How do you do yours? I see some links but they don't have the same texture of hair as me so I am just wondering how to do it and what it will look like.

My hair is 4b. I moisturize my hair, seal with an oil, then I make 4-6 plaits. I roll the ends with pillow rollers. In the morning I and take them loose and it look like this:

If I want more wave definition at the roots then I will make 6-8 cornrows.

I do mine with cornrows with flexirods on the ends.
I use wrap foam or lottabody setting lotion.

It is important to make sure the braids arecompletely dry before you unravel it or it won't look good.

I have natural hair with no chemicals, so I spritz with my homemade concoction, add leave-in to my scalp and a tad bit to the length of my hair, seal with castor oil and plait in 8-10 braids at night. I take them down in the morning, fluff my hair and I am good. I don't have a pic right now because I am at work:blush:, but I will post one later because I am wearing one now.

My hair isn't as long as yours and mrsjohnson75 but when it get to that length, I am going to CLOWN with my braidouts.:yay:

I've been doing braidouts for a while like 3-4 years. I've done them two different ways.

1. Cornrow: When I first started,I would cornrow my hair into 6 big braids going down my back and then loop the ends around my finger and pin with a bobby pin to keep the 'loop/curl.' Before cornrowing, I apply my leave-in and then seal with an oil (usually a medium oil...on this pic, I think I used my little bottle of almond oil that I got from RiteAid). Over the years, I realized the best thing to do is to cornrow damp, almost dry hair instead of wet hair, b/c this cuts down on breakage tremendously for my hair and makes it easier to braid. After cornrowing, I would spritz each cornrow with plain water to moisten a bit. I would place some moisturizer on my edges. Then I tie down the top and the ends along my neck with a scarf and try to leave my crown out in the open to dry when I go to bed (I usually do them during the evening to dry overnight). When I wake up I unbraid and separate it lightly. I usually pin back the front so it's not all over my face.

2. Boxbraid: Since coming back to LHCF, I started box braiding to cut down on manipulation and time. I do the same thing to prep it like I did when I cornrow. I make like 6 boxbraids and loop the ends. It comes out nice, but I just have to pin back the front a bit more, b/c the front dries more 'straightish' this way than the cornrow way.

I prefer boxbraiding now, b/c I can just braid it back up at night, whereas with cornrows, I feared if I braided it in boxbraids to maintain that it would come out icky. With cornrow braidouts, I don't suggest re-cornrowing on dry hair. My hair would always tangle and break when I tried.

HTH...Sorry if I wrote too much. This is the first time I attached a pic to my post, so I hope it works.

Wow that braid out came out nice. I am off to wash my hair and cornrow it. I will use some wrap foam and do six cornrows. I am so excited.

thaks you got a blog for everything..lol jp. I bookmarked this and will use it next time as I have already cornrowed my hair. Your hair is so thick and pretty. It looks real healthy too.

Thanks girlie. I just have one blog about different stuff in my life and broke it down into different categories so it will be easier for people to find what interests them. Take care. Q

I don't know if I count because I have natural hair but...

...the braids aren't usually this small but I was on the Wig Challenge.

Thanks for running this thread Gemini. I'm still a little afraid to rock a braid out. I'm afraid it'll look like a big 'ol bush. When I take my corn rows down this weekend I'll see what happens. I have a feeling I'm going to love it. Looking at these pics of braid outs are really nice. I'm natural though so we'll see...

I prefer braidouts on "straightened" hair after air drying in a rollerset. The waves are looser and more swingy. I use nothing else on my hair after air drying.

I think that would be cool too. When I lift my no heat ban I'll flat iron and then braid. I can't wait to see that!

I have found that braiding up (or cornrowing if you know how) wet hair gives me this look; very bouncy hair with lots of movement.

No prob I mean I did a search and didn't find anything for my hair texture and the results so i posted.

I did my cornrows strait back cause with the heat I don't want any hair on my face. Also I am very proud of how nicely they braided minus the crooked parts. I am so excited to see the outcome. I did do the cornrows right though right?

Ok next question..How do you take down the braids? I mean After you unravel them how do you style? It looks like I will have no part which will be ok. i am a lil worried about my forhead blinding ppl but that's ok. do you uncrinkle some of them?

Girl,I have a biggish forehead, and I just make a mini-bouffant in the front and secure with a small claw clip. Or you could just try to make a small part on the side or the middle using your fingers. I usually pull back b/c I have a roundish face as well and when I have big wavy hair with no clip in the front, I look a bit weird. See what works best for you :)

And thanks for the compliment :)

I got some update pics coming my braidout came out nice. The only thing is it frizzed from the heat. Think I might use more wrap foam next time.

Thanks Queeny. This may be just what I need. I'll try it during my next wash. Being the PJ that I am, I already have all the products and comb. :look:
Good to know. I don't want to contribute to your habit.

I usually just wear them down or put a flower in my hair. Sometimes I will pull the top back in a loose ponytail and let the back hang down. When I am feeling goofy, I put them in 2 pigtails!!!! Q

Apply a little leave in, a tiny bit of oil or serum, and then a touch of aloe vera gelly, do 10-15 plaits, roll the ends (tiny magnetic rollers or solar rollers) and wrap it up for the night. In the morning, remove, fluff, and go.

very pretty braidout

Here is my update. I used glycerin and aloe vera and scurl and leave in as a moisturizer sealed with coocnut oil. my hair and curls were so soft this morning. Unfortunantly I was a frizz ball by the end of the day so I washed it out. I really like my braid out except my ends. I am gonna have to rock this when it's cooler or when I learn frizz control.
