HAIR EMERGENCY (LHCF) 911!!!

I have recently joined, but have been lurking for awhile. So I am by no means a advanced member. This is why I am asking for everyones help. My hair is coming out in the top/middle part of my head. This has occured before, matter of fact just last year. In my siggie in the top set of pics my hair was recovering from it at that time. I have come a long way w/ it. I am currently wearing a wig, taking my daily hair vitamins, and deep conditioning weekly sometimes twice a week. I moisturize twice a day. The rest of my head is fine...its short but its still making progress. I am so scared I am going to have a relapse of what happened a year ago.

Here is a list of what I thought might be the issue:

I was taking Hydroxycut (and was a year ago when this happened, but now have stopped)

I am wearing a wig (as mentioned above, and I thought maybe I'm suffocating my scalp)

Oh and have quite a bit of stress in my life, but I tell myself everyday not to stress, and I didn't think I was.....ok well maybe I do.

So my plea is HELP!! Has anyone experienced this, and if so what can u suggest I do? I am also doing scalp massages, and rarely use heat. I didn't think heat was the cause of it since this its an isolated area. The last time this happened, I ended up going bald all over, so short I had no choice but to wear a wig. And it was really tender, although its not at all tender this time but still thinning badly. It kinda runs from the center to the left side about the size of 2 dollar coins together....sorry only thing i could think of to best describe it. Please HELP!!!!!erplexed

WELCOME,

It seems like a combination of all the causes you listed. Does your hair itch where it is coming out? If so, I would suggest a scalp treatment with sulfur or a cleansing/stimulating essential oil (rosemary, peppermint etc.) to regulate your scalp.

Don't know what to say. But I was thinking the exact same thing. Because that area is a stress spot.

Stress has a way of wreaking havoc on your body and your hair...

I prescribe this for everything, but mixing up some MN will kill anything in your hair that may be causing the breakage/balding.

Now stress is a factor that really only you can deal with and no growth aids, treatments or anything else will really combat that.

But if stress is inevitable right now, please make sure your diet and rest are as on point as possible so that you can minimize any permanent damage.

Hang in there girl. Don't obsess (and stress even more) over your hair...it sounds like there are other things that are commanding your attention. Just do the best you can (keep it moisturized and DC when you can) and your hair will do ok while you deal with other things...

I'm new myself and haven't had this experience at all. But I wanted to tell you to hand in there. I seriously think it could be due to alot of stress that you're suffering from. You may think you're telling yourself to calm down, but you can very well be doing the opposite. Maybe, you could take some you time and just try to meditate to get your body in balance if the stress ever gets extreme.

Yes I am relaxed, and as much as I hate to admit it, cause I don't want stress, but this may be it.

I just need something to remedy it. I am also using jojoba, coconut oil, w/ essential oils rosemary & peppermint. I am trying to hard to catch this before it gets out of hand. I would spend endless hours in the mirror and cry. WHY!!!!! Ok I am stressing about this now. Oooohsaaaaa (counting to 10). I joke here just to keep from losing it.

Well I wash w/ Aveda DR Shampoo & Conditioner, and once a week use the intensive Reconstructor. I use Giavonni Leave-In conditioner, and seal w/ coconut oil.

My diet has went by the wayside, but I really don't attribute it to that, because even when I was at my fittest, which I used to be a gym guru, I still had this problem....hence the Hydroxycut or anyother fat burner. But you know even when I was younger it would come out in this area but not to this degree. I just don't know.

Oh and the vitamins I take are

Omega 369
Coconut Oil
B Complex

I DEFINITELY STOPPED TAKING THE HYDROXYCUT! Just because it happened before when I was taking them.

I certainly am very sorry for your dilemma but to really give everyone an idea of what the cause could be please describe what you do to your hair.

What do you do to prepare your hair to wear the wig? What type of wig is it?
How old is the wig?
Are you taking breaks to let your scalp air out?
What was the scalp condition you had before, and were you wearing wigs then?

Have you tried not wearing a wig and maybe do twist, bantu knots and other styles to see if it is actually the synthetic hair from the wig, or other parts of the wig that is not working for you?

One thing that is kind of getting my wheels turning is that first you have a wig, which means that your hair is holding in heat. Maybe with you adding moisturize 2 times a day, and with your hair being relaxed, that specific area becoming weak and coming out when the wig is removed taking hair with it a little at a time till there is none there, specifically if you have been itching and scratching in those areas where the hair is lost, too much moisture can reak havoc on relaxed hair. When was your last protein treatment?

