NATURALLADY,
I don't think you have to be bone straight to use the snap on rollers. Shoot, i see natural heads using anything. Curlformers, magnetic, snap ons, mesh..i think its the technique anyway. Some times i try it on bone straight and i still get frizzy parts from being lazy.
Well what the heck did I do wrong then?!?

I just wont use the magnetic ones. Later after I wear myself out with these Curlformers, I'll try the snap ons and see how they work. Thanks!

Your sets look GREAT!!!

I use the sponge rollers with the silk covers on them to do a dry set. Sometimes I straighten my hair with a flat iron and dry set at night. That get my roots smooth and gives me looser curls in the morning. Or I'll do a wet set for tighter curls and maintain it by putting large sections of hair in sponge rollers (about 8-10) before going to bed. That maintains my curls till the next wash.

I got my hair relaxed a couple days ago and asked for a rollerset. She used the magnetic rollers with the clips just like I do but the way she secured them was very interesting. The first curl she secured the hair at the scalp the usual way. With the second curl instead of at the scalp she secured the rollers at the side, clipping the first roller to the second, then the second to the third, and so forth. Some she secured from both sides. The outcome was just as nice as the traditional way but maybe this will help those who have trouble keeping the rollers tight.

Hey, i'm joining in too. All i did was rollerset my hair when i was first relaxed and my hair retained alot of length. Now i'm back to being relaxed i'm gonna start doing this again.

Has anyone used those bendy rollers (they look like thick sticks of rubber or foam) to do a wet set or do you just use them on dry hair?

Do you think rollersetting every night on dry hair is too much manipulation? Would you use a comb to smooth or just use your fingers?

I may have to try this again. I tried to do this before, but the ones that were clipped to each other instead of to my scalp didn't have that tension to it.

If you are using lacio lacio how are you using it? I just purchased it and I really don't know how everyone is using it.:pullhair:

I just rollerset my hair last night (this is the 1st time I have since joining back in February). Usually my rollersets turn out horrible, even if I go to a stylist. So this time I switched things up. I mixed amla oil with my suave tropical coconut conditioner for my cowash. I used honey and ors hair mayo for my dc (stayed under the dryer for about 30 minutes). Then I used a little (like quarter-sized) amount of Giovanni direct leave-in, sealed it with a little coconut oil, then sprayed with hawaiin silky moisturizer :lick:(instead of setting or wrapping lotion). This is by far the softest (and if I'm saying this about my hair, something is WRONG!!!) and slkiest my sets have EVER been. I can't wait to comb through it today!!

I put some pics up in my fotki...http://public.fotki.com/missmarq3/

If you can afford the $20, macheriamour's DVD is well worth it. :yep: She really takes you step by step, I mean from washing in the shower, to the sawran wrap treatment. She shows you when she rolls down and up, she shows you how to place the clips on the roller so they stay tight, and her rollering method will keep your hair straight. She goes over the effect of product usage on the set, etc. She starts with the parting and rollersets her entire head for you to watch, no skipping ahead in the video. So, if you can afford it, it is a wonderful guide on how to get gorgeous results airdryed or not. I sound like an infomercial, lol.

I recently saw this in Sally's Beauty Supply hawaiian silky moisturizer it looks promising. Do you think this contributed to your great rollerset mmpolk01? Also is this the one your talking about?

I agree with this. I am just mad that I didn't get it sooner.
Also, it's now on Amazon.com. You can download it right to your computer and watch it right then and there. I love it. I can refer back to it any time I want.

I tried this a few years ago. I didn't really like it too much, but some women swear by it.

Hi, don't know if anyone could help me this but, I tried my first rollerset today and...:ohwell: oh boy.
The front of my hair dried rock hard/stiff/crunchy/brittle...just the front part. The middle and back of my hair was soft.
Any ideas ladies?

What did you put on your hair?

ORS Wrap/Set Lotion, Silken seal and leave in conditioner by Keracare
My hair was soaking wet by the way.

Yeah, I thought it could be the setting lotion. I'll try rollersetting without it next time. Thanx ladies (StillALady/Tracee)

Hey rollersetting divas.

It's been a while since I did a rollerset but I've started again and plan on keeping it up till my next retouch. I'm now six wks post and I've fallen in love with silk elements. Their conditioners makes it so easy to comb through my ng and I set my hair in no time.

The only rollerset that didn't come out good was the one that I did with their foam wrap, I didn't use a leave in or anything that time. I was trying to go for bouncy curls so I didn't want to overload on the products. It was a mess, it didn't detangle my hair and I broke off some hair trying to comb through it.

The next rollerset I used the leave in, the foam again, and the serum, and it came out beautiful. Also after I set I spray their heat protectant on my hair as the last step. It has an oily consistency so it smooths the hair and provides shine. It comes out nice whether I heat dry or air dry.

LOVE Rollersetting. I get better and better every week. People at work keep askin me if i got my hair done and i keep telling them NO! I did it myself.

Condition of my hair has really improved since rollersetting for 6 months straight.

Something i've learned while rollersetting lately is to try NOT to drain all the water out of my hair.

The other day i just squeezed my ends a little and left my hair as wet as i could take it without it dripping and making a mess.

This way, i did NOT have to use my rollersetting spray and detangling and parting was so much easier when hair is sopping wet w/ leave-in. I can rollerset much faster!

Now that I have learned how to rollerset I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!!!!!!

I rollerset each and every week. Im trying to perfect it.

ITA!!! I love love love rollersetting! It's become a new addiction! So much so that I went and ordered flexi rods, soft mesh rollers, hard mesh rollers, perm rods. I was rollersetting 2x a week but I had to stop because all my efforts were wasted with this humid weather! Plus I can't stand the way my hair feels on the back of my neck when it's hot!

I would love to rollerset my hair but I just can't seem to get the roller placement right. When I am doing the mohawk section, I never seem to get the rollers in a straight row, directly one behind the other. Especially towards the crown area there is always a huge gap between the rollers. I guess what I'm asking is how do I fix that?

Any and every bit of advice will be greatly appreciated.

I've been rollersetting twice a week with great success! I was concern about the manipulation at first, however since the only time I comb thru my hair is on wash day's I don't feel like Im doing too much.

After I put my leave in conditioners in the first thing I do is part my mohawk section. Imagine that your hair was parted striaght down the middle. Go about one inch to left of that imaginary line and make a real part all the down your head, from from to back. Now comb or pin the hair to the left of that part out of the way. Now do the same on the right and you should have your mohawk section seperated from the rest of your hair. From their you should be able to just rollerset the mohawk. It takes some practice to get those parts straight. I also sometimes end up with a big gap towards the back of my hair. What I try to do is make smaller parts in that area. It's hard to see back there so it's difficult to make the parts even. HTH.
