Yeah:rolleyes:......so bad, in fact that you left some pretty harsh words on one of her videos??????

I'm really not trying to start any trouble, but we all can clearly see that these are young girls; they don't know any better.
In fact, there was a time when a lot of us here on this board didn't know any better and had some pretty bad hair practices.
Cut these poor girls a break, please!

Yeah, this 'Jacenta' girl is phucking up poor 'Sharmeta' girl's hair but, Damn! did you really have to be so mean about it?:lachen:

A tactful message or a simple www.longhaircareforum.com link would have gotten the message across ; I'm pretty certain that she's been directed to this site previously anyway, because I've seen some of her earlier videos before.

:yep:Let's play nice....

:lachen:Okay I"m wrong...lol..That was out of love:rolleyes: ...Really!!! Darn I was piss like..WHY WOULD U PUT THAT IN HER HAIR REALLY???...I mean if she was my sister and i would have..."sis this ain't gonna work" or "let find a better way then putting more stress on the hair"...lol..No its fine lol..:lachen:

Geesh! I didnt see that! :nono:

Here we go again! *sigh*

This child has probably suffered all her life with ill comments about her edges and now the beautiful ladies join in and and jump on a child again without gathering full information first!

SMH!

all these hair gurus! I just want to say I am thankful someone did reach out and help this child and her edges are filling in!

Agreed.
Sometimes in the beginning of our healthy hair journey, it's hard not to be riding the Healthy Hair High Horse, you know?
Sometimes, I have to check myself on my own thoughts when I'm out and about and see a messed up weave or missing edges and etc.
I currently and constantly work on having more compassion for these ladies who just don't know any better.

Yeah its a high horse, because traction and chemical alopecia is actually very common with some of our 'common' hair practices and its devastating.

I understand how from the first video she did with the weave, that it looked like the weave was the culprit , but the video posted HERE they were actually beginning to address the issue the best they knew

Yes. She is doing alot better. The edges are growing in. I hope that she continues healthier hair practices after her edges fully grows in. I didn't know you could leave comments under videos. But I see that some people are trying to steer her in the right direction.

OH MY GOD!:nono: I remember these girls in older videos. The one in the chair had a weave put in by the one speaking. At that point, she had a small bald spot....now she just doesn't have a hair line anymore! Why is she letting this girl do her hair?! She's just Jacenta's experiment.

It's her sister!
Yeah, I've see this girls videos before. The girl will be fine. Her follicles just need time to recover from the hair trauma, so the progress may be slow in the beginning, but should pick up with time.
Unfortunately, I am going through this myself at the back of my hair, just above the nape :nono:.
Traction alopecia... Mine was caused by relaxing and then having a sew-in installed. It was obviously installed too tightly and I only had it in for two weeks. My relaxed hair was too weak to take the tension of the braid and thread! So all you can do is try and rectify the problem.
It's not the end of the world... people have to go through worse in their lives. It's growing back nicely anyway!
I wish her all the best and I wish SOME people would stop being so ignorant about the issue :look:.
:peace:

we all used grease! *some still do with no negative result*

she said later that she uses no grease now

ya'll gotta watch the rest of the videos

her hair follicles did do better and she is blessed that it did! Because for some with traction or chemical alopecia the follicles are dead and they dont come back

Irresistible, I read you and admire your compassion....but it's just my humble opinion that the petroleum by product that we in the black community deemed the end all be all to resolve our scalp woes and styling issues is actually more often times the culprit. That is, its use along with infrequent washing of the scalp, will most likely lend to the breeding ground for future scalp woes and hair issues. JMO

I think each individual has a right to do what's "works" for them, but when it's obvious that it's not working any longer, then changes need to be made. Sometimes, it's good to question those staunch "have to's" and "must do's" from our cultural past and present. I have nothing against folk who wish to relax and/or wear wigs, weaves and/or extension...but I do know that I had to develop respect for two things, 1. my scalp and 2. my nappy hair, before asking it to take or hold anything else for me. This way, you're ALWAYS monitoring what's going on up top. If you come across thinning hair, then your rooted hair should always take presidence over any attached hair.

My hair may not be the longest, it's at about arm pit or around by preference, but my scalp is free and clear and there are REASONS why. We have too much misinformation when it comes to the care and maintenance of afro-textured hair, no matter what state you choose to wear it. Again just my personal galloping high horsed opinion. :)

all I'm saying is we all been there done that right?

There are still so many that dont think its bad, this child said she is in high school and even said she lives in the hood , cause people were callin her ghetto! I think its crazy to come down so hard on them ABOUT everything without gathering all the information, I found it sad that this child had to explain where she lived due to attacks, and she explained her age and her sister's hair problems......really its sad, not something to talk about behind their backs so to speak , which to me is what doing a post like this and making comments on this child's hairline and hair practices is really like. talking behind their backs

hell there are still people using Sulphur 8 around here for growth, and putting MN on their heads, is that proven so healthy? and I use Motions which has mineral oil , really for some it really doesnt create problems and it aint that serious. This child certainly didnt lose her edges because of grease!

There are things much worse being put on scalps around here other than grease

is a relaxer better?

come on now!

how can anyone here pat other women that messed up their hair on their shoulders and give them supoort then turn around and tear this child to peices? hell there were just threads on weaves recently and growth.....its my opinion they were just doing the best they knew, thats all!

I bet a relaxer could cause chemical alopecia faster than some grease and would hurt her hairline more so too, thats what someone should have asked, if we wanna get down to the nitty gritty around here, and be so concerned? :look: I hope they werent relaxing on top of that, I would worry more about that than some grease, and what would yall do to protect that area if she were to put a relaxer on it, PUT ON SOME GREASE right?

