Ladies, do long hair run in your family?

My mother never had long hair. My grandmother, at her longest, had APL. I've no clue how long my hair will end up being, but I know I'll get past both of them. ;)

Nobody with hair past APL . . . except me! :giggle: Most women in my family's hair is shoulder length or shorter, my mom included. My sister's hair was midback when she was a kid, but now it's APL.

on my mother's side everyone has long hair. On my father's side i only know of my grandmother and she has had no hair since i've known her. Thankfully i inherited my thick hair from my mother's side. lol

Mom's side beautiful long and thick heads of hair; dad's side --nothing. I take after my dad :ohwell: So it's half and half in my fam, but I didn't get anything from mom. Part of my reason for growing out my hair is that I want to prove to her that my hair can grow too. She is type 3B and she is convinced that type 4 hair can't grow, especially mine. It's never been longer than armpit as a child and certainly nowhere near that as an adult. Anyway ...

Yes sort of. 2 of my Aunts and my Mom have/had long hair (wl, bsl, apl)
My other Aunt has always had short hair.

Most of the women in my family, both sides, keep their hair relatively short. Besides me and my sister, and maybe 2 cousins, I don't think anyone really lets their hair grow long. My other sister's hair is probably the longest its ever been (shoulder length) but she has a lot of damage and bad hair practices to overcome.

My mother's hair is about shoulder length now and I'm sure she'll cut it soon. About 2 years ago she was always cutting it down to about 2 inches, if that.

When my family members go to a salon, it's usually for a hair cut...nothing else.

Yes - on my mom and dad's side. My mother's family has thicker/courser (sp)(4a-c) hair ranging from just below sl to bsl. However as the girls get older and start caring for their own hair - resorting to relaxers it's long but thin, over processed and un-healthy.

My dad's side yes all the women in the family have/had (now some of my older aunts wear their hair very short like Halle Berry cropped) very long hair 3b-3c hair. Grandma included.

On my mothers side. All the women have had, at one time or another, BSL or longer. They choose to wear it a little below their shoulders.
We have alot of Native American genes on my mothers side, so the women and mens hair type runs from 2a/b to bone straight, solid black.

The longest my hair has been was BSL relaxed. I have a combo of both parents, but more of my mother in their.
When I was relaxed the longer my hair got the less it would hold a curl. No longer than an hour at the most. That was with products. So, I'm wondering how my natural hair will do the longer it gets.

Well, it does on my mom's side... they are all Caucasian. :look: I never got to meet any of my relatives on my Dad's side.

I know my hair can grow long, though, cuz it was MBL when I was a little girl, before the dastardly chemicals :wallbash:

I have the longest hair in my family but that is merely by choice and not that others don't have the ability to have long healthy hair.

My paternal grandmother does still have long hair probably APL but she keeps it in rollers most of the time.

i heard i have some waybacks with long hair but i know of none now with hair longer than SL. my cousin had longish (maybe APL?) hair as a child but she began processing it and now she keeps it short intentionally.

Both sides of the family have long hair (APL or longer) except maybe a couple cousins and aunties.

On my mom's side for sure. Growing up my moms hair (3b-3c)was bra strap length and below a few times, but she always liked chopping it Halle Berry style from time to time, but it grow right back within a year or too, and some of my aunts on that side also have long hair. They tell me my great-grandmother had hair so long that she braided it into two braids and let them hang in front of her.

On my dad's my grandmother's hair grew very nicely but she came to this country and got use to the chemicals and now it doesn't grew as much as it use to, plus she's a lot older now. And my aunts on that side have shoulder length but could probably grow longer if taken care of properly.

The reason I decided I could grow my hair out was I'd look at pictures of my mom when she was my age and I'd look at my little kid pictures of when i was 4 and my hair was long. So I know I can do it with the right routine and patients. :timer:

One of my cousins has booty-length natural hair that she wears straight all the time by getting it pressed at a salon regularly. My paternal grandmother had hair a bit past her shoulders. But after my cousin, as far as I can think, I am the longest.

I'd say it's a combo of genetics and proper care. Both sides of my family, men AND women have long hair but there are some w/a teaspoon as well. It's about caring for, and maintaining what you grow.

on my mom's side, they all have long hair just about.

on my dad's side, it's hard to tell. i have some cousins that do have long hair, but the majority don't. it's hard to say if it's genetics b/c i've seen some sketchy hair care from them.

On my mums side yes. my mum said my grandma used to hve long hair when she was young, my aunties all used to have long hair until it broke off coz they didnt know how to take care of it, and my mum had really long hair until she cut it several times, but now its growing again and its at APL. Also on my dads side my mum said my dads sisters used to have quite a lot of hair.

thank you.

same with my family, it's a mixed bag.

Only me and my 2nd cousin, on my mom's side, has long hair (she was BSL/MBL). Everyone else (both mom and dad sides) are SL or shorter.
