to flat iron your hair and get that smooth, silky, glossy effect (the look that when people look at you, they can't tell whether you're relaxed or natural)?:lick: What steps do you follow? Now that I've decided to go natural, I'd like to be able to achieve this effect, but only on special occasions.

Thank you!!!!

FI, I like your styled pics. I've never heard of the product, though. I'm going to flat iron my natural hair soon, so I'll be watching this thread for for more tips.

OT: FI, hook me up w/that honey in your avatar. I need a sugar daddy (to buy a new house for hubby and me).

I must add I did tex-lax about a month ago and left it in for 5 minutes.

So I'm not what you would consider 100% natural. BUT my hair is still very ummm kinky, curly, and coarse....LOL

Girl please.....his broke arse ain't paying no bills. You see he's still using the old school brick to make phone calls. I told him to upgrade that MESS!!!!

I must say I believe the secret it serum.

I just flat ironed my hair last weekend and I can't believe how silky it is. I shampooed and conditioned as normal. Then, added leave in (I used a little Protein Spray by Beyond the Zone and NTM Silk Touch). Added a little hair lotion (about a quarter amount to both sides), then added serum on both sides (about a quarter size). Let it air dry in two braids. Then I lightly blowdried it to ensure it was dry. Then I flat ironed. Unfortunately, my hair needs high heat to get straight so I used 400 with two very fast swipes after spraying Ion Heat protectant immediately before. I then add a little serum at night and either wrap and wear a high ponytail with a few rollers.

I used high heat as well but not daily. Once I flat iron, I'm done. To keep my hair styled, I'll roll it at night and remove in the morning using only light coconut oil on my scalp and ends.

That's right! No more heat. When I flat iron, I never do it once a week. I learned that IS too much for my hair. I will wear my flat iron for two weeks and then wear a roller set for a week and another roller set for a week and then flat iron so that I'm only flat ironing once a month which my hair can handle quite well.

At night, I wrap or roll adding a little more serum. NEVER more heat in between.

Wash and detangle as normal, airdry with a little WGO applied for about 30 minutes in fat twists. If I don't blow-FRY, I will make it a two-day process by allowing my hair to airdry overnight, in the twists. Then I prepare myself for about 2 hours worth of patience to take each twist down and maxiglide each section within a section, if that makes since. I haven't used any heat this year and only used it twice last year in Feb and March. I am moving further and further away from the blowfryer and the flat iron :). Hairlove I haven't seen your hair since late 2006! It looks great!

Thanks for all the replies ladies!!!! I don't intend to use heat much, but when I want to use it on special days, it's nice to know what works and what doesn't.

I use Aveda DR shampoo then alternate the DR conditioners. I always use heat to seal it in, then rinse, roller set, wrap, then flat iron. Roller setting first has been the key for me.

edited to add: after my hair is dry I add Vatika oil to my ends & around my hairline, great stuff!

well,

i just made a separate post about it -

but this stuff gave me a pretty great blowdry/flat iron session.

i'm quite pleased with my results.

usually after a heat session, my hair looks horrible
i think i did really good this time thanks to the organix vanilla silk blow dry cream.

i also used some CHI silk infusion before i used the heat

and a little grapeseed oil when i was all done

Thanks Micarae! And Congrats to you for heat-free styling! :)

Redken Heat Glide and Sedu..protects hair..excellent!! highly recommend..im on a twist challenge now.for the entire month of april. wish me luck..

I have an entry in my LHCF journal that talks about getting natural hair straight....I would cut and paste it but honestly Im feeling lazy right now :nono:

i use Silk Elements heat protectant spray... gives great shine, makes it easier to straighten IMO while also protecting. when i'm all done with my head i take a small palmful of WGO and gently smooth/rake it thru my hair for a little weight (otherwise my hair will get big and fluffy again) and i add just the teeniest bit of Aveda anti-humectant to my ends to keep them from reverting.

other than that, it's all about straightening technique to get good results. :yep:
