Mine was pretty thick...with a slightly nutty smell. Some batches I got were more yellow, some were more beige. If you don't mind me asking, what is the thickness of unrefined shea butter?
I get mine from lotioncrafters.com its called natyral shea butter and is unrefined.
My last purchase was 1lb(16oz) for $5.75.
does anyone know if they sell this at whole foods?
Thanks for this post because I was just wondering where to get some of this yummy stuff for my curls.
I usually purchase my shea butter from this site:
Their Raw Shea Butter costs only $3.49 per pound (good stuff)..they also sell Raw Cocoa Butter (good stuff), Raw Mango Butter (haven't tried it yet but most likely good stuff), and other items...they also have a storefront location in the downtown Brooklyn, NY area....
Click on the "African Natural Products" link for the butters

Is raw the same as unrefined? If not, do you know what the difference is?
I think it is the same...I purchased a small sample of "Unrefined Shea Butter" from nasaab.com a while back & it felt & reacted to my hair the SAME as the Raw Shea Butter that I get from madinaonline.com...it had the same smell too....
I don't know why their prices are so low w/ $3.49 per pound (they used to charge $2.99 per pound!), but lotioncrafter.com is not too far behind w/ charging $5+ for a pound...I think the price goes down when they purchase wholesale amounts, so it ends up cheaper for us!
Thank you so much. I will be placing an order today.![]()
Can you use it on relaxed hair as well? I mostly see naturals say they use it.
I would really like to find a decent moisturizer and the ones that everyone raves about either never worked on my hair or stopped working after a while. However, I never see anyone say that shea butter stops working.
TIA.
tyefrmy....shea butter by itself is not a moisturizer..it is an emollient sealant....it is best to use on damp hair to seal in the moisture from the water on your hair....
most people like to whip up a butter concoction w/ shea butter as the main ingredient and they add other oils to make a smooth butter and also some people like to add aloe vera gel and glycerin for moisture....if you mix shea & aloe, then you do not have to use it on damp hair b/c the aloe will provide moisture
Since you are relaxed, I would say to use a small amount and focus on your ends...naturals can use more but I don't think anyone should slather it on b/c it is a heavy emoillient

If it's white it's refined. I don't like that kind....I put it on my knees and heels...I don't put it on my hair.I got some shea butter on friday, the brand is NOW and I'm about 99% sure it's not unrefined or raw (didn't think of that until I was gone). Its in a blue-purpleish jar but it looks really white and it has a seal on it so I couldn't look at it really soo I wanna take it back and maybe order some. My what questions are does anyone know for sure if this stuff is refined or not and how has it worked for you.
