Hard hair can only mean its gotten too much protein!

C'mon ladies, I know we all had our issues on this before. and it wasnt pretty! But the truth is this has really bothered me watching you all take so many risks and I am really truly concerned about this!

I am not denying that its working for some, I just feel so iffy about this for ya'll. It has really really bothered me after speaking up and it all going bad to just know all I can do is sit back and watch. I really hope that there doesnt end up being a bunch of downsides paid by many by this either short term or long run

I really dont! :nono:

ETA: who ever would have thought the day would come when people would be using a product and saying the shedding is ok or is a good sign? This has my mind boggled

To the bold, we shed hair every day regardless of what we are applying topically.

The reasons are scientific. The argument/debate really doesn't need to go further than that.

To the OP - If using the MT is something that you'd like to continue doing, try upping your moisture DC's. If it's not, then don't compromise your comfort levels just for a product. :)

:lachen::lachen::lachen: I was trying not to bring yaya into the thread :lachen:

(for real though - the shaving itchies are no joke! I bought some of that "bump be gone" for guys that shave bald and it seems to help :look:)

:lachen:
This is true but yaya being shaved I would think is different when the hair on your head isnt being shaved, it doesnt not usually itch

So its scientific that excessive shedding is good?

I mean Ive never heard that excessive or increased shedding is a scientific indicator for growth. enlighten me

cause everytime I had increased shedding I surely ended up with thinned hair , every time

I have fine thin hair. My hair has been growing like a weed, but breaking like crazy.

I'm not sure I can just pin it on Megatek alone. I was henning and taking amino acids every day for the one inch in one month challenge. I can honestly say I got my inch (if not more), but what's the point if you end up with see thru hair?

I don't think the hair itches b/c it was shaved - I think it itches because it is growing - pushing through the skin and all that.

If MT speeds/increases up your growth cycle/rate, then to me it makes sense that you'd become more aware of the sensation of the hair pushing itself out of each follical because it's happening much faster than normal. I bet that you just aren't aware of it normally b/c it's too small of a sensation ( and going at different rates all over your head)

Here-in lies your problem right there with the split ends. I started co-washing long before I started using Mega Tek and my hair ends started to split from then, so I slowed down to once a week only instead of 3-4 days a week.

I got the following from an article found on braidsbybreslin.com and here is the actual link to it: http://www.braidsbybreslin.com/article/publish/article_147.shtml.

"Don't overdo things - It's not necessary to wash your hair daily. Three to four times a week with a mild shampoo will do. Don't overuse conditioners, as they damage your hair and cause split-ends."

I guess this is one proof that anything done excessively is bad for you in one way or another.

But Aggie couldnt the possibly be true about using too much Keratin for some?

because I cant see daily or overly frequent use of keratin being necessary either

well I dont want to just do a repeat of all this ya'll. I actually have to go! I love ya'll

Please be careful with your lovely heads of hair , God knows no matter how all this went down before, that the truth is it would truly break my heart to see anybody suffer any minor or major set backs with this!

and for the ones its working for Congrats on the growth! I mean that from my heart. At the same time I cant help but to think of it like this , with playing the slot machines you win, most often you keep playing you try to win more, and you often lose it all. This heavy keratin use to me is a gamble. AND I just dont want to see the possibile pain of the loss! It was never about anything else for me!

love yall :bighug:

one sure fire way to find out what the culprit is , is to stop using it! PLEASE!

Taking amino acids internally will not do that (to my knowledge), I cant speak on henna

and to answer you question , there would be no point! none whatsoever

Not all of the time....Hard hair can also mean product buildup.....too many styling products, moisturizers, or conditioners in general

I'm sorry Iris but you misread Kels post. She never indicated that excessive shedding is a scientific fact, she simply said that shedding is. Read carefully before posting assumptions and by the way, thank you for your concern.

I don't know about anyone elses hair, but I know mine. I know that I relaxed about 3-4 weeks ago and I know that it was underprocessed, but I didn't have this much curl on Sunday night when I first applied MT. My hair feels as if I've been on a 10 week strech. Maybe that's because It's been getting wet from the MT everynight. I don't know. What I do know is I use a wet moisturizer everyday twice a day, no extra curl. I know I don't use any heat on my hair what so ever so my hair wasn't straight because of that. So far I haven't seen any bad effect of using this product and I'm not looking for them to validate hair growth. Either it works for me or not. Either way my hair will grow.

OMFG what is the big deal about this product? People are tripping more over MT than they did over MN which is a vaginal cream.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Way to stay positive leona2025:yep:.

well i cant exactly stop it from touching some parts of the hair...i co washed on a regular basis and after washing it still felt stiff.:nono:

Hmmmm.... I was cowashing daily and using MT too. I had to change my regimen. I posted before that I think the MT runoff was too much protein for my hair.

I was also using my MT straight up and now I think I'm gonna dilute my mix to see if it helps.

I've stopped cowashing. Started rollersetting, DC'ing more often, and applying every other day. Jury is still out though....

Well girl it wasnt pe say an assumption, just a mis-read, she is right its a fact our hair sheds , thats true. But when I see increased shedding , just saying its always been a cause for alarm in the past. Or at least something to start to pay attention to seriously

Some people are experiencing painful, tender scalp? If I was, I would probably cease and desist immediately. :nono:

It makes my scalp tender, especially when I use it everyday, but it lasted only a little while. Now I massage it in the night before I wash. I am going to work up from there as I see fit.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

yeah I have to agree with you on that one

I saw a post where someone posted they got headaches, then I saw someone say that MN can dilate the blood vessels and possibly increase blood pressure? she was suggested to stop using it and got mad at that! I did not see anything about adverse affects to MN untill then. and yeah then I thought it was even more crazy to use that stuff, than just the 'thought' of it was

So let me as ask you ladies - Do you pre-poo your hair before washing it? I do and I do it to protect my ends and I've always done this for the same reason even before using MT.

I don't do that Aggie but I haven't gotten protein overload from this product even though I am protein sensitive.

I put a nozzle top on it so I can control application which makes it easier not to over apply the product. I also deep condition at every wash with a moisturizing conditioner. I also rub leave in conditioner on my roots if I feel like I might need the extra moisture.

Ooooh chil' I'm very heavy handed:drunk: and I have not yet mastered the ability to control how much product I use yet:nono:, so pre-poo it will be for me:yep:. Think you want to teach me how:grin:?

All I had to do was buy a color application bottle from the beauty supply store and swap the caps off. Most standard bottles are all the same so it should fit. That solved my problem. I just get a thin line of product everytime

That's what I use too. 1/2 to 2/3 of the bottle is MT and the rest is a mix of glycerine, SAA and grapeseed oil. The next batch I think I will use honeyquat instead of glycerine. The application bottle really helps it last and gets it where it needs to be.
