How many people braiding for the summer?

:nono:

I wore braids from 5th grade .. to 7th .. then most of 9th .. and a bit of this year. Continuously. If my hair hadn't been so jacked up, resulting in a BC, I'd have hair to my feet.

Sick to death of them. Plus, the ones I got in 9th grade [box braids] I got b.c we were swimming for 2 weeks in gym, and leaving them wet and going to my next class RIPPED MY EDGES OUT SOMETHING SERIOUS.

So no, I'm being so good to my hair in 08.:yep::yep:

I plan on braiding this summer. I have worn micro braids, cornrows and kinky twist. A pic of my twist are in my album. My hair grows good w/ braids but the set of kinky twists I got did a number on my ends b/c the hair tangled. This time I may do them myself and use the hair I orginally bought to use. The braiders didn't like the hair and had me buy something else which looked good but wasn't good on my ends. Thank the Lord I didn't have to cut too much off.

Micros are a no no for my hair. :nono: Kinky twists dry out my hair. And I don't like the way regular individuals look. So I think I'm going to stick with senegalese twists because they don't rip out my edges and they are nice and lite on my fine strands.:yep:

What kind of hair is used for these?

I wanted to wear some but I don't want to pay someone $150 when I could use that any number or things like credit card bills or buying hair ingredients.

I think I just might. . . but here is my issue, someone help me, if u don't mind. . . I prefer to get braids/twists when I have a lot of new growth. . .

right now I am currently 4 months post. . . December 28th was my last relaxer. . . now I have a graduation on may 23rd. . . and my mother hates my "nappy" look, so I was goin to get a relaxer, just so she can have the pictures she wants. plus I miss my "freshly relaxed" styles anyway and I only trim when I get a relaxer. . . now I want to get braids, for the summer, but I don't want to get them on freshly relaxed hair. what to do, what to do:ohwell:

well relax asap and then braid after grads so that will give you almost a month...you should have new growth by then.

Is it the braids or type of hair used that causes the thinning? Funny thing is I have never had an issue with cornrows only individual braids/twists. That is a great suggestion, but honestly I do not think I have the patience to do them myself.

I think it has more to do with people putting more hair per section of the braid than the scalp can hold and pulling too tight when braiding. The secret is to put less extension hair than your own section and to braid it firm but not tight, and to make sure that when your hair gets loose at the base, whether from washing or new growth, you redo that braid ASAP, especially along the edges.

*cosigns* ^^^

I am seriously considering it. My kid is going to beg me to take him to the pool, so I am not looking forward to struggling with my natural hair 3 or 4x a week, and keeping it in synthetic braids is the only time saving way for me not to lose hair if I will be swimming on the regular.

I am doing braids for the summer I just dont' know when. Next month is my 12 wk TUP and the last time I got braids and skipped the TU I had like 20+ wks of new growth!! A little more than I wanted to handle. So I am thinking in June I may put them in.

I have a job interview coming up in 2 weeks, and then will likely get my braids right after that. I want to keep them in for at LEAST 4 weeks... so hopefully that works out. Just some basic cornrows, nothing too fancy or expensive. :yep:

I'm def considering getting this done during the summer... I'm trying to stretch my relaxers now, and I can only do so with the help of a blow out to my roots. When summertime hits, there's no way i want to be bothered with getting my hair blown out weekly just for it it sweat and kink up the roots again. I'm thinking of getting some basic corn rows or something for a month during the summer.

I will be. I love my kinky twist in the summer. So easy to put in and take out and manageable. Just get up and go! Plus im always guranteed excellent growth. I will switch back to my sew-in's (straight or wet n wavy) depending on what the event is. Otherwise, kinky twist it is.

ETA: $150-185 to braid some hair? smh. They are not even right for that. I thought paying $80 was already ridiculous.

Hair already braided with kanekalon braid hair. I do them myself thanks to grow afro hair long free online dvd. I have had braids in since April 8th and plan to keep them in until May 30th. I redo my edges every 2 weeks. I co wash every 2 or 3 days and use baking soda rinses to wash away buildup every 2 or 4 weeks. I apply MTG and amla oil to my scalp every skip a night and use a sponge to apply my very diluted leave in conditioner nightly or every other night to my braids.

Right now I am 9 week post relaxed and will be 14 weeks post when I remove my braid May 30th. I'll be scared to go any further since I self relax. After relaxing I may put braids back in again from of July 1st and Sep 5th.

I will probably do my twist the end of May so they will last until the LHCF convention in July.

I will do twists this summer. Not braids though. Since I am doing them myself the braids take longer to put in and take down.

I want to, but it depends on my funds. I can't find a braider that charges under $185 (not including hair)

I do so much better when I am not messing with my hair.

see this is y i do my own braids - i'm cheap and i've never been happy with anything braiders did for me plus no matter how many times i tell them, they always braid too tight.

i'm living in cornrows till who knows when. definitely until my relaxed hair is gone.

I wish I could just do it myself, it would make it som much easier.
