In hair purgatory
It takes me so long to detangle even with sections that the water starts to get cold and i have to take a cold shower. any tips with out doing too much effort? i usually still have to detangle when i get out so this has to be solved ASAP.

HTH, but I will section my hair in braids and put conditioner on it before I even get in the shower. I brush the conditioner through my hair with my denman brush, rebraid it then I get in the shower, and quickly and thoroughly rinse the conditioner out of my hair one section at a time and rebraid each section so it doesn't tangle. If I did all this while I was in the shower, it would take forever.

there was like a big post about this not long ago but i can't get the silly search engine to work.

i do what honeycomb does and start detangling before you get in the shower. use conditioner to dampen and soften up your hair and gently section and detangle put in some sloppy braids, twists or use ponytail elastics on the loose hair. in the shower you just need to work the water through to rinse and rebraid and out you go.

I must say that what has helped are a few things......

1. My Denman Brush..... I detangle only AFTER my final post conditioning session. I hop back in the shower.... Detangle EACH section with denman, Then Rinse............

2. Steam Treatments.... They have Changed my life - FOR REAL..... zero tangles and incredibly soft hair.
3. Washing in sections. I rarely have my hair out.
4. Oil Rinses. this is another thing that I do - and I would never NOT do it now.

what's a steam treatment? :scratchch

I hope in the shower, wet my hair put some conditioner in, let it sit for 5 minutes, wash my face, brush my teeth...then I rinse the conditioner out, put in a better, more expensive on, let that sit while I wash...then, turn down the hot water, detangle, the I turn the hot water back up. Rinse the conditioner out, handle some odds and ends....that usually hellps me:yawn:

This is exactly what I was doing up until a while ago.
Now I just load my hair up with conditioner while in the shower, and just detangle it after I get out. (I don't wash out the condtioner) I comb through in small sections with a wide tooth comb and then with my denman. Then I twist it up and go to bed :yep:

What about those of us with TWAs? I'll be hitting the 4" mark in two weeks...it's still too short to braid and section (at least for me and my two paws). I'm wasting so much water now! :nono:

I hate to be the 167th person to ask this... but how do you use a denman, what makes it so great... and isn't it just like any other brush (from what I've seen)? Does it tear your hair out if you use it wrong?

And which one of the 6,000 million brushes they make do you use? Are there different brushes for different textures? If so, I'm a 4a for the most part if that helps...

:sekret: please don't tell on me lol I didn't want to start a thread asking cause theres gotta be so many already:rolleyes:

RE: Denman brush---

It will not tear or rip your hair out if your hair is wet and/or coated with lots of conditoner. This brush will slide through your hair very easily and it will get any shed hair out of your hair, I will not detangle without it. It is not like any other brush.

LadyKay made a YouTube video showing her using the Denman brush. I have not had success personally with using the Denman without ripping my hair out and hurting myself, but lots of people have so I definitely seem to be in the minority.

OP, I also don't generally detangle in the shower. On the few occasions I did, I found I did a seriously half @$$ job because of trying to get out before the water got cold. It's also such a waste of water. It's better that I do it before or after.

girl i gave up on that a LOOOOOOONG time ago! it takes me an hour to detangle all this hair... not only would i be standing in an icy shower, but my water bill would be sky-high! :lachen:

after i slather my hair in conditioner, i turn off the water and then get to detangling. when i'm all done i return to the shower and rinse.

there are lots of Denman Brushes out there.

I allow the conditioner to soak in while I'm showering and then use my Jilbere shower comb at the end under the stream of the shower. Takes less than 1 minute.

Try detangling before you get in the shower. Just section off how many sections you want, spray each section down with a detangler or some water and slather something with slip on it (conditioner, oil, etc.) then take your time and detangle each section and braid or twist it up until you get in the shower. I do this and it saves a lot of time and it's much easier to do since you can take your time w/o having to worry about rushing before the hot water runs out. I think when you feel rushed you're more prone to recklessly detangling which could cause unecessary breakage.
