THE DESTRUCTION OF RELAXERS

Ladies...

You are on a hair board where the relaxed ladies know ALL about relaxers, damage from relaxers, good hair practices...

In other words, they know JUST AS MUCH AS YOU DO about hair.

Why is it so hard to respect other people's choices?

If you want to preach natural, preach it at home. Preach it to people who are ignorant about their hair.

In this environment, it isn't needed (you're NOT going to teach anyone something they don't already know about relaxers) and it sure as hell isn't WANTED.

I respect everyone here. Don't make this site a hostile environment to ANYONE just because everyone doesn't conform to YOUR ideals.

:nono:

Now you know you wrong for that! :lachen:

OT...

The Boundless Tresses is working wonders on my hair. I have edges now. My edges broke off when I was 9 (and still natural) and I have never been able to completely fill them back in until now. I keep showing off my edges to my mom.

Nobody has to like the video
nor take it serious

but the pictures dont lie and aint nobody up in here tellin nobody what to do with their hair. I am voicing my opinion about it being the truth that its a trauma that no other race of child has had to suffer and I find it sad

whoever turned this into a relaxer vs natural debate, well that was those people

but also I do have the right to post such material here, its no different than a woman coming on and posting pics of her damaged hair from a relaxer

wow who was being hostile?

And, I don't why some of you people insist on bringing this ish here. There is a place for you. It's callled www.napturality.com go and commiserate with the like minded. Just leave us alone for cryin' out loud!:perplexed

well I see it as valid material to be viewed, if you dont see it that way you dont have to nor even look at it.

but since this speaks of something very valid , that relaxers can cause such damage for children why should it only be posted on nappturality

check the childrens section of this site, its going on right here on lhcf

like I said this was dug up by me for a mother who relaxes her 8 year old's hair and was talking about the damage it caused

so it has its place and purpose and truth

My last comment was for everyone to see. I'm not attacking any one person. It took more than one person for this thread to go downhill. I just see an attitude here that is simply not fair. This isn't a relaxed OR natural board, no one wants to feel judged or pressured.

If it don't apply, let it fly...

LOL. I think she's right.

This site (this section of the site, at least ) is about growing longer, healthier hair. Relaxed or natural. Our hair journeys are going to be different. If people can't respect that they should bounce. :peace:

wow and how was this video in opposition of that?

or how did it disrespect that?

ok I'm just gonna have to agree with another poster that people are mad at the truth! what else could this be

cause this is going way out in left field now

Interesting reading found here --> http://www.thejewishweek.com/viewArticle/c35_a1703/Fresh_Ink_for_Teens.html

Excerpts:
Although these stereotypes emanate from anti-Semitism there is no denying that many Jews have brown, curly, even unruly hair and frequently a straightener to go along with it. Gilman does not see hair straightening as an identity problem for Jewish teenagers. “It strikes me as a minor alteration,” said Gilman.

When asked to estimate how many Jewish girls she knew that owned a hair straightener, Ramaz sophomore Ilana Schulder responded, “Everyone.” The straightener is a wondrous invention that flattens and smoothes puffy and frizzy hair that, for many Jewish girls, takes on a life of its own right out of the shower. Is this a problem? Is hair straightening an addiction that is bad for the Jewish persona?
Back in the 1960s girls of all races and religions used clothing irons and ironing boards to straighten their hair — despite the frequency of burning catastrophes. Today the technology is more advanced but the idea is the same: turn frizzy and unmanageable hair into something lustrous and low-maintenance. The very latest technology — known as straightening
—also comes with a steep price, around $750, for a treatment that lasts from six to nine months. The process entails six long hours of chemical and heat treatment.

I know plenty of white women who have body waves, curly perms and chemical straightening. It's not just a black woman thing like people try and make it. The deal with heat damage too (drying and flat ironing) protein problems, thinning hair, color damage ect. :ohwell:

Some white women struggle with growing their hair. My old roommate used to cry b/c she couldn't get her hair to grow. She was on a low heat regimen too LOL.

