Ok… To all my natural Sista's. Have you changed you wardrobe since going natural? When I go out for a night on the town, at times I wear short skirts, low cut tops ect….. It seems like I have to change so many outfits to match my hair.

My question is does having natural hair make you dress more conservative???? :perplexed

Conservative - not necessarily.

Stylish - Yes.

All I have to say is: Accessories Accessories and more accessories! I use them more now that I am natural because it just sets of the look.

Conservative? Me??? Not a bit. As a matter-a-fact, my natural hair accentuates my sense of style.

Are you feeling like you need to "tone down", for lack of a better word, your style, because you're natural?

I totally agree with this one. I'm much more prone to hook up a hair style with a flower, scarf, some funky earrings, a choker, etc. I wasn't as prone to do so when I was relaxed. I'm not sure why. :-)

I was wondering if that what she was trying to ask.

If anything I think when you are natural you have to step it up! (JUST MY OPINION)

Nope, I still dress/accessorize the way I've always have. To me, my hair alone gives my outfit an extra 'oomph'.

i agree...if anything i feel like i can rock a sundress or strapless dress and my WNG and look fabulous. my self esteem is way up just cause i love the way my hair looks. when it gets longer i will buy more earrings and stuff.

If anything with big hair I feel MORE funky. I want brighter colors, higher hemlines, and lower necklines. People are gonna be looking anyway - best to give them something to look at!

I can't wait till I can rock a BAA in the club. Everybody can worry about sweating their hair out while enjoy myself

Oh, yes! :yep:

I havent really embraced my natural hair. I only have changed my dressing because its the summer and hot. But i would like for it to be longer and out there more. Maybe then I can really love it. And once i learn how to do the beautiful styles that I can do to it.

hi, noob here, but i've been lurking for a while. i'm natural and ita with that. especially sometimes i dont feel i look that cute with my hair. i will put on some big earings, gloss(it fixes everything, lol), and i nice outfit!

I guess yes, i have toned down my outfits. For example I have these hot pink skinny jeans I use to rock w/ my wigs (longer) and now that I rock my natural it doesn't look the same on.

I just "came out of the closet" and I guess I have to adjust to my new style. Don't get me wrong all of my clothes are tasteful and w/ class, it just looks different.

I notice that many naturals go more bohemian "earth mothery" with their look after the BC, but that is soooooooo not me.

Nah, my style of dress was conservative before I went natural and I still dress the same.

I was concerned that I'd look 'off' but I'm so comfortable in my own style that my hair incorporates itself into my look not the other way around.

Why? I think it might be interesting to explore why you feel like that.

My style is funky, period, and the hair accentuates it.

I guess if I felt the need to fade into the background, yeah, I might dress more conservatively - but my hair would also be conservative then.

Going out to the club? My skirts are high, my shirts are low, and my hair is big and free!

I've always liked the unique and different. So I've always been different. Even permed, I wore tie died and short skirts with tank tops. I pretty much dress the same now that I'm natural. I like Indian clothes and all of that good stuff so I think my hair and my clothes have always matched. Does that make sense??? I guess I'm trying to say, I've always been different. I already said that didn't I?:ohwell:

I've always liked funky clothes so no change for me. I actually think my hair is an accessory in and of itself.

My style of dress hasn't changed. Probably because my weight hasn't changed. Still around 210. When i lose weight then I'll wear skirts and dresses and other stuff, but it'll have nothing to do with my natural hair.

ETA: I'm also a conservative dresser. I only ever lighten up during the summer. I can't stand getting unwanted attention by. People hanging out cars and even turned the car around to try and get my attention and when I ignored them. *****! (happened recently) Whole nother thread.

Not natural, but I once was. But, I do find changing clothes a bit more when I went natural. I like different things also, but natural hair sets the clothes off. It seems that conservative clothes go with a more relaxed straight hair, at least for me. I like the 'glamor natural' look. Makeup, earings and accessories, with sexy clothes, and textured(natural or relaxed) or short pixie hair. OMG, that is soo cute!

I went natural over 12 years ago so my style has changed just because I'm 30 and not a teenager. Maybe it's because I've been natural for so long, but I never even think that I could or couldn't wear something because of my hair. And I seriously don't think that if you are natural you have to "step it up" more, as though natural hair is a negative and you have to add more positives to look cute. Now that I've learned how to style, I think my hair is the biggest draw, the most alluring and exciting part of my look. Especially with my struggling fashion :look:, my clothes never top my hair!

I agree with the bolded. It does seem like my hair throws certain outfits off. So, like mentioned above, I accessorize my hair...headbands, scarves and i just bought some flowers. But if im wearing jeans, i'll just rock the fro with no accessories.

yup I chaned my outfits, I dress more funky and wild now.... I wear more earthtone colors and unique earrings to match my wild and funky hair

ITA. If anything natural hair adds more to my outfits.

I agree with this and I'm glad it was stated kindly in this thread, in keeping with LHCF's reknewed atmosphere of sisterhood and all the hormone-sharing that comes with it.

I have ALWAYS loved fashion. My "casual" is most people formal. I wear heels and skirts to lecture. :spinning:

My natural hair HAS caused me to rule out collared shirts unless they are mandarin or nehru-esque in design. I also nixed most button downs that don't have bows, ruffles, or some kind of elegant, frilly cut or detailing to them. Why? Squared shoulders + short fro + button down + pants is too masculine for my uber femm liking. :nono:

Again, MY liking. Put the AK-47s down.

Aside from that MY personal style has worked well with it and it's not particularly bohemian, if it all.

It's frilly/covert-gothic-loli and natural curls work just as well. Many place natural hair far from preppy/frilly but I wouldn't.

I think one should be pulled together and a style well defined regardless of his or her hair's chemical state.:yep:

However, even MORE so when wearing natural hair because, let's face it, our natural hair isn't lauded the world over as the most desirable type to have. :look: It will gain attention...so why not be worth a good old fashioned double take?

My hair: Another excuse to serve up a gorgeous smile and a geisha-glance.:grin::grin:

This is me!
I understand what you're saying though OP. Wearing natural hair does give your whole look a new twist. It would be the same if you were a long natural and then all of sudden went to a bone straight short do or something. It's a totally different look and will give your outfits a different twist.

I did NOT imply that when I stated it. Sorry you took it that way. I am pretty sure other naturals that feel like "stepping" it up don't do it because they think natural hair is bad

I guess it's more about fashion. Natural hair brings out such beauty in a woman (my person opinion) and makes you want to just express yourself...hence bring out your inner fashion sense. It can be an uplifting experience when a woman goes natural and sometimes she discovers herself...or a a new her. A beauty about herself that she never saw before and she wants to show the world. And UNCONSCIOUSLY (most of the time) one starts to notice becoming more fashionable (if they have inner fashion sense already)

It does not apply to everyone. But please do not think that women who feel this way view natural hair as negative. I did not imply that and there is no reason anyone should feel that way...

Hmmm. I am conservative.

"Like a ring in a Sow's ear is a woman who shows no discretion".... I just roll with the biblical motto.
