I HEAR U GYM!!!!!!!!!

I mean if people want to try new products then shouldn't they do research first! We do not have stickies for nothing or a sticki that teaches people how to use the Search feature! Then if people still have questions, then ask, but there's the search feature, the advanced search feature, and even a search feature within threads. Use them people!

Here's my thoughts... I think that some people believe thier regimen is perfect. Every product they use is perfect and when people say they dont like it or had a bad experience with it, other people get pissy. I feel like people have started attacking people over products. People should be free to post what they liked or didnt like about a product, vendor, technique or anything else hair related on this board WITHOUT BACKLASH OR PERSONAL ATTACKS! Yes some of us go the unconventional route. And yes I turn my nose up at some stuff. I just cant get with some things BUT I bypass those threads especially when I havent even tried the product/technique/etc. I dont go in there and call people punks for not trying it or get reved up dishing out personal attacks. I dont call people fraidy cats either. I dont think every shoudl try everything. PJ-ism is a bad habit. And it hardly ever helps.
ITA! I've been seeing this a lot lately. It's weird how personal become about the products they use. The minute someone says it didn't work for them or they don't like it that person takes it so personal like you done said something about their momma, lol.

Yea, this has disturbed me a little. This board used to be very open to disagreement about anything and it seems to be getting a little viscious lately.

Maybe I misunderstand the topic of the thread but people are going to ask questions. Sometimes those questions are going to be repeated and then repeated and then repeated. Such is life. We don't know a person's circumstance, maybe they are at the library and don't have the time to read a million pages on the best technique for flat ironing. Perhaps they are borrowing their friend's computer and wanted to ask a quick question. Whatever the case maybe, a person deserves the right to ask as many questions as they want regardless of the number of prev threads. Finally one of the main reasons I like this board is, you are able to preview a thread before opening it, thereby giving you the option of going and answering the 982,876,344 thread about breakage.

And that's all I have to say about that

^^^^
THAT AIN'T NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH!

Especially where it concerns henna, imo.

I see a lotta 'Henna Horror Stories'...:ohwell:

Now I don't claim infinite knowledge on anything. We're all learning but I know enough not to be throwing anything and everything in my head when I don't know what it is or what it can or what to do if something goes wrong.

That mess can take your hair out if you use the wrong type. ...and you can break if you don't know enough about the different powders to know what they can and can't do to your head....

...all I know is I read that henna thread back and forth.
All 78980097908901 pages of it. LOL

There is no excuse for a henna horror story.... Reading lchf for five minutes will tell you that much.

I agree with this. In the beginning, I didn't even know how to use this site. I really didn't. lol. I asked questions, because that's all I knew.

Well, yes and no....I don't think anyone here is saying that Newbies or vets, for that matter should not ask questions.......

BUT..........................

I had to do the work to find information when I first came to these boards (LCHF and BHM). In addition to that - I tried to contribute information and tips.....You can find swarms of my posts on BHM and LHCF trying to help others and share my experiences..There are lots of members like this.....

SO...................

When someone writes, " I read everything about cold Bacon Grease, and then I put hot bacon grease on my head and now my hair is falling out" - I do not feel sorry for these people.

This forum has an EXCELLENT archive and search feature, in addition to Google. If people are that lazy - they really don't want to know.....:yep:

See, I was with you until the bacon grease:lachen:. But I do get what you mean perhaps I took it the wrong way. I just believe it's hard enough to ask for help anyway, a person shouldn't feel like they are limited to what they can or cannot ask.

My intention in this thread was encourage people to learn what their hair needs first and not to base all of their decisions on what someone else said in regards to a product. Many times, if people would take a minute and learn more about the backstory of a problem or technique, many problems would be avoided. It seems that some people are afraid of certain things only because someone else said it was bad but they haven't taken in account their own personal needs. That is where more reading could benefit us all.

oOOoOOo I just had a hairgasm... several of my hair idols are ALL in this thread

ooops..... 'scuse me.... continue on

yeah I agree... search, bump old topic if necessary... read... yeah, all of that

Sure - I totally understand. It is hard to ask for help sometimes.... I hope that no one does feel limited.... But I also hope people use common sense...

Thanks again Gym!
You are AWESOME!!!!:yep:

I think some people are really taking the OP out of context.

There's nothing wrong with asking questions, and I have no problem answering them. But if some people would take 30 seconds to click page 3 of a thread, read a paragraph of an article, hit search, or hit page 2 of the home page, they'd get their answer without having to wait for people to respond, or filling up the forum first pages with questions.

Maybe I'm just saying this because I couldn't pay right away, so I had no choice but to read, but really, nobodys saying NOBODY can ask questions, I'm just saying that they'd [SOME PEOPLE] actually get their questions answered much faster if they'd read some more, as opposed to starting a whole new thread, and waited for a whole new response.

And unfortunately, I, unlike Gym, don't have a way with making written words seems so unoffensive, and polite, so forgive if I sounded kind of mean.

sometimes i repeat q's... if i'm in a rush like studying or something. I know that when i do this at least one poster will bump an old thread, then i can continue on with my day. Other times, i have questions that could be on an older/covered topic, but feel i have a diff prob/can offer a diff pov. For Instance, I may very well start a thread like... Color Shower w/Dc yay or nay? Has colored showers been discussed? Yes thoroughly, but with condish... maybe not so much lol

The only time questions bother me, is if its something like... How Do you co-wash? or What are protective styles? Ya know the simple stuff.

