Since it coats the hair shaft, is there a possibility that the conditioner won't penetrate the hair like it needs to?

Hmm...how about the next time when you have to wash and DC again? The rinse that's left on the hair shaft can still block it, right? :scratchchhm.. from what I know a rinse is used *afer* the deep conditioning process, so you'd shampoo, DC then use a rinse to detangle. If that's the case than the DC has the opportunity to penetrate each hair strand because the rinse is being used after.

i dont believe that it does. i am the queen of rinses and i have always been able to have successful deep conditions. if anything they cause the rinse to come out faster. maybe because they are penetrating and washing the color out?either way my hair is only a lil tough after the first rinse (from the protein) and then after that its fine.
I've seen regimens where they did the oil rinse before DC. that's what I was referring to.
