Hi ladies..

i'm at a crossroads about what to do for my ends. They're not excessively raggedy but i can't tell if its the length catching up,damage, or just regular ol splits. I'm close to one of my goals (APL), and i'm not sure if i should trim now ( or at all), or wait until its a little past my goal. I'd appreciate any and all comments, advice anything really lol.
heres my pic:

sorry its hugemongus:blush:

I'd def get a little trim. Looks like regular ol' split ends catching up to you. The rest of your hair looks quite healthy might I add :yep:

You have to look at hair strands to see split ends. I can not tell by looking at picture. I would suggest you have it trimmed once goal is reached providing hair is not splitting up hair shaft.

I'd get a trim... as painful as it seems when you're so close to your goal, it will look better and you may be happier in the long run. :yep:

ETA: I don't know if you have split ends or not.

I'm on the fence. Do you know what split ends look like?

If you don't mind different lengths and you don't wear your hair down, I'd say hold on unless they're split.

I'd say hold on for a lil' while longer, protect the ends and then straighten or stayle as you wish...

ITA, if you wear your hair out, go ahead and get a trim. But if you usually wear protective styles, then it doesn't matter. You might as well wait until you reach your goal.

i think i know what splits look like... i think. I don't wear my hair down at all, i'd say 90% of the time my hair is up. I think i just might bite the bullet and take 1/4 - 1/2 in off. More comments/advice plz!

thanks for the compliment ayanharr

I'll have to agree with her. If you wear you hair in a bun or up 99% of the time basically not wearing it down then I wouldn't worry about a trim. BUT if you like to feel thickness and see evenness within your hair then I'll say trim it.

What she said!! :yep:

You need to take a really long, hard good look at your ends in some really good lighting and EXAMINE them to see if the ends are actually split. And if there are just a few splits, you could just dust them off.

FYI, also...please don't make the very COMMON mistake of dusting or trimming hair that's just DRY, either. Dry and/or hair that hasn't been fully straightened can give a "raggedy" appearance. Dry hair just needs moisture most of the time IMO...

Examine your ends in some lighting (like a lamp...or in front of your computer screen :look:). It'll be easier to see lightening of strands and/or split/splitting ends.

From the pic, I would still get a mild trim 1/4-1/2"...in the end you will retain any new length better. Sistaslick wrote an article on Associated Content where she says that having a more uniform length resists mechanical breakage versus each strand fending for itself...

Ok, I found it:

I agree too!

*oops* thats with the advice that if you wear your hair out , get a trim, if not leave them

forgot to quote!

I would say trim if you do in fact have split ends because depending on how bad they are, they may continue to do damage, split ends are more inclined to get kinked and tangle up and cause more split ends from the friction.

I was about to write a message, when I realized I'm just agreeing with everyone else. By the way, it looks like some splits to me, but who knows with that camera and lighting. Best bet is to examine them. If they're split why not get rid of them? Length will come.

I would say DC a lot and trying putting coconut oil on them and bunning your hair for a while and maybe try and do really good DC with heat 2 X a week and then see how they look and if they still look bad then get the cut but I think you might could get away with really good DC and putting them up in a bun to hide them until they repair

Thanks for the responses. I've finally come to a concrete decision. I'll have a 1/2in trimmed on wednesday. Even if all the hair isn't split... i'll live lol.
Thanks artemis for the article! I was trying to search similar thinking of an older chicoro thread. thanks again

Tanisha77/kat25... it does look a lil dry. It felt normal, but more moisturizer can't hurt. I've been dying to try some coconut oil, but i'm allergic to coconuts so i've been hesitant.

I appreciate the advice ladies, thanks!
