I know what she means even tho she didn't say it very well. Having had natural hair most of my adult life I must admit I find telax hair easier.

I also didn't think her hair looked that bad. It's thin, but that might be because she has naturally thin hair.

Anybody find the video she's responding to? I like to hear what ol' dude said. :yep:
She sounds more like she was defending her choice to relax than trying to down natural hair.

I have to agree. This was not a bash naturals video. This was a "its ok to be permed video." Sometimes people with permed hair have to defend their choice to perm. People with permed hair are often thought of as trying to be white or Euorpean, but why can't I just like the way straight hair looks on me? I agree she went about it the wrong way. Some people don't know how to support their own actions without criticizing someone else's. I too would like to see the original video.

I just watched dude's video... :

He has a right to his opinion but, WHAT... EEEEEVER!

People do stuff to their hair to look good or be unique and sometimes to make a statement. Who is he to interpret our identity based on hair. WHATEVER!

And not to throw stones, but I thought he was rather tacky. A woman who is secure in herself is beautiful no matter what's on the top of her head.

Can you post his video? I'm curious...

Trust me Anky, it was an insult. Poor thing, she is misguided and mis informed. Someone needs to enlighten the poor girl.:lachen:

I see what yall mean - She is defending her choice to be relaxed while showing how ignorant she is about natural hair. It's another relaxed v. natural debate between her and some guy - nothing new. But she did make herself look stupid. The main thing that got to me was that she is from Africa and obviously very ignorant about her own culture. She was putting down her own people, people in tribes, etc. saying negative things about their hair. I am tired of natural hair being considered uncivilized and relaxed hair being considered as the rational choice for the modern civilized woman.

The maint point of it wasn't to bash natural hair but her comments about nappy hair were a little offensive. She did say "aint nothing cool about nappy hair".:ohwell:

hahaha she talking nonsense..i think its funny when people say such ignorant stuff like they really know what they talkin about. natural hair is not hard to take care of

I disagree, I do not think she was trying to offend anyone or be ignorant intentionally. She was responding to another video left by someone else who she deemed as very ignorant. Basically what she is trying to say is that there is more than one form of beauty in the world. Even though she down played women who like to wear their hair natural, I think that was more to defend herself and other ladies like me and some of you's who do like to wear their hair straight by way of a relaxer. What I think she meant is that women in general are beautiful and should be considered beautiful no matter how they wear their hair. Whether they are bald, natural, permed, jerry curl, weaved up, braided up etc., we should all be considered beautiful and it should not matter how we wear our hair.

D@mn at some of the comments to her video:nono: They make black women look a thousand times worse than the most f*cked up relaxed, weaved or natural "styles" out there. We (as black women in general) need to learn how to educate and uplift without tearing people down in the process. Sheesh!

Her video made my head hurt!! I'm shocked and a little disgusted. She made African people seem "un-kept":nono:. Who is she to judge? I posted a comment...I wanted to give her this website so that she could get her mind right!

i made a comment listing a link to our site, but youtube will not let you post links. so i dropped the ".com" lol. hopefully she will understand it or at least look it up and come visit. wisdom is the best weapon against ignorance

Mshotnizz, you beat me to it!:lachen:

ITA...I personally think the reason she said " aint nothing coo about nappy hair and all the other negative comments is because she was frustrated, upset and nervous...yall seen them beads on her forhead...that's why she kept wiping her head.....she wanted to defend her side but she just didntknow how to do it w/o making herself look stupid...this was not an attempt to bash naturals...IMO:yep:

Yeah...when you're nervous, it is really hard to defend your points. When I get nervous, I say things that I don't realize I do.

I wasn't commenting on the video specifically. Just in general.

ITA! Some of those comments on the MN article were OUT OF CONTROL!

DAMN DAMN DAMN!!! Those comments were like woah. Wow...just wow. :ohwell: She is a beautiful girl, she should lose the contacts and stop perming her hair to high hell. I really couldn't take this video as an insult, but I do think she is young and ignorant in this respect. She has some growing to do mentally...

She's inarticulate but I don't think she meant to be offensive.

Her overall point is that nappy hair is hard to maintain. For some people that is going to be true. We're on a board that's 50% permed, so it's not like she's alone in the view.

I'm relaxed (and alot of girls I know are relaxed) and I don't relax because I think natural hair is hard to maintain (and my girls agree with this), its because its takes more time to do (as far as styling)... we live in a fast paced lifestyle and its quicker to just bump your ends with a flat iron a little and just go. And with the daily washes and co washes we do, we would have to spend a little longer doing it if we were natural when time is very limited for us. So this is why I can't agree with the girl making this video. Never once did I say to my self, "I'm sick of this nappy stuff, let me relax"... its all about time. Now if I wasn't going to school and working, I would love to deal with my natural hair... but let me just enforce this clearer, if you know how to take care of your hair, its not harder to deal with natural hair, it just takes a little longer ( depending on the person, length, etc.) Remember, I'm speaking on behalf of my girls and I. I just don't think a statement saying 50% of girls on the fourm agree with the girl on the video is a fair statement. :ohwell: It sounds really judgemental.

Thank you so much for this. I agree completely. I don't see anything wrong with being natural or relaxed. I think its a choice based on one's lifestyle. It does seem like I often times have to defend being permed. Alot of people don't realized that we sometimes get critized too. I'm glad you added this. I'm very happy.

I think it is ok if she wanted to defend relaxed hair. But did she really have to say those things about natural hair. This could been handled in a much much much better way.

Exactly!!! It's ok to want to defend relaxed hair. But just because you choose to keep your hair relaxed doesn't mean you have to insult natural hair. She sounds very ignorant and immature.

I agree with you. I wasted 5 minutes watching her lame video and she wasn't making any kind of sense to me at all. Just a lot of cursing and bashing. Those colored contacts have to go. And that part about her having really long hair when she was a kid kind of bewildered me.

That is what I take issue with. She didn't have to use that kind of language to get her point across. I don't remember hearing the guy using curse words. Also the long hair comment was :spinning:. How can she blame the loss of all that hair on moving away to another city? Seems to me that she abused the relaxer instead of taking care of her hair properly. If she did, she would have long, thick, relaxed hair instead of the thinning strands she's wearing now. I agree that her hair doesn't look THAT bad, but the way it looks now and the reason that it looks that way has nothing to do with where you move if you don't learn the proper techniques to take care of it. I understand that weather, hard water, etc. will take a toll on your hair, but she failed to mention that as a child her mother (or another adult) took care of it which contributed to the thick head of hair she had. And she also needs to take into account that relaxing her hair earlier than you are supposed to doesn't help either . Of course, she didn't mention that but it could be a factor in her case.

To all the ladies that think her hair doesn’t look bad, sorry that is a mess. Her hair is chewed up, over processed and full of grease. So many women have the same problem and I wish they would come to LHCF, but that does not excuse the fact that her hair is a mess by our standards here on the board. She needs to work on her relaxed hair before she can defend it. I would rather someone else choose to “defend” relaxed hair, because just by looking at hers, she is proving why you should NOT relax.
