Relaxed heads: Don't sleep on putting a little condish back in after you cowash

I don't apply it to my scalp, I never apply anything to my scalp really it never feels dry. I apply it from root to tip of the hair shaft and concentrate on my ends as I would any moisturizer. And since it's conditioner it provides amazing slip to detangle... I've never had an issue with detangling in any case, but in any case you shouldn't have any detangling issues.

FORGIVE ME, I'm a little slow...working on my master's degree in education of all things, but I'm new to the whole hair thing. So you do it with individual sections of your hair?

NO WONDER I WAS SO ITCHY. STUPID ME.....thanks girlie!

IT'S EXTREMELY BAD DANDRUFF! I use perscription lorpox shampoo perscribed by my derm.

Anyway, do you ladies just wash the hair (the back of my hair) with conditioner and leave it off the scalp......if so, what do you use to detangle?

M.

Nope, I lather in the conditioner on hair and the scalp. Then I leave it on while bathing myself and the final thing I do before getting out of the shower is rinse the condtioner out. Then I use my HE Hello Hydration, about a palm sized amount, and work it through my hair, then I apply castor oil and tie my wet hair back in a ponytail and sleep with a scarf. In the morning, I apply coconut oil all over my hair, but put extra on the ends and my hair has been thriving!

The one concern you may have with doing this is definitely build up. If you use conditioners that have a high silicone content then you will likely need to clarify more often. But with small amounts I would assume you'd be ok. Afterall a lot of moisturizers also have silicones in them too (mostly dimethicone), but I find that often they are too heavy for my hair or I just don't feel like they work as well as I'd personally like them to.

I've started to use the Organix line as my leave-in (I also love Salerm 21 so I switch back and forth depending on what I feel like doing or what my hair needs). You only use a small amount in any case... If you use too much it can start to feel a bit filmy. My hair seems a lot more moisturized, even less tangles, doesn't catch on itself, and when I flat iron, it feels silkier. Also blowdrying doesn't dry my hair out with this either...

And when I looked at the ingredients of some of the moisturizers I've used (mainly Elasta QP mango butter, Ors Olive Oil Moisturizer, and Jane Carter Nourish and Shine) they have similar ingredients. Only the conditioner has less things added giving MY hair a more weightless feel.

Wow, what a great observation. Thanks for sharing Foxie.

Great informational discussion, Ajoyfully!!!

Question, why wash the conditioner out at all if you're just going to put it back in?

Lys

I like to control how much conditioner stays in my hair. If I only wash some of it out, I don't have any idea how much is still in my hair, but if I wash all of it out and know that I only want a palm-sized amount of conditioner in my hair, then I know that's what it will be. Also, I use my cheapie conditioners for co-wash(V05, Suave) and my mid-priced conditioners for the Leave in(HE Hello Hydration) because it is thicker and I like the smell.

@JOYFULJOY...Ok--stupid question: You can leave a regular conditioner in your head? I thought it had to be rinsed out.
:look:
But I'm not sleeping on your methods. I cowash with and use my conditioner (with water and a few oils) as a leave-in--but the conditioner can double as a leave-in.
I just never knew you could leave regular conditioner in your hair after the fact...

Girl it ain't nothing wrong with asking questions. I wouldn't do it with a deep conditioner, but just those light, daily conditioners. And you only put in a little. I probably use a quarter size worth which is probably too much to some ladies but my hair loves this amount.

Really to me, I see a small diff. b/t a light conditioner and a leave-in when your WnGo'ing or just bunning. All you want is something that has slip, detangles the hair and helps it hold shape a little, you know?

Many naturals do this all the time with no problem. So I think some relaxed heads should take advantage of this too :yep:

b/c when I cowash I get the condish on my scalp. I rinse and massage the scalp, then I put it back in the hair on my length only.

I also clarify often and do protein treatments, so I'm not worried about build up.

