How would you convince someone to try...

You can show them your progress and the progress of others who CW. But CW w/o shampoo doesn't work for EVERYONE, it doesn't work for me, and after months of doing constant CW and no-pooing, I realized that it was causing setbacks. So I say, you can show them, but if shampooing works for them, they probably won't crossover.

That's exactly what I told her. She's seen my progress and still...

She admitted that she's conditioned to think when it comes to cleaning the scalp and hair, only shampoo can do it. I'm sure I thought like that at one point. I would like for her to try cleansing with it in addition to using poo (if she so chooses).

Well...she did admit she'd try it later. But I want her to try it NOW, NOW, NOW

I wouldn't try to convince them. Its their head their problem. I would only suggest it once. If they don't do it thats on them. End of story.

Tread lightly when trying to convince others of new methods.:perplexed

It might NOT be a good idea to convince her to cowash only because you would also need to investigate the rest of the products she uses.

If she uses lots of cones or heavy petroleum or mineral oil products then she should probably stick to the shampoo. To make sure that those things are being cleansed from her scalp & hair.

Unless you are gonna totally streamline her routine and get her to do everything that you do...you're on dangerous ground.

You may just try to talk her into diluting her shampoo and only doing one lather.

The elimination of shampoo does not produce the same results from person to person.

Plus, if she's rejecting your suggestion, that means you need to zip it and bounce!

Nah, we're cool.

I just wanted some ideas on how to approach other people in GENERAL about this. For example, what would you highlight about CW, knowing how you thought previously about shampooing. As I mentioned in my previous post, she's going to try it when I do her hair but she's not ready to NOT buy any shampoos period lol. For example, I'm about to go with her to buy some shampoo in a few minutes. I told her at the very least, learn about the difference between the different TYPES of shampoos.

Mook: I've gotten into her whole regimen and how some folks prefer shampoo and why etc. etc.

do you think the shampoo is having a negative effect on her hair?

instead of convincing her to drop the shampoo, you might try convincing her to use shampoo properly. as in, not sudsing up all her hair, piling it on top of her head and squishing away like she's scrubbing dirty laundry. :lachen: help her understand that shampoo is for cleaning the scalp and to ONLY put it on her scalp, then as she rinses the suds will make their way down her hair and gently cleanse it.

i bet she will see a difference.

as with anything, some people are open and some people can't be convinced. but whenever i tell other people about CW, i explain to them that conditioners have cleansing agents in them already, and how harsh some of the cleansing agents in shampoo are (i liken it to liquid dish soap, a lot of people are surprised by that).

I think I'll focus on this part when I explain CW-ing to people.
Thanks!

I agree. Not even co-washing works for everyone anyway. It is not the solution to everyone's problem and does not work AT ALL for others.

Yep. That goes for just about every technique and product out there. Everything isn't for everybody. Instead of focusing on Cowashing, you can give her methods she can use to protect herself from using too much shampoo like putting a little conditioner on her ends before she washes. I personally don't get amazing results cowashing but prepooing works for me.
