I have highlights in my hair that are growing out...while in the "Indian Store" I saw some Jamilia Henna and picked it up...but Im scared to use it. Can I use it and if so, how do I use it? I dont want BLACK hair though...Im too scared with my skin-tone I will look washed out! :lachen:

Henna = red, esp. if you have BAQ (Body Art Quality) Henna, which is all I would suggest using on your head.

If you have highlights, they will turn a reddish color - it'll be darker red the longer you leave the henna on.

If you are using pure henna, there is no chance of your hair going black.

If you want to use it, I would suggest mixing the powder with an equal amount of hot water, and allowing it to sit for at least 2 hours. Then, add an equal amount of a cheapish conditioner - maybe something in the back of the cabinet that you want to use it. Apply to hair, leave in for at least 1, and up to .... well, the longest I've left it on has been 36 hours.

Rinse out well, condition, and enjoy!

:yep: My grown out highlights came back to life after I henna'd. They're a nice burgandy color now which looks much more natural. The only thing is, once you henna you can't go back to highlights :ohwell:.

Okay...so my hair shouldn't fall out right?! :lachen: My highlights are Copper...I just don't want my hair to be fire engine red thats all! I don't know if I have body art henna but I have Jamilia Henna...which the Indian lady at the store told me it was the best kind... would you agree?? :ohwell: And I can't go back to highlights??? Ever??? So the pros of henna out way the cons I guess?

henna's 100% natural, so it won't damage your hair or make it fall out (unless you're allergic, but that's another story)

copper highlights, hmm? obviously they'll end up lighter than the rest of your hair... it would be a good idea to harvest some shed hair (both highlighted and non-highlighted), to test and see what color they actually become.

henna's pretty unpredictable-- the end result will be dark reddish (and bright when in the sunlight), but it's hard to say exactly what shade :drunk:

Oh gosh! I'm not even gonna front ladies!!! I'm SCURRED! I've heard so many great things about henna and how it strengthens the hair, but DANG! :lachen: Red hair is cute on SOME people...but It's just not me lol!

This is only my second post, but I have been lurking here for months...Kind of OT, but still regarding henna on processed hair (so not really): I also need to cover my gray and was wondering if the Henna was safe to use on relaxed hair. I read somewhere that you should not use "compound" henna (the henna found in most stores) on chemically processed hair, but "body quality art" henna. Therefore, I am not sure if this includes highlights or not. I don't really know the difference btw the two types of henna, but I am sitting here looking at this box of Jamilia henna from the Indian store and I am a little petrified :perplexed to be honest...I think I am going to chalk this $4 I spent up to a loss :wallbash: and go with the Dominican colorshowers...:ohwell:

Your color will probably come out similar to mine. I had copper with a few blonde streaks...I also use Jamila (good stuff) :yep:. It won't be bright red since your color isn't blonde. I'm hooked, does wonders on the hair.

I guess you have to grow out the henna before getting any type of permanent color application...so you can go back, eventually :perplexed

I'm sorry to have not been clearer - I was speaking intially towards henna making your hair black.

Jamilla Henna IS an excellent, BAQ henna.

Henna color is permanent - you can go darker over it, but not lighter.

Ohhhh ur hair is purty!!! :yep: I was like SHOOT I don't mind having her color!
And thanks girl for clarifying! I was sooo scared I was gonna have that Fire Engine red!

So I just mix the whole box with some hot water and put it on dry hair?

Thanks girl, cuz I was hoping I got the right kind!

As long as your hair is, yeah, I would mix up the whole box. Use enough to get your hair saturated, and you can just freeze whatever is left over... :yep:

This just made me bust out laughing how you worded that LOL :lachen::lachen: Would you believe I'm even MORE corn-fused than you are?? I don't even KNOW how to pick a henna geeeeesh. But I did read through this thread and kinna figured I can't even use it to lighten my hair if I wanted? Am I correct, someone? Is there one to LIGHTEN the hair? Ohhhh someone please tell me there's a way to do it naturally!:prettyplease::prettyplease:

BWHAHAHAHA! I don't know why this had me crackin' up! :lachen:

I've used henna 3 times inside of the last four weeks and I LOVE IT! It's made my hair thicker and stronger. I started with a henna gloss because I was too scared to use it straight. I mixed it with a lemon juice, honey, water, and a good bit of conditioner. I let it sit and then I put it on my hair for a few hours. The end result was grand. It sounds difficult but it's really not once you get the hang of it.

Jamilla is GREAT. I've been very satisfied with my results. Jamilla is a henna that I didn't have to sift at all. It's very easy to blend with other ingredients and rinse out. I used co-washes when rinsing and it allowed me to rinse thoroughly. I follow up with a DC and my hair is grand (for the time being lol.)

My hair hates color/dye so this is a safe way to get color with the benefits of a relaxed curl pattern on my new growth, extra conditioning, and strength!:yep: It won't lighten per se, but it will give you a reddish hue (depending on your extra ingredients) :)

Okay I'm def. on board! Yay! But I usually DC on dry hair first then use a Shakakai paste to "wash" my hair. Do I do that first THEN henna or do I henna first, rinse, then get out the shower and start my regimen??

I would DC, then henna, and skip the shikakai..... then do the usual next week/wash....

Oh okay! I was just confused because I wasent sure if I could henna on wet or dry hair...

I've done it either way, depending on what I was doing to my hair before I henna'd - it's usually damp though, because I try to DC beforehand.

From what I understand you can do it on both dry or damp but I've only used it on dry hair. I put a cheapie conditioner in and let it dry then I henna later. HTH

:scratchch I tend to save my DC for the very end after henna. When I rinse out henna, it feels like I've done a hardcore Aphogee treatment :nono:. So, I usually DC for a long time after rinsing henna/washing hair. IMHO
