Highlights/Color over Henna?

Have any of you applied permanent color or highlights to your hair when you were also using henna? I have heard that this can cause damage and breakage. If you have done this how did it turn out? Did you suffer any damage? I have fine hair so I usually do a henna gloss once per month but I want to get some highlights.

I did it and I see very little damage, however I colored my hair so when I hennaed again i get a really nice red color.
