Sewn-in ladies! Is it safe to not use extensions in the cornrows underneath?

I am giving myself my own sew--in tomorrow. I am tired of paying 150 and I have seen the technique and now I am going to put it to use. However, I feel like my hair underneath might grow better without adding the extensions. However, I feel like my hair might be easier to loosen up when washed/wet because it is my real hair underneath. Please tell me what ya think??

Well i wear sewn ins also. I used both synthetic hair to help keep the braid and used my hair. I think that you hair is long enough and u dnt need the xtra hair. As long as your hair is braided secure enuff and you sew the braids properly u should be fine.

Thanx Classi, I think I might just add the extensions. Grrrr...I really thought you'd experience more growth without it. But I guess I dont have a choice...:perplexed

Thanx again...BUMPING

Please post pictures when your done. I don't use any added hair when my hair is braided and it stays pretty well. Maybe you can use human braiding hair.

Well great, this was my original question. I didn't want to have to use extra hair, in my braids...

I will definitely post pics...

You don't have to use it. When I do my own at home I don't use it. But I've found that the weave holds up better through washing with it. My braids would unravel in the middle without it. I think it's just because of my hair though. It always unravels once it gets wet.

Glamazon!! You know I was looking for you right...I shoulda sent you a Pm. The weave queen...

Thanx, I keep going back and forth, and now I realize that I am going to add the hair to my my braids. I don't want my hair unraveling when I wash it.

Thanx Ladies!!! I love LHCF

i just did my own dam sew in and let me tell you that i save a whole lot of cash . i always did the fullhead weave but after reading a few threads on BHM weaves forum I decided that I wanted a part in the middle and let me tell you that it looks so real . I cornrowed my own hair and boom that was that . I then sewd the long plaits down so they would not hang out and honey let me tell you my husband went to bed counting the monwy that I saved him . LOL