Ajoyfuljoy, thank you so much for posting this!!! I tried it after my co wash this morning and my hair feels great! Even my super dry nape feels nice and soft! I can't believe it! :woohoo2:

that's great and you're welcome!!!

My hair is also feeling really soft. I keep reaching my hand up there to feel my new growth, lol!

I was also able this morning to get up out the bed and not have to do anything to my bun. Usually it's kind of falling apart but I just had to stick a couple of pins in the sides and go!

What are you all doing *after*? Like roller sets, wet bun, etc?

I don't have bun-length hair yet, so I'm trying to figure out how I can do this w/o having to rollerset and whatnot.

I don't to the condish leave in thing for rollersets, only twistouts and buns for me. I guess it would still work though if you did like a twist out or a ghetto rollerset where you weren't trying to have a fromt the salon look (just to like airdry it in rollers or something).

I used to have my hair cut really short and I was able to make a maybe one inch long ponytail! I was so happy about that ponytail! You just made me think about that.

Maybe just put a scarf over your hair real tight so it dries straight and then when you comb it, it should be OK. I be on the train with a scarf over my edges so they dry straight, I don't care, lol!

Or even wrapping it?

Yeah this is what I've started doing more of as well, and I've got to say, no need for moisturizer... I've been searching for the perfect moisturizer actually and nothing really satisfies what I'm looking for, either too heavy or just not quite right. I've been adding in my Coconut Milk Organics Conditioner - just a small amount, and then sealing with their coconut milk serum, and sometimes a little coconut oil. My hair is finally VERY happy. ...:yep:

I agree with the bolded:yep:. I mixed some humectress with profective mega growth- and my hair FINALLY feels happy and moisturized. My ends are thirstier so I just use humectress on them and they are even happy. Great thread.

Lately just a ponytail. But when I finish my stretch in 1 month, I will be doing rollersets.

How long is your hair? Do you have pics of your twist outs?

I want to cowash, but I'm afraid of how it will come out if i air dry?

Does anyone have pics at various stages, including styling?

I used to do that back in the day when I was a big Bumble and Bumble fan. I'ved tried it with other condish but it doesn't work the same as with Bb. Alojoba Con.
I've had a hardcore issue with breakage because of over-moisturized hair. But, I did it last night and the night before, and my hair was so easy to deal with this morning. It wasn't dry and it was very easy for me to get it into my HairZing. THank you for reminding me why I love this technique. I know Bb. products are expensive (I stopped last time bc I couldn't afford to spend $65 on conditioner so wash and leave-in my hair. It went too fast) but this was totally worth it.

I do have twist out pics, just not uploaded yet. My hair is blunt cut b/t SL and APL.

BTW ladies, this morning when I was wetting my hair in the shower (2 days after me originally maknig the post in this thread), no condish came out in the water, it wasn't slippery at all! I think my hair soaked up all the condish, lol!

My hair really loves moisture, I'm finding this out more and more.

I am a little nervous about air drying my hair but I have started cowashing and my hair feels SO much better. I feel like throwing away my shampoos. I'm really trying to figure out the benefit of using shampoos over cowashing. Any know why someone would use shampoo over cowash? My hair was just as clean.

Nice! I'm going to try this on my next wash. How much do you recommend to use, dime size?

My scalp itches like crazy if I don't shampoo especially if I'm cowashing all the time. That's the only reason why i still shampoo though.

I've yet to find a leave in that I really like other than Hawain Silk 14 in 1 and NTM. So I do use my condish as leave in quite a bit. I try to mix it with something to dilute it though.

ReignLocks I guess it depends on what kind of products and how much you put in your hair on a daily basis, like if you use 'cones regularly plus co-wash, you'll probably need to clarify with shampoo every so often. With this dry air weather I'm moisturizing and sealing on a daily basis so I'll shampoo every 3 washes to avoid build-up of product the condish can't completely remove.

I do this when I'm cowashing and airdrying, which seems to be everyday now. Leaves my hair detangled, super soft, and shiny.
