Houston ladies, where do you get your unrefined shea butter? I want to use Nichi's recipe (thanks) and whip up some moisturizer.

Thanks

Dont know what side of town your on but...

Although I've found the cheapest prices when I buy it in bulk on ebay, I have also found it in 8oz jars at a beauty supply store on 1960 and 45N. I cant remember the name of it but it's right next to a Kroger store whose address is 360 fm 1960 W 77090.

I'm in Pearland so that would be quite a trip. I found a place on-line that's off of 59 I believe, I'd have to call and verify the addy. I'm hoping there's somewhere closer to my side of town. Hummm I wonder if Whole Foods has it???

Just called Natural Rewards in Pearland and they said they have raw shea butter from Africa. I'll shoot by this weekend to check it out. Thank you all for the replies. Nichi, I can't wait to try this mix. Oh do you use it on wet or dry hair? I'm planning to use it on wet hair and then air-dry. I'm hoping it's not too heavy to use to flat-iron if I choose to do so. I think the key is going to be using a lil product vs. being heavy-handed.

Girl, why didn't I think of that. I'm 90% sure that they do. Check the NOW brand. It's probably more expensive, though, and they call it "pure". Not sure if it's refined/unrefined.

I use it on both wet and dry, but mostly wet. The styles I do outside of weave are 1) twistout 2) buns. So I put it in right after the wash and style. I think you can use it prior to falt ironing, I did, but only a little bit, because it can be kinda heavy (well my mix was). It was perfect if youre not using heat. I love my mix.

Also, Ive seen shea at Whole Foods, but it wasnt unrefined, it seemed processed. I bought it and it was green and was kinda weird. I'm going to use all of it though, because it was kinda expensive. :ohwell:

I saw some shea butter at a big BSS in Pearland. It is on the same side of the street that HEB is on---in the next shopping center (Academy and Jamba Juice are in the same strip). I don't know if it was unrefined, though...

I've seen some at a Jamaican shop on Almeda in 3rd Ward or Midtown (whatever they are calling it). I think the place is next to the Reggae Hut. They sell Shea and Coco Butter. I'll follow up and report back with prices and exact location.

There is also an african shop next to Simply Scents by Shan ( candle shop) on OST and Scott area. The address is 3932 Old Spanish Trail
Suite A
Houston, Texas 77021

He has all kinds of butters, oils, and soaps if you are looking to buy local but the internet is cheaper.

Found a 16 oz Jar off of Ella and Airtex in North Houston. Paid about 9 bucks for it.

I've seen it a quite a few bss all over- there's one off jones road by highway 6. I'll try to remember some addresses...

Okay ladies I went to the shop near OST a couple weeks ago and purchased a HUGE jar for about $18. I also got some black soap.
When I run out (wont be for a while), I will try the shop near midtown and report back.
