Slicking down Natural Hair

I have dense thick hair in the 4 family in the front and I have applied castor oil to my wet hair and put a scarf on for the smooth slick frizz free look. My I used the same technique on my step daughter who has 3ish hair.

I have also used Fantasia IC gel w/sparklelites (the clear one).

Hi my beautiful sister. Castor oil hands down! I sometimes saturate the hair with aloe vera first and then the castor. It looks as if I have JAM in my hair...God forbid!

Here's how I do it
  • Dampen or wet hair
  • Apply Cantu Shea Butter or Giovanni Direct
  • Seal with an oil... I'm using Blended Beauty Hair Oil
  • Wrap hair in satin scarf for 10 minutes
  • Good to go

what ever i use, mango butter has to be used in conjunction with it. aloe vera gel make it flat but not slick. usually fantasia ic blue or clear with mango butter makes my hair slick and no need for a scarf. i rember trying to slick it with castor oil and water. my hair was just oily and i had no slickage at all.:ohwell: just a different perspective though

Aloe vera gel. It's like thick water in a bottle to me. It also makes the waves more in sync... if that makes any sense.

I never thought of Aloe Vera Gel I'll have to try that...I was using TCB lite hair and scalp conditioner

NaturalGurl: love the hair
MissFadu: Like the new style cute!!

Purity, I'm LOVING the puff! I'm also loving that pic of Barack and Michelle. It's good to see that kind of love and support from a black perspective. The world sees the "First 48"(homicide reality show) of our side. They see us as domestic dispute people. Here's proof that we are not all alike!

Transformations Smooth Edges hair gel.

To me this works better than any gel on the market.

It sort of has the consistency of jam gel or other gels of that sort but it is not as watery and is a little thicker. A little goes a long way!

Ingredients: Water, Ceteareth-25, PEG-7 Glceryl Cocoate, Propylene Glycol, PEG-7 Hydrogenataed Castor Oil, DMDM Hydantoin (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance

Leave in conditioner plus dampen with wet hands and a scarf.
I can also use the dreaded black gel (Let's Jam), but it's too darn crispy

Right now I use a curly pudding from stinastina. There's no oil or pure butter by itself that can make my hair bow down:rolleyes:.

ITA 100%! :yep: The one-two punch of mango butter and Fantasia IC gel (the blue one) defeats the frizzies every single time. If I use one without the other though, I don't get a good result.

I think a lot of gels will work, but I like soft hair also (using gel alone makes my hair hard). If my hair is dry I apply Blue Magic's Coconut Oil and then Fruit of the Earth's 100% Aloe Vera Gel. Then I place a scarf on my head for about 15 minutes. If my hair is wet I apply shea butter mixed with Hot Six oil or shea butter mixed with 100% coconut oil (I'm guessing shea butter mixed with most oils would work as well) and then Fruit of the Earth's 100% Aloe Vera Gel. Then, I put on headband for about 15 miuntes. Both of these leave my hair soft as well.
