what do you mean by "scab hair"
I had scab hair and then my true texture started to show over time. It has all been cut out now. It was just dry, fuzzy, undefined, unresponsive new growth. Supposedly relaxer residue in the scalp has an effect on the hair when it first grows out and makes it like that. Most people who have scab hair grow out of it after 6 months or so. I guess how much you will have depends on what your relaxing habits were. My hair's new growth looked very different when I was stretching/transitioning (I stretched my relaxers for maybe 2 or 3 years before I decided to stop relaxing all together) up until maybe 6 months after my bc. It looks a lot different now. It also feels different.
Some people do not believe in scab hair, and in most cases I've found that those people didn't experience scab hair. Maybe that's why they don't believe in it. Some people also think that the texture change is just a result of taking better care of the hair. But I don't think so.
Thank you for that thorough explanation, Glamazon. It makes sense.
I don't know whether I had scab hair or not but I can definitely say that the hair I had after my big chop is not the hair I have today. After my big chop my hair was dry, tangly and did not curl as much. I have now been natural almost a year and my hair now has curled up a whole lot more and is not as dry and hard to deal with as before.
