can anyone help me?

My hair is completely natural. I worry it in braids for a few months and then put a weave in. It seems like every other person that does my hair can get it straight except for me....what the heck and I doing wrong? I use the fantasia IC Gel as a heat protectant. I use a Chi ....maxigilde or anything else and it still dont work on me

Did you pre strech or blow dry the hair before flat ironing?
Did you try the comb chase method?
How big were the sections?
How did you prepare the hair before you flat ironed(poo,DC..)?

have u tried using very small secions only about 1 inch wide and very thin. it may take u forever but i find the thinner the section of hair the straighter it gets. and also be aware of how much product u use. the more i use the less straight i am able to get it.

Ok two questions.

1.) What is your hair type?
2.) What exactly is your technique?

The front is probably 4b? I make small sections ....wash/cond put some rollers in it to strech the hair when it drys or b4 it drys I put heat protectant on it and flat iron

maybe it is the products :/

what kind of tools are you working with? What kind of flat iron? Are you using a hair serum/heat protectant?

For natural hair to get really good results you might wanna blow dry or airdry but use a hair serum I like John Freida or Beyond Straight
and once hair part hair into small sections,
come through and detangle each section well.
I prefer a higher heat setting for natural hair (but that's just me). I would iron each section slowly, so that I don't have to do too many passes with the iron.
Too combat the frizzies and humidity I use hairspray and apply some more hair serum.

My hair is natural and when I flat iron I shampoo and deep condition with Matrix Sleek Look because it's high in silicones. (the only time I use silicones is for straight looks..but for curly days which is most days I'm cone free)

So after my deep condition I blot with towel to get excess moisture out. Then I apply a nickel size amount of Sabino Moisture Block and proceed to blow dry using a hair dryer with a concentrator nozzel on it and a round brush ...that gets my ends straight. ( if my ends are ragged and not evenly trimmed then it doesn't come out right at all :nono: )

After it's dry I use my Sedu flat iron on 380 degrees and flat iron it in small 1 inch wide by 1/2 inch thick sections. ...the results are in my siggy.

Good luck.

How are you flat ironing? Small sections? I have 4b hair and I've flat ironed with and without blow drying and got the same results. I take small sections, like an inch wide and thin then I start at the ends with the Maxiglide and proceed very slowly. Then I take it closer to the roots and slowly move down the length of that section. I detangle each section very well and hold the hair stretched then place the iron close to the ends and start. It takes a while but taking it small makes for maker end results.

CHI
ORS/Giovanni shampoo& conditioner
Fantasia IC Gel-pink bottle
air dry hair in velcro rollers(this gets it VERY streched)

my ends only look jacked up when i do it :perplexed

Why are you using gel as a heat protectant???????????? I've never heard of that:nono:
I gave some tips on pressing in this thread...check it out

I just flatironed my natural hair yesterday and I got great results. Here's what I did(at the gym): HEATOVERLOAD ALERT....This is only the second time I've done this in 17 years of being natural with the first being in March.)

Prepooded with Cholesterol.
Shampooed with Suave Humectant (had to because I had a lot of product from combcoils)
Conditioned with Aphogee 2 min reconstructor
Rinsed then sprayed with Aphogee Leave-In and brushed through with Denman
Sat in sauna to let hair dry somewhat.
Added Fantasia Frizz Buster Silky Smooth Straightening Creme. And blowdried in sections with comb/brush attachments.

I like this last product BUT if you use too much it creates flakes, most of which fall out on your shoulders.

I then flatironed with a Remington Wet to Dry on about 15 adding a bit more of the fantasia product. Afterwards, I ran the blowdryer over with brush attachment with a little EndAll.

Shiny, flat, relaxed look. Then, I left the gym to a thunder storm. :perplexed So, when I got home I ran a hotcomb through it real quick with a bit more product.

Next AM, hair is still straighter than some folks with relaxers shiny bodied, all that. All I got was raves. If I had to pinpoint a product I'd say it was the Aphogee Reconstructor before the blowdrying and the Fantasia Frizzbuster. I think the brush attachment is better on natural hair then the combs. At least on mine.

OMG, THANK GOD Your not using Gel as a Heat Protectant! Maybe you should try a diffrent heat protectant?

I have used the CHI heat protectant as well as FHI Hot Sauce. Remember, when you flat iron, Less is more when it comes to the products you use so if your using a good flat iron (Ceramic FHI, CHI, Sedu) the flat iron puts the moisture back in your hair after you blow dry
(or wet set).

Wash your hair, Add your heat protectant (less is more) while still wet, blow dry (I add a little bit more heat protectant after I blowdry, I prolly dont need to but it makes me feel better :ohwell:) and then flat iron in SMALL sections. Hope that helps. And i'm all NATCHAL, 4A

I couldn't help myself, I flatironed my hair tonight. It took me a total of three hours. These are the best results I received so far. It looks relaxer straight.

I think the trick for me is to have air-dried my hair days before in twists. My hair is stretched and detangled already.

I took each portion of the twist and flatironed. I used the Sabino Moisture Block and my hair looks good. I can't believe it. I must not get in the habit of doing this. I just wanted to trim my ends evenly

I think so. I know less less less is more more more when it comes to that straight, flowing hair for a good flat iron. When you wash your hair, make sure to get it very clean, then follow with a really good DC. This way you don't need much else in terms of moisture. Then, grab one of those moisturizing heat protectants that you mist on- or serum like rabs77 mentioned (I can also vouch for Biosilk). Put the heat protectant on *before* the wet hair dries. Also make sure your hair is detangled really well. Good luck!

I am going to try Redken from now on. This will be my last try b4 I give up.
