Who stretches between perms with synthetic braids?

I Stretch with Synthetic twists. The last time I did a 6 month stretch. I Just started one this time for 3 months. I got good results.

I did this A LOT in junior high school. I wore braids like they were going out of style

My hair grew a lot doing that. Prior to wearing braids between perms my hair stayed at ear length. And in two years it grew to shoulder by wearing braids between perms.

I would moisturize with a braid spray every day and my mom would use a braid shampoo.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT PERM YOUR HAIR THE DAY AFTER YOU TAKE THE BRAIDS OUT. WAIT AT LEAST TWO WEEKSI DID NOT DO THAT AND ALL THE HAIR I GREW BROKE OFF. MY HAIR HAS NOT BEEN THE SAME SINCE. IF YOU HAVE TO DO A BLOW OUT

Sorry for the bolded but I lost so much hair because my hairdresser did not tell me to wait. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through that.

Good luck!

is this your first time doing this? Did you get good results before?
Yep, this is my first time wearing them this long.. Long before I wore them for about 2/3 months. I don't know what to expect but I'll know in a couple of months..

LOL ok! Thanks for the heads up!

I do, I get kinky twists to help me stretch.

For my last stretch, I wore kinky twists for 16 of the 32 week stretch.

This year, I am not relaxing at all. I'll be getting kinky twist 3 times for 3 months at a time, then relax in January 09, God willing.

I'm really interested in seeing my natural texture though. I'm thinking about wearing kinky twists for for 2 years, then cutting of old relaxed hair to start all over or just BC and go natural.

I dunno...we'll see!

Actually, I took my braids out Friday and did a hardcore protein treatment on Saturday. Then, I relaxed on Sunday and put large cornrows back in. I moisturize faithfully twice per day with S Curl. I figured since I'm t-laxed my hair should be fine.

do you always relax your hair before putting braids in? I dont think it's a good idea. But if you're texlaxed maybe it can work. Not sure. I was always told not to perm right before braids or right after.

Same here. My hair would be falling out all over the place if I did that. :nono:

How did you keep kinky twists that long? My edges would most probably be gone, and my kinky twists would be frizzy. I really want to know. I think they're sooo cute, but I had a bad experience with braids once so I'm really hesitant. I try to stick with cornrows nowadays, but I would definitely get kinky twists if I were able to manage them safely.

I've been doing this the last few touch ups and i've seen good results. it helps me stretch longer (about 16 or more weeks instead of my usual 12 without braids) and i get less breakage along demarcation line because it's protective and low mani style. and i can still wash and dc as normal.

pre-LHCF, I used to relax straight after taking out my braids or get braids straight after a touch up without any issues. But now i do make sure to leave some time before and after braids and do an aphogee treatment at least a week before relaxing.

I've done this every winter for years. I usually have braids for 2-3 months over winter.

Right now I am coming up to 6 months since my last relaxer. I've used synthetic braids, cornrows (with synthetic hair too) and weaves to help me along the way.

The only time I did twists (synthetic again), I saw sooooo much breakage. It was such a shame, because that was my favourite protective style.

I got mine done about 2 months ago and I just redid the front of it over the weekend which I think will be better for my sensitive hair line and also gives the appearance that these are fresh braids...and I'm saving a buck or two by not running back to the salon after 2 months to get the whole thing done over.

I do this too. in my teens used to have braids back to back and it wreaked havoc on my hairline. But now i redo my edges and make sure the hair is a bit bigger than the rest of my braids so the hair isn't too tight or weighed down by the synthetic hair.

I am currently c & g'ing!
I have grown my hair out w/braids for years, and have gotten stellar results in growth each time.
However, before c& g'ing i was not moisturizing or washing on the regular,so my hair would break off.
Now that i am c & g'ing i am still seeing great results that are now even better, and i get to keep my progress now!
Just stay with it and it'll be fine:yep:
