I think they look great. Seriously, I doubt the people at the shop could have done them much better. You saved yourself a lot of money. Wish I could do my own hair like that.

It is very nice Well done lady welcome to the DYers world

Yes, I love doing my own hair! And I saved a butt load of money (which is important to a broke college student :yep:). All I spent was $45 for the hair. The Africans charge at least $180.

...and thanks everyone!!

WOW this is great!! :yay: I wish I could do this on my own..!!

Your eyes and your earrings are gorgeous!!

Thanks chica! Yes, im an earring fanatic! I got these from forever21.com for like $4!!

And valleyval, I liked that I could actually sleep on my head when I was finished, cuz when I went to the shop, I literally couldnt sleep right for at LEAST 2 days, head was hurting so bad :nono:

They look very nice. Just keep an eye on your hairline: the minute they start to feel loose, redo them so they don't break your hair. But you seem to be already ahead in that game from the way you've styled them. There's hardly any stress put on the braids at the perimeter. You go girl!

They lool really good...i just did my over the weekend. I will be glad when i get mine to look like yours, yours are sooo small. I don't have the patience to do them that small....here is a pic, what do you think?

(inspired by TSUPrincess's thread )

So I decided to get braids and usually I would go to the African shop and get it done, but for the past 3 times, I decided to do them myself. I think I'm getting better each time.

Anyway, it took me 2 days to complete (although I did take a MASSIVE amount of breaks), and I used 2 packs of human braiding hair in wet and wavy. SOoooo, what do yall think??

(sorry 4 tha big pics)

Aww, I like! Especially how u have it curly, great job!

And yea, mine are small, but nowhere near as small as if the shop were to do em. Here's a lil trick I did....the braids in the back and middle, I made them about 1.5X larger than the ones in the front. That saved a lot of time. Also, I sectioned my hair into 4 squares and worked on one square @ a time, I swear it makes it a lot easier, and faster and shows progress quickly so you dont feel like you're braiding forever.

That is a great idea to to section it off in 4's...i will have to try that next time.... It took me 12 hours to finish mine

Yeah, sectioning not only helps me notice the progress I'm making but also helps me gauge how well I'm using the extension hair and that I won't run out before I'm done. I usually part in diamond shapes so I first part the whole head into 4 by creating two diagonal parts. Then I put the front and side sections into 3 square plaits so I can focus on the back. I also part the extension hair into sections. While this is also helpful in making sure you don't run out of hair, I do it more importantly in order to avoid wasting the extension. I find that pulling the hair I'm going to use from a smaller bunch than from the entire bunch leads to very little tangling and hence hardly any wasted hair.

Aww, you did a GREAT job. They look so nice and neat.

I tell you one thing. We sure do have some talented members here.
