please educate me why were you putting baking soda in your hair.

Some use it as a clarifier w/ water. Others are using as a semi-relaxer. It loosens the curls or texture of your hair, making it softer, cleaner of course, and easier to comb through.

Everybody has so many different concoctions though.

hmm...um...:look:...interesting. i think the relaxer route would actually be less traumatic but it's good you're pleased with the results.

Here are my results

  • Shedding was cut to about 85%
  • Hair is soft, strong and moisturized
  • My hands glide right thru my hair
  • Airdrying did leave my hair puffy but nice and relaxed looking

Also I left the BSo & Condish in for 3 hours and then I DC for 2 hours.

Thanks for sharing littlegoldlamb!

I'm new here and this is actually my first post. I wanted to know if you use a cheap conditioner with the baking soda then deep condition your hair?

Also, can someone recommend a good deep conditioner I could purchase at a store?
Thanks so much!!

I use White Rain Ocean Mist from the dollar store to mix with my BS and for a deep conditioner I will use something like Nature's Gate jojoba revitalizing conditioner, which is pretty thick or Freeman's Sea Kelp moisturizing, which is very thick and add aloe vera gel, honey and either grapeseed oil or shea butter. I leave the BS mixture on about an hour and the DC on about two hours. I do this about every three weeks.

My hair's natural and I keep my hair in twists a lot. Would it be bad to do the baking soda mix while my hair's in twists? Thanks for the help.

DON'T DO IT! You won't get it all out and will have DRY, DRY, DRY hair! DON'T DO IT!

CHEAP!! Too rich a conditioner could cancel out the Bso alkalinity.

I'm glad it's working so well!!

What was her formula? I was trying it today. How much Baking soda per water or conditioner?

How much did you use the first time?

See my Drugstore fotki for the whole experience, forumla, etc.

thanks for posting this! off to your fotki. I remember when I first went natural this time around, I used baking soda as my shampoo weekly and my hair could not have been better. Now tell me why the heck did I stop.....pjism is all :wallbash::rolleyes:.

Copied and Pasted from my Edited First Post in this Thread:

I don't know why people keep bumping up this one and not my "Baking Soda Bombshell" Thread in which I've posted how to do this safely, my good and bad experience, formula ratios to try, trouble shooting, pros and cons, and baking sodas other uses.

Nevertheless, I suggest reading all of this and more in great detail in my drugstore album.

See my blog for more!

From my mane to yours, happy hair growing!

I tried this on Friday as I thought I would be getting kinky twists on Saturday and I am stunned and amazed at the results. I was shocked that the BS and cheap conditioner smelled like a chemical relaxer. I did feel a little heat under the bag initially but nothing uncomfortable. I left it on for not quite 2 hours then went on with my routine.

I let my hair air dry (remember I thought I was getting twists this weekend) and didn't take it down until Sunday to flat iron. I'm still shocked at how straight my hair is. But it still has body.

This is just what I've been looking for, managability with very few chemicals. Thanks to whoever put this out. I'll definitely be keeping this through my transition and into natural.