I am no specialist but just offering something you can check into until you find out what the real cause is.

My silly self posted this twice....as i said 'NEWBIE' ..LOL

When I put the wig on, I just use a silk cap on my hair after I have moisturized it w/ Organic Olive Oil Growth lotion, and sealed it w/ Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. My scalp is not broken or irritated in any way. The last relaxer I had done at the salon was a few months ago in March.

I haven't had this wig very long, maybe a month, and I've washed it a few times since I had it.

As for before I wore micro braids and still had this issue. Only then my scalp was tender to touch, and would bleed sometimes when she pulled to put the hair in. I don't blame her at all, it was already soar and since I was losing hair I didn't care how bad it hurt or about it bleeding I just wanted to mask the problem. At that time I knew nothing about hair care.

I'm so sorry about your isolated breakage. I have suffered from this esp. at my crown and the problem would slowly spread in a vertical line to my nape. It wasn't until I gained knowledge regarding moisture and protein that the problem ceased.

Very important question, what DC moisturizing product are you using? I didn't see one mentioned. The Aveda is protein based and you def need a moisturizing conditioner to gain balance.

The stress took a toll on my health - hair included. Once I quit, all of that went away. I'm not telling you to quit your job or anything drastic - but if there is any way to eliminate that stress (long term), do it.

I dont know anything about wigs or diet pills so I can't help you there. If your hair grew back before, it can grow back again - I do hope you can stop the breakage/shedding. I hope this helps you in some way.

When you guys come up under heavy levels of stress make sure your getting a balanced amount of the Stress Vitamins, B complex! and that your taking a good vitamin regimen as well!

oh my goodness, scalp soreness and bleeding? I didnt read this untill now, have you had your scalp checked? is it still doing that?

just make sure you eat a lot of green in your daily diet, try not to stress as much think about the good things in your life not the bad, things can and will get better
you might have to lay off a vitamin or two
there are some god and bad vitamins if you eat right you really wont have to take as much
your hair shoud be sprouting in no time

This is making sense to me. Because last time I was giving myself aphogee treatments and using Nioxin. And my hair was so hard, I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT HAIRCARE, so I didn't follow up w/ any moisturizing conditioner to bring back balance. And in between that I was using UBH deep conditioner, so maybe my hair was getting too much protein and not enough moisture. Well the exception of this time is I am learning and practicing what I have learnt, which is balance of the two. The Conditoner I use is Aveda Damage Remedy both restructuring conditioner & Intensive Restructuring Treatment, which I recently started using because I was experiencing this breakage. The clerk at the Aveda store told me that it has a good protein it called Quinoa, supposedly it won't allow the hair to over protein. But anyways in between this I use a Jojoba moisturizing conditioner by Millscreek from the health store.

I know I am phishing for answers so I can catch this head on. Who knows maybe its just not in my genes to have healthy hair. I've always had short hair, I will have to allow time to tell I guess w/ good practices.

It does sweetie. Its all relative at this point. I KNOW THEM FOLKS AT MY JOB GET ON MY NERVES. But in no way should I be letting it affect me this way. Plus I have 4 children, 2 teens and 2 about to be teens. My mom recently moved w/ me and my family of 6, her and and her 5 dogs and my sister.....um did I say I was stressed. I don't want to be....uuuugh and I still hope I can do something to stop this in its track.

I learned that diet pills do cause stress on the body, so I at least eliminated that.

Thats another thing that I thought causing this to be a sensative area, is I used to do the same thing as you. I would wear a phony pony at the top and the combs used to give me headaches and cause my scalp to be sensative. BUT that was a very very long time ago, I'm talking about 8-10 years ago. So I wonder if I have permanently damaged that area, the hesitation I have to that is, my has grown back since then, and I am not putting any external pressure or stress on that area. I guess maybe years ago when I did that it just still affects me.

Another poster mentioned the thinning would start at the center and then make a vertical line along the same path to the back of her head. This too has happened, not this time because I am doing everything I can to stop this. But my fear is it "MIGHT". That is why I am asking for advice, tips, or suggestions.

Anyone can feel free to PM me. I will get some vitamin E, I will try anything at this point. Although surely vitamin E can't hurt.