ITA, and there's nothing wrong with questions like those.

But the other examples you used are exactly what I mean, they've been discussed to death, I guarantee if you did a search on that you'd get pages of threads.:yep:

Even though I have a large number of posts (almost 1900), I still consider myself a newbie. The search feature doesn't always work and I may not be able to find the answer in the stickies. I don't mind asking questions because sometimes I feel like I would like to have a "second opinion". I would rather ask than to end up looking like this:

Okay, I'm wrong for that . Now, if I start a thread about something that's been covered, I would appreciate if someone can post a link to the threads that will answer my question. I don't mind doing that for other members.:look:

Gym, I understand and agree with your point. Many times I have wanted to ask a quick question but decided to wait until I had the time to search for more info(I have a patience problem:look:). I feel like if you have the time then you should read old topics for more information but if for some reason you can't there shouldn't be a penalty. Also the members here are so helpful it's easy to fall into the lazy trap. I hope you didn't take any offense to my response.

I read and then re-read your response and didn't find a hint meaness :spinning:. However I believe, if using the same line of thought, that at some point all threads have been discussed at one time or another.......well maybe not those that mention specfic members but most of the topics, questions, polls etc have already been discussed. So where does that leave us???????

Oh no not at all. I totally understood what you were saying. Sometimes that is neccesary. I didn't want you to think that this thread was about bashing newbies or about telling people what they can and can not post. I have been here for about 3 years now with nearly 12,000 posts so I have answered and posted many questions myself. I understand how fustrating the hair thang can be; I chased my tail so to speak in circles for almost 2 years and don't get me starte on this weird patch of split ends I keep fighting with now  I just want people to not be afraid of something or a technique just because so in so, including myself didn't like it. In the end you have to be willing to absorb all of the haircare basics, figure out your hair, and then go from there. Sometimes I see people that have already written off certain things but only because of someone elses experience with it. Sometimes, the things we write off could be just what we needed in the first place.

Some of the old threads are great for trouble shooting and have alot of hardcore science which I think everyone should read because it can be very helpful. Products are always getting changed or discontinued and someone is always having current problems so I don't think we could ever run out of something to talk about. Sometimes it just might help us all trouble shoot better if we did more reading on some old threads and when from there.

:yep:@the bolded. I totally agree with your post. For me when something "bad" happens to my hair, I chalk it up as a learning experience. Also I have to remind myself that I've already taken a major step by becoming a DIYer so its part of the process.

I feel like if you have the time then you should read old topics for more information but if for some reason you can't there shouldn't be a penalty.

If you don't have the time to read and find the answer for yourself... why not just wait and do it later? I'm not speaking for anybody else, but I know if there is a question that just HAS to be answered right now cuz this person's in a hurry... it don't make a damn bit of difference to me. You're in a hurry, ok. Find answers to your questions later then, when you have the time. If it's redundant about something that's been discussed hundreds of times I just one star the thread and move on. It's okay for people to feel entitled to get their questions answered cuz they paid their 6.50 to post... but people don't have to answer.

And the search function not working isn't really a valid argument anymore, because google will find you exactly what you're looking for in 2 seconds. I wanted to make a thread about OCT/MT shedding, but I knew there was already one with a poll floating around. I put in OCT MT shedding poll in google search and it was the first result. Most of the terms and things we talk about here are such a specialized jargon that it will ALWAYS come up within the first page or two on google.

I had never heard of "co-washing" "protective styles" "colored showers" or "mtg" etc. until I joined this board a few DAYS ago, but....that doesn't mean that I don't know anything about how to take care of my hair. I think that people who have been on here for YEARS should just be a little more patient with newbies/ questions. Honestly, I've already felt discouraged about asking questions.

And yes, I read the search tutorial and have been reading a lot of back posts, but I don't know what many abbreviations are and it can be frustrating.

wow it took a lot in me not to quote like half of the posts in here. y'all are preaching...just like you shouldnt be trying all 4694369736 different types of hair care on LHCF all at once, dont think that everything will work for you. if you think that its something you wanna get in on, do at least a little of the research yourself.

we MUST be secretly talking about OCT/MT...or at least we are in my mind. i already know i type too much because i talk too much, but if your thread says "i just have one question, are most of you applying it once daily or what? where are you getting it? anybody got results? i know it is in the thread but...." i have the right to at least think about giving you the thread link and posting this face :look: especially if you are already in the thread.

but i digress 95% of the time because people are sensitive, and i'm still too new to know if somebody's gonna come trying to take away my posting privileges. i lurked long enough to have to do that sh*t again. lol

I feel that people accuse others of being scared of ingredients/techniques when they don't agree.

I'm not scared of anything, I choose not to use certain products based on what I've learned over years of research and trial an error on my own hair.

I'm no chemist, but I'm no idiot either.

Also... NO ONE knows everything. Live and let live.

I agree, maybe its not fear after all maybe its already knowing what went bad/didnt work before

gurrrl your so silly! :lachen:

I think people can take into consideration other people's experiences if they want , its their personal right and choice to either consider it or discard it