Surely you jest. If you are serious, reread the comments that followed. Divisiveness at its best.

Happy hair growing!

Who here didn't know "the truth" before you posted the video?

You're talking to a bunch of hair obsessed BLACK women. Similar experiences, similar hair texture, similar cultures, around the same level of knowledge of hair.

Tell me, what truth does anyone here not know?

I don't believe that you intended the thread to go in this direction, but some people had to go there.

I havent seen any jews with balding edges or permanent hair loss, or even breaking damaged hair that wont grow yet :look:

but I suppose they are out there somewhere

hmmm... could that mean that it's not necessarily the chemicals but moreso about the care that goes on after the chemicals?

however, i posted that info because i thought it was interesting to show other peoples who go through similar chemical struggles....

Right girl I didnt say there werent hair guru's here. I was just posting about the damage being done to childrens hair/scalp in the video

where ever it went from there it went........

I didnt post it because I figured everybody knew the truth I figured that there might be some 'like that mother that sparked this' that would need to see such a video

LOLOL

So the video has no validity even though it IS our race that is highly pressured from a young age to straighten our hair and even though the pictures showed the damage?

well youtube be damned them

and me be damned for posting it

the whole point is twisted and discombobulated now anyway

so whatever

*dead thread*

I have. A non black co-worker of mine damaged her hair so much with color, glue and straightners that her hair was patchy, balding and crunchy. I took her to the BSS and helped her find a wig to cover up that mess. I didn't know about LHCF or the LHF back then or I would have directed her to the web site. Even after nearly going bald, she kept on damaging her hair and only wearing wigs long enough to grow hair to cover the hair locks (type of extentsions). The hair locks would break off her hair and she'd be back to the wigs. This went on for YEARS.

But again the whole point was about what its doing to CHILDREN

FOLLOWING IS THE POST THAT MADE ME FIND THE VIDEO

Hi, name is Bev and I'm new here. I decided to join this group since
I'm thinking very seriously about taking the perm out of my dd hair.
First question is what r the procedures for going back to natural
from perm with a child (8)? What are good products to grow her hair.
I noticed every time it seems hair growth is advancing...later I
might noticed where hair is thinning and broken off near the temples
and in the very back. Thank God, her hair is thick natured, and it
seems to cover most flaws. Regardless, to me it is a total wreck
because it's shorter and broken off in places...then longer and
uneven in places...As thick as it is I'm now beginning to notice
thinning also, the more I think about it.

I've decided to care for her hair myself. She doesn't care one way or
the other as long as she grows long hair (lol). Would a straightening
comb or hot comb be reccommended to kill the kinks...that's why I
tried perm in the first place, didn't have any tips to make life
easier back then...I know natural has got to be healthier.

Will braids and extensions further damage her hair...whoa! I'm
stopping here. I can imagine all these questions already answered
here...forgive me but my pc is a bit slow and it would take days to
search for these answers...I know this will be a challenge but I have
the faith.

WHAT DONT YA'LL GET HAIR GURUS OR NOT CHILDREN'S HAIR/AND SCALPS ARE BEING DESTROYED BY RELEXERS! AND AGAIN THIS WOMAN HAD HER DAUGHTER'S HAIR
PROFESSIONALLY DONE!

LET ME SET THIS STRAIGHT ONE MO GIN, I DONT GIVE A RATS BOOTY WHAT YA'LL DO WITH YOUR HAIR, BUT I HATE HATE HATE TO SEE A CHILD'S HAIR BEING DESTOYED BY CHEMICALS!!
NOW THINK WHAT YOU WANT ABOUT THAT!

I WILL STILL FEEL THE SAME AND I WONT LOSE NO SLEEP! THIS MOTHER NEEDED TO SEE THE VIDEO AND THAT WAS MY MISSION, AND/OR ANY OTHER MOTHER PUTTIN CHEMICALS IN THEIR BABIES HAIR!
