I agree the hair typing thing is so weird. But I have heard that 3C's don't really show any new growth for about 2 or three months. The hair usually grows in straight and then it begins to wave after a couple months.

What you described sounds more like 4a hair, because you have so much relaxed hair weighing your own hair down, your new growth appears to be looser at this point.

I can understand this because when me temples came out from postpartum shedding and grew back. They grew back straight and stayed straight for two months and the third month it starts to turn up at the ends trying to make a curl. My 4a part starts being visible like at a month and a half maybe.

see what i mean??? ARRRRRRGH i don't care anymore. it's OS thready dammit... at least i know where i stand on the LOIS system! :lachen:

I think I'm somewhere in the type three range, but it confusing because as soon as my hair gets past apl (like now), the texture starts resembling something in the 2c/3a range. But the thing is even when its shorter in does NOT have "curls" or cute little corkscrews but s-waves that are big or small-as it gets weighed down by length the S's become less defined :

This when it was a few inches past SL-it's stretched out even more since then :perplexed. When transitioning, it took 6 months (about 3-4 inches) for a wave pattern to show up in the loosest section, while in the back it took no less than 3-but it was obviously getting longer :ohwell:

Thanks again ladies

Maybe you all can help me out.

I have always considered myself a 4b because I didn't have any defined curl pattern.

BUT

Lately, approaching week 11 in my stretch, I am seeing coils. In my crown it seems to be more of a wave up until you reach my crown roots, then its a curl. In other patches in my head I have some parts that still look 4b but others, when you stretch it slightly, you can see a defined curl. Atleast from what I am seeing now. I was planning on relaxing on March 10th at 12 weeks but from what I am gathering now, I will have to wait longer too really see what is going on.

I looked at my baby pics and I can't really tell now. I have NEVER noticed this before, it is throwing me off guard :perplexed I haven't done anything really different either. The only major difference in my regime is a weekly scalp massage with my Banyan Brahmi oil.

Could it be scab hair I am seeing that is looking and feeling like my patches of what I think is 4B and my true texture isn't exactly it?

Your hair sounds exactly like mine!
Seriously.
I thought all my life I was 4b,I never noticed a curl pattern either.
In my 26 week stretch I really got to see my textures and someareas on my crown are wavy, some have bigger curls,I still have what seems like 4b thrown in there and I have quite a few curls that are coffee stirrer size.I made pics of all textures and it's in my fotki if you want to take a look:yep:

sooooo does that mean some people have to stretch longer in order to see what their real hair type is?? :look:

Because this is my longest stretch so far, and my hairtype is also getting looser and more curly :ohwell:

My daugther is a 3C/3b here is her pics

Sorry she is a little bald here :nono: I dont have any recent pictures

Thanks Ella. I think we might be hair twins for real  I had my so's mom help me look at my scalp last night and she is seeing the same thing. So far it seems to be 3cish in the crown up to my temples, 4aish right behind my crown and 4bish on some parts of the sides. I was going to relax at week 12 but part of me wants to try to keep stretching to see what else is waiting to pop up and surprise me.

Same here,I was contemplating hard on my 26 week stretch to just keep stretching to learn more about my natchal hair.
I have some random waves on my crown next to 3c curls my temples are 4a my nape is a wierd mix of 4a and b and the rest of my head is..frizzy????:ohwell::lachen:

This was my hair exactly. I used to wonder how come so many people here were able to see all of this new growth in 8 weeks. At 8 weeks I could barely see a difference in texture. I used to think that my hair wasn't growing at all...:perplexed BTW I believe that I'm 3c. Pics are in my fotki.

I claim to be a 4a might even be a 4b because I look at textures like Cree Summer and the lady off of Half n Half and that's what I consider 3c and my hair is nothing like theirs, but I've had a few people question whether I'm a 4a or something else, I just don't know?

Frizzy, Poofy, Puffy etc...... All of the above  I have decided to try to keep going. The pic in my siggy is what I got the top to look like without a flat iron, just my rollers. I prepooed with hair mayo and I think that did the trick. I think I figured it out, use conditioner to weight down the roots before shampooing. I don't think I am as brave as you though...26 weeks:nono:
