Ladies, help me!

I'm an administrator for a hair and skin group on cafemom. A lot of the women are clueless when it comes to hair, and no matter how much advice I give, a lot of them still don't know what's going on. It doesn't help that there are members who THINK they know what they're talking about. Like the member who's a natural stuck at SL for 3 years, and told a woman that the moisturizers I recommended were for white people and water based moisturizers make your hair nappy erplexed (I've gotten into it a few times with this member because of her b!tchy attitude )

Or the member who said co washing will cause build up and breakage and that it's more suited for white people

Or the ''stylist'' who clarifies her clients hair AT LEAST twice a month and says you don't need to deep condition for more than a few minutes

Ladies, please come and help me help these women! (And prove the know-it-all's wrong!)

You can lead a horse to water, and you can't make it drink, but you can feed it salty peanuts. Seeing how lovely your hair is and how it continues to grow will have them eating salty peanuts. Then they'll be begging you for those "white people" hair secrets.

On the real, maybe you could give them links to unlocked fotki albums (esp. ones where people list the products and techniques they use). A picture is worth a thousand words (or I told you so's).

I hear ya but sometimes some women just don't want to hear what their doing wrong or don't want help and feel their doing the right things even after repeating the same mistakes over and over again. They have to decide they TRULY want help and if they did, they would listen to what you have to say...it's a shame I know but true. Though maybe hearing it from another person other than yourself may help.

Girl, I gave them links to Sylver, Kiesha, Pokahontas, Dontspeakdefeat and PLENTY of other folks. So they can see how beautiful your hair can be and how much it can grow by properly taking care of it.

There are some members who take my advice and their hair is MUCH better now, so I don't know why the others are so resistant. It just annoys me cause their ignorant comments can lead some of the other members to be like ''Yeah, that WOULD make my hair fall out. Forget that!''

Seriously---I am not worthy! I have found wayyyy TOO many hair inspirations to not at least be receptive to their advice. If so many others can do it--I feel like it's possible for myself and others as well.

So....'show and prove' to those females. When I first looked through the site I went STRAIGHT to the pics. Because I wanted to SEE what everyone was talking about. Some ppl just respond better when introduced to visuals. Maybe that's what the newbies and skeptics need, y'know?

...'Specially if you got a broad who's been SL for 3 yrs, and here she is runnin around 'advising' ppl... what?

...the heck is that about? I'm surprised no one has busted her out yet. LOL

...and some 'beauticians' are no more knowledgeable than the average layperson. erplexed Cause it's hard to find one that knows how to care for and MAINTAIN black hair in my experiences. If you find one that can maintain hair AND style the way you want it you've struck gold. Because many only know how to style hair and mask problems. And I mean--I can do that, so what the hell am I paying YOU for?

Anywho--I wouldn't feel too bad about that lady.
Had a discussion with my cousin about differences between moisture and protein conditioners and how both relate to breakage/resolving breakage. I was trying to gather information out of her and she was looking at me like I was telling her something she ain't know.
But this ***** went through cosmo school when I was like what--11! She's been doing hair for yrs off and on.

To me--it's just like any other job. Seem like those in the beauty industry would be required to take annual refresher courses. Seems like they would be required to attend workshops and things of that nature...y'know--to keep them abreast of new findings and techniques?
I know some places do this but I've run across too many ignorant stylists to believe this is a standard practice.

Far as I'm concerned all it takes is a little research...and you don't need a degree for that.
Just a computer...

But anyway--like most have already stated I like to spectate--I will be visiting your site.

Leave them alone and let them do what they want to. I had a roomie who was natural and never took my advice. I remember she told me her relaxed hair just came off and that's how she became natural. She said I should try it that way.erplexed Puck Naw I'm not having my hair break off all over the place! You wacked?!

Even after she saw how my hair grew that summer she still wouldn't believe me. It was almost as if she was pissed off that I even bothered to give her advice. She said the same thing about water-based moisturizers making your hair kink up when you're natural. Well... DON'T GO NATURAL IF YOU DON'T WANNA SEE SOME NAPS! ETA: I have a hard time when it comes to people supporting my blog. I get views and lots of support but not too much from black women and not much from my friends/family... although I do their hair. I've noticed that black women like the idea of being thought of as "less than" a women. It seems that we've internalized so much negativity when it comes to our looks that we desperately want to feel and look ugly just to prove the rest of the world that they are right. That's why we constantly compare ourselves to other races, as if there is a huge difference. There is none, but we want to believe it so we can cling to the excuses like its the perfect excuse for our own short-comings.
