Why did Henna make my hair hard?

Remember too ladies, a water softener makes a huge difference as well. So if the water is hard in your area, you might have to invest in a water filter, not just because of henna but because overall, your hair will respond better to poos, conditioners, treatments, etc, and indeed love you for it. Just a thought.

My comments are in bold caps below:

i respectfully disagree. :) terps can be drying if not followed up with proper deep conditioners.

OP, you said you used nexxus humectress as a deep conditioner. i've found that that isn't the greatest deep conditioner, and that might have something to do with the mineral oil. NEXXUS HUMECTRESS IS THE BEST DEEP MOISTURIZING CONDISH FOR MY HAIR. PERIOD. I'VE BEEN USING FOR OVER 20 YEARS, WAAAY BEFORE LHCF AND IT'S STILL THE GOLD STANDARD FOR ME. BUT THAT'S JUST ME . . .

when I henna, i use at least 1/3 a cup of lemon juice in addition to other things i mix in there... and i've had zero problems with dryness. however, in rinsing out, i use a TON of cheap conditoiner, like tresseme + SAA, or suave humectant. then i'll deep condition with keracare humecto, or another DEEEP conditioner that actually penetrates. I'VE NEVER USED LEMON AND HAVEN'T USED ACV IN OVER 2 YEARS AND I HENNA FOR COLOR (I'M 30% GREY!) WARM WATER + HENNA, WAIT 4.5 HOURS = FANTASTIC COLOR RELEASE. LEAVE ON HAIR AT LEAST 2 HOURS = FANTASTIC COLOR DEPOSIT -- THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED FOR TERPS FOR COLOR RELEASE TO HENNA HAIR. I HAVE USED DIFFERENT KINDS OF HENNA (HESH FROM LOCAL INDIAN STORES -- I KNOW SOME THINK THESE ARE TOO "OLD" BUT MAN, THEY COLOR MY HAIR LIKE DA BOMB! MEHANDI HENNA, FNWL HENNA, HENNA SOOQ, ETC.) AND I NEVER USED TERPS. TERPS ARE NEEDED TO HENNA SKIN FOR LONGER LASTING STAIN, BUT NOT TO COLOR HAIR. BUT AGAIN, THAT IS JUST ME.

i've found that using terps allows for better color deposit, and i've had zero problems. that includes lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and the one time i did it with red wine. TERPS MAY SPEED UP COLOR RELEASE, BUT LETTING IT SIT OVER TIME ACHIEVES THE SAME RESULT, IMO. FOR ME, GREAT COLOR DEPOSIT DEPENDS ON HOW LONG I LEAVE THE PASTE ON, RATHER THAN WHETHER I USE TERPS -- THE LONGER I LEAVE THE PASTE, THE BETTER THE COLOR DEPOSIT

ladies, don't let the terps scare you, but PLEASE find a good deep conditioner, AND have a TON of cheap, slippy conditioner on hand. IT IS WORTH TRYING IT WITH AND WITHOUT TERPS, ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE DRY HAIR TO DISCOVER WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU -- COLOR RELEASE AND COLOR DEPOSIT WILL HAPPEN OVER TIME, SANS TERPS

however... different strokes for different folks.YEP, DEFINITELY . . .

but... if you're hair's still hard after henna-ing, you didn't deep condition properly. bottom line.
