I read somewhere online that you can exfoliate your scalp using epsom salt. I dont remember where I saw it. Ill be back and hopefully with a link. Have any of you ladies exfoliated your scalp? If you have how, and what are the benefits?

I've heard of epsom salt being used as an exfoliator on feet but have never heard of it being using on the scalp though. Hmmm:perplexed, just makes me wonder.

Sounds painful to me.:nono: Epsom salt is pretty coarse. Brown sugar might work as the crystals are finer.

I use brown sugar+nubian silk conditioner(or whatever I am currently trying to use up)

works nice:lick:

I just use my nails. I like to make sure my scalp pores are not clogged with dirt and product build-up. To me a healthy scalp = healthy hair.

Hmm-so I wonder if scritching or simple head scratching counts as exfoliation. I would love to exfoliate-it'd probably feel great too. I'm thinking of mixing sugar with a conditioner as well and applying with a soft toothbrush on the parts. OR maybe using baking soda and jojoba since it mimics sebum:think:

I purchased product from Trade Secret by bain de terre called "Sugar & fig scalp massage scrub. I haven't used it yet, but plan on using it this weekend. This is what is written on the box:

Natural sugar gently exfoliates dulling impurities, dead skin cells and product build up from the hair and scalp, while easily dissolving to rinse cleanly.

I just did this saturday before washing my hair. I used brown sugar with grapeseed and olive oil added to it. Usually I add some conditioner to it. I like both mixtures.

Sounds great! Does it say how to apply it-I guess maybe parting the hair and applying directly to the scalp. I'm trying to avoid a mess here but I can see it coming. Ooh and Coffee, does it contain any oils and if so what?

Okay now I'm definitely using sugar and oils:yep: How'd you put it on Mahoganee?? Details please : )

I'm definitely going to try this because I have scalp itchies that I can't get rid of and I think that maybe exfoliating will help.

Ooh, do tell how it works for you once you give it a spin!

ElleDoll.. have you noticed a difference in your scalp and/or hair?
Yes.I mostly do it after a few days after I straighten my hair b/c this is when I have the most dandruff/buildup.I like to do it beofre I clarify.

It really helps "loosen" things up and it feels great.I haveoticed I don't have dandruff as much.

thanks.. Elle Doll,
So I tried it but I had some difficulty getting through my new growth I mixed brown sugar with vo5 conditioner it was hard getting through my scalp. I am going to try again after my touch up

Hey if I remeber correctly you can use brown sugar. I got that from motown girls website.

Yeah I read that too and am dying to try it, but I'm hesitating b/c of residues it might leave on my scalp and what that might lead to:ohwell:

I also have this product by Oscar Blandi, but have never used it, it's supposed to exfoliate the scalp, it has a strong minty smell&beads.

I was thinking about the toothbrush as well, because I read that somewhere on the internet. It was actually a brush specially made for scalp... I like to have a clean scalp, but I don't think I will go that far...too lazy :lachen:

I tried the epsom salt thing-- it felt pretty nice. The little salt granules kept rolling off though, so it was kind of messy that way. I didn't dilute it much though; I just stirred in some coconut & tea tree oil. It did feel nice though, I will be doing this on a regular (or semi-regular) basis, once I find a better mix for it.

You can also exfoliate your skin with it.

I just started doing this with a soft bristle toothbrush - i haven't done it long enough to see results but I like the clean feeling afterwards. I just dip my toothbrush in the shampoo + baking soda mix and softly exfoliate my scalp. I may also add peppermint too. I sometimes use condish too.
