alright, i've been peeking in on this site, other sites, people's Fotkis... and finally decided to give Ayurveda a try.

i'm thinking of making tea rinses and using those, but i'm curious as to how often i should do this... maybe twice a week? i know you're not *supposed* to comb your hair between washes, so i might go back to putting my hair in a few large plaits and wearing a phony pony (less manipulation, less time spent detangling).

TIA! ;)

Yep  !
I can see you've been doing your research.
Twice a week is good (this is what I do) and I only comb on wash days.
I plait my hair up and wear a wig until the next wash day and so on.
Just make sure you deep condition after every wash.
Good luck with your regimen; I'm getting good results with it and hopefully you will too!

Me too. I've been stalking stinastina.ecrater.com everyday and need to go ahead and make my purchases. I won't really need them until September after I take my braids out, but the shampoo bars and oils will come in handy!

I too recently started using Ayurvedic oils and powders. I'm using the oils everyday, while wearing braids...Alma, Shikakai, Vatika etc. You don't have to wait till u take the braids out :nono:.

OP: i don't mean to discourage you or hijack your thread, but..

I've tried the tea rinses and wanted to know what benefits was I suppose to get out of it? :look: They were nothing special. Serious question.

^^^i didn't wanna deal with the paste and trying to get that stuff out of my hair... so instead i'm planning to put the powders in my coffee maker and make a tea. i am planning to get alma and shikaki (hope i spelled those right) for strengthening and conditioning... still deciding on what oil to get, open to suggestions. :look:

did you buy pre-made tea rinses or you made them yourself? after shampooing/conditioning i used to do a final rinse with green tea for a while and liked how it made my hair and scalp feel. i stopped cuz i was going thru a lot of tea... i put it in my son's bathwater too (he has sensitive skin like me) and in this case i let him come first instead of my hair. (darn kids   )

I made my own teas from the amla and shikakai powders. I'd brew them and then strained them through pantyhose type of material (if that makes sense). I guess I did it the long way. Anyhow, they were ok for conditioning and strengthening purposes, but nothing a cheapie conditioner or Aphogee couldn't do. I guess it's ideal if you want to use all natural products with the same benefits as commerical products :yep: I just hated that I couldn't comb my hair. ugh! it was so much breakage :(

ETA: Amla oil was nice! Added a nice shine to my hair and I still use the coconut oil that I got from the indian store :yep:

^^^i see... interesting... :look:

i will definitely keep this in mind. yep after that coconut oil thread i HAVE to get that, i think i will try the alma oil too. :yep:

I made my own tea rinses and pre-pooed with Amla oil faithfully/weekly until I realized maaaaan...this is too much work for no REAL difference at all. My reaction to it it's just whatevah...Amla oil I like b/c it made my hair color darker/richer like it did DLewis'.

Also I'd get the Bhringraj powder with your Amla and Shikakai. Just make sure you oil your hair really well before you apply the teas.

Candy C convinced me to try it after viewing her growth from using ayurvedic powders really convinced me to try it out!

I tell ya, the more I learn the more I KISS.

Off that bandwagon....

yeah I try to stay with KISS, but that alma oil sounds interesting.....made your hair darker huh? like permanently or just while using the oil? does alma oil stink?

People around me don't like the smell of amla oil but that's very subjective. Me, if it's good for my hair, I don't care what it smells like. Just smell it before you buy it. Regarding the dye, I'm not sure if it's permanent or not but if I stop using Amla oil for some time, my hair doesn't look as dark to me. PM DLewis about that....

its ok I will look into other things for that

thank you for the 411

The first time I tried using Ayurvedic powders, I couldn't get all the grit out of my hair (even after conditioning and rinsing forever) and only caused breakage :nono:, so I strain the mixtures now.
These powders are ideal because I'm trying to use only natural products. I have got good growth, my hair is a lot shinier and stronger than it was in April and my breakage has decreased considerably.