Grease is the least of her worries IMO, besides, even this is pointless because I did take the time to watch all the videos and she said she aint using the grease no more!

The only thing that gets to me about threads like this is everybody is posting on here instead of taking the time to find out all of the information , and EVERYBODY is talking about it here, but not talking to them or HELPING THEM!

To me, its like the Amen corner all getting together!

If these girls are allowed to come up under such scrutiny than so should every person here! its hypocritical! If you saw someone with long hair wearing grease (not you per say) but many of ya'll, would be out buying that grease!

I AINT FOOLED
cause hell Ive done it too

NAY *COUGH* LIV *COUGH*

but I digress and bow to the righteous around here!

maybe some of you can answer this

if this was your child what would you suggest she do, to deal with her hair and receding edges and still be socially accepted and comfortable in school with other kids

what would ya'll do?

Cause she has been put down for the weaves, which is a quick easy way for her to cover them and not be embarrased, someone said wear a wig, she is a kid in school, someone on the video said no braids , what was it that she was supposed to do to deal with this situation appropriate for her age? and I dont know if someone that doesnt have kids can answer this for sure or not, because it takes knowing what that child must go through HELL with other kids about her edges already on a reg basis, to have the heart to be sitting here feeling how fair is this?

I mean if this were your child what would you do?

I mean they already started working on growing back the edges......so I guess thats where I AM LOST

OMG! I wore braids and twists for months on top of months and NEVER lost my hairline. For one thing I don't pull them back into pony tails EVER. I also wear stretchy bands in the latter half so no extra tension is pulling from dangling twists or braids. There's a method to everything. Poor girl!

sorry if i'm late:sad:...wow...how do u get to a point where u have clearly bald spots:blush:

Well her biggest mistake is letting her sister do her hair. Obviously neither of them know much about hair care. I don't see it getting better anytime soon.

It had to be created by tension or chemicals or both

They said it started at age 5, with how bad it is now, I believe that probably is the case, and it was probably braids rather than chemicals.....unless they relaxed her hair that early

I think some people are more prone to this as well

because yeah just braids alone wouldnt do it , I dont think?

must have been how they cared for the braids/her hair/edges on a consistent bases or from constant tension or both

I agree with you. I wore braids for 6 years and don't have that damage to my hair. In fact braids are the reason my hair is long now. Probably because I'm uber gentle with my hair. I think it's a lot of manipulation, stress on the hair, she's probably relaxing every 4 weeks, and all that weaving can't be good. Just a bad regimen all around. She also said they're redoing the braids every 3 weeks and I'm sure she's doing them super tight. Would love to share some basic knowledge with her but she was cursing even the nice constructive criticism.

I like your siggy pic.

I think she was overwhelmed by the bad

Because she did take advice , I seriously think when they posted the 'cover the bald' spots weave video , they really didnt even take the edges into consideration at all, I think they had just accepted it and lived with it, I think it was all the comments that got her to do something about it, so it seems to me , the order of how things went down

Then she did take advice and ditch the grease and got MTG at someone's suggestion

I think she is open to suggestions

i sent her a personal message: so hopefully it will help:

I told her to join LHCF : GAL : or BHM and just ask cause many women been down the same road and recovered from bald spots. Macherieamour is a great example. She transformed her hair and her little sis can do the same

Yes, I agree, I saw the one video and said OMG! and based my comments on that one video. I really had no interest in going past the one and No, I didn't offer help to them. I do want to "Thank You" for helping me see that I was indeed harsh and only looked at the video as comedy and didn't see the humanity behind it. We all risk coming under scrutiny when you place a video on a public domain or even post on a message board. Let me make a clarification on grease, the use of it less frequent scalp/hair cleansing can be a culprit. True, relaxers, weaves, and a lot of other mis-use of products can lend to the woes you see on some folks heads.

Yes, there are folks wearing Sulfur 8 and other smelly substances on their heads for relief of some issue or growth expectancy. Yes, grease is used as a buffer for a relaxer, but its washed off in the neutralizing process.

There are all kinds of oils marketed to make your hair grow, whether they do or not, I don't know. And actually there are individuals with loads of grease or oil in their hair and its waist length and they may not be my particular hairoines, but something's working out for them with that regimen. My point is this, IF there is an issue, if you're not seeking medical assistance, then clear the scalp first. Keep the oils light and get a good regimen of cleansing and keep stress off the strands before puttin fitty million concoctions on it. JMO.

Again, thanks for calling me on my lack of compassion, I certainly admire yours. :)

I HEAR YOU GIRL! Thank you for calmly explaining yourself after today its very much appreciated, not that you had to -no- I am really saying thank you! and your right they should have got medical treatment , that been the best thing said here-as of yet-or been doing something about it long before it was this bad-i just really think they didnt know it could/should be different. Its a blessing she put that video out in disguise=so that she felt guilt or whatever it was-about covering it up with a weave and then realized her edges are in a sad state and that was not going to help them only make it worse.

People need to stop with those rude comments. That girl is doing the best she can to help her sister out. A n*gga cant win for losing

 thats kinda how I feel , I think our edges are more fragile and prone to this and can be very common, while I think some are more prone than others, its mostly amongst us that this happens to this degree, while we are doing all thats we think is right it can turn out so wrong

I saw the comments too.....thats why I asked what is that people think she should do, no weave, no braids, wear a wig to high school? thats trauma for a child too!

plus they are already working on and showing her edges are growing back already

I think she made a very valid point in her video addressing people

They DID a video , openly, they have kept doing them, they didnt have to ,just to get these types of reactions, they are sharing the process, not hiding like many would do, but getting attacked by people with no videos. She is young but she is right about that!
