my own. For me, if weaves as a protective style works, that's what I'm sticking with.

Go on and get you some weave. I bet you can get to APL by December. :yep: I know it sure as heck has gotten me 2" from BSL in a very short time.
