just wondering if any of you have tried this before. a friend of mine says she does it and she has some lovely, thick hair. so i wanted to know what is it supposed to do for your hair? and if i were to try it, should i rinse my dry hair with it then wash? or...?

TIA! :yep:

Beer's natural ingredients tighten the cuticle of the hair shaft and give hair a beautiful shine.

Once a week use a can of flat beer after shampooing. Choose a beer that does not have a strong odor. Shampoo and rinse hair as usual. Pour the flat warm beer on your hair and work it through. Rinse with lukewarm, not hot, water

The bolded is very important, I did that once but the strong odor almost killed me. Neither my DH and I are beer drinkers btw, so you can imagine the impact on us. I felt drunk all the day long and washed the morning after, we couldn't stand it anymore. But the result was great, my hair was definetely thicker.

Wow, that is good to know.

What beer's does not have strong odors? I am not a beer (or alcohol) drinker at all, so I wouldn't know.

TIA

I don't drink beer, but I've heard about this and would have probably tried it already if it wasn't for the smell.
I HATE the small of beer :nono: ...with avengeance!

ChocolateDiva already gave the answer i was gonna give :yep:

but um... i'm a bit of a lush, i just can't justify putting alcohol in my hair when i could be drinking it and feeling warm and fuzzy

you you by the hops you don't need beer... hate the way beer, wine, and champagne taste but all u needs is the hops.

there are so many different kinds of hops. :drunk: and i don't drink, so is there a brand you recommend?

I would love to try this - maybe after the 4tho of july.... I hear great things - I think the cheapo beer would be best. you also want it be FLAT...

My sisters friends cousin washes her hair with beer. She is Natural. Her hair Is beyond waistlength. i dont know what her hair type is but everybody says its "nappy".???? I bet her hair is beautiful :yep:

:lachen:ITA that's a waste of good akahawl :alcoholic:lachen:For real though, I might have to try this. I'm thinking Miller Lite or Rolling Rock maybe, but I really would prefer to drink it

i'm excited to try it too. i'll be going to the beach soon on a small family vacation. if beer really does strengthen hair, it should be great to combat the sea water!

I have used beer as a rinse and leave it in. It takes about half a day or more to get the smell out. I use the beers I grew up with guinness stout (sp), henekin and red stripe beer. The beer does make your hair feel stronger and thicker.

When I was younger I used beer as a rinse and sometimes if time permitted, I would leave it in for a couple of hours... I believe my hair was at it's healtiest then... I am thinking of starting it again. I used BUD!

Are you serious? You are wasting some seriously good beer!:lachen: I can believe that your hair was smelling like beer for days. Stout is no joke:lick:

Yes, but only the cheap ones. I have used beer as a final rinse and it is effective in making the hair more shiny.

I have made my own "Meade" in the past but I have never put it in my hair. The ingredients consist of water, honey, and yeast (very similar to the ethiopian drink, Tej). One day i will make it again and put it in my hair. I will post my results.

I'm getting a 12 pack in the morning to test out this theory :look: I'm on the no-buy June challenge, but I'm really not buying anything specifically for my hair. I'm buying it to drink, but if I just happen to leave one out to get warm and flat then I guess I'll for forced to put it to good use . I talked to someone tonight about this and he said the lady that does his dreads did this for his before and he liked the results.

Yeah! I know - I am wasting some good beer:lachen::lachen: If I did drink beer I would not use these. No, it took about half a day - maybe 4-6 hours for the smell to go away. But u can certainly wash the beer out of your hair to prevent the smell. I did the beer experiment on my weekend off so I was not going out.
