i have just been browsing the site and have come acroos a few pages about the importance of clarfying

i have never done this before :perplexed
and havnt noticed any of my products acting differently on my hair

is it important to clarfy?

I never clarified either from the time I was born until just a few years ago and even then I don't do it often. Unless you're putting a lot of gels, spray, grease, whatever and you you have a lot of buildup or the products you use no longer seem to work then if not clarifying is working for you then skip it.

It really depends on your hair and the products you are using.
If you feel you have some sort of buildup on your hair then clarifying might help resolve the issue. Things like Silicone & petroleum can cause buildup.

If you don't have lots of those things in your regimen then you might not want to clarify.

Some people never use any kind of shampoo at all (only conditioner) and they have wonderful results.

It really depends on you.

In my opinion, you don't need to clarify if you use a regular strength shampoo frequently.

Those who have a problem with build-up (people who use grease, co washers, people who mostly use non sulfate poos, people who use a lot of cones, etc...) benefit the most from clarifying.

Up until joining this forum, I had never clarified and never really known about it :look:.
I don't think it's necessary to be honest, but I choose to do it once a month now as I no longer use shampoo's and have been using indian powders twice a week on wash days.

I never clarified before joining this board. Now I do clarify regularly because I use a lot of silicones which can build up on hair and stop moisture from getting in. I usually clarify a couple of times a month and then deep condition. The deep conditioning seems to penetrate best when I have just clarified.

I used to ask myself why my stylist would scrub my hair until it was squeeky clean. Then I realized that the cleaner they got my hair the better the style would be at the end.
I rarely go to a stylist nowadays and I never wash my hair to the point where it is squeeky clean. So I clarify to make up for it. I usually pre-poo before clarifying so my hair doesn't dry out as much.

i agree!...u may have never bought a product that says "clarifying" on it, but there are a lot of regular shampoos that contain 1 or 2 of the sulfates that are in clarifying poos. So in the end, u were probably using sulfates this whole time, just not from a clarifying product.

Everytime I've clarified my hair was a massive mess.:yep: It took 4 hrs. to detangle, what a disaster.:wallbash: Then I realized that it was what I was using, not my hair. Aloe rid by Nexxu is a big no-no for me.:nono:

I've never clarified myself until I joined up on this forum. When shopping for hair products and stuffs, I've come across some clarifying shampoos, and never thought anything of them. Now I know what they're for, but I like using baking soda mixed with conditioner when I do a clarify. It gets the job done for me. :)

I won and just received a liter bottle of Joico chealting shampoo for only $18 incl shipping. Me thinks that's a great deal!!
