I know yall are like "this chic just popped up on thescene and is posting every five minutes!" LOL, sorry yall! I've been out of the loop for a minute and my hair has PAID for it!

So I'm about to do cleanse w/Shikakai but don't know exactly what the heck to do! I think I've dont it all! I have some in a pot that I boiled about 2 hrs ago. Is this a tea? If I use it that way, would I just stand in the shower and pour it through? Do I need to strain it first?

Should/can I make it a paste? If I do this, would I be just applying it and letting it sit like henna? No manipulation? Also, am I only applying to the scalp or the whole hair shaft? Do I let it sit?

Can I add a drop or two of clarifying shampoo (I've got some cone buildup) or do you think the shikakai alone will get rid of it?

I've used it before and although it was cleansing it was very drying. I think I did it wrong and don't want to do that again! Yall help me out!
Please reply, I'm going to do this in about an hr or two!

I know there's a ton of Ayurvedics out there, help me!

P.S.- I also slathered the Vatika on last night but its all absorbed so I'll put more before I cleanse.

Thanks!

Hi Kamilah, and welcome! :hiya:

I think you're not getting a lot of replies because there are already 50-11 threads on ayurvedic herbs. If you search for shikakai, the most recent posts will pop up first. If you post in one of those threads, our resident ayurveda experts will no doubt come to your rescue.

On another note, I'm not sure natural herbs will be able to clarify synthetic silicones.

Good luck!

 Hi! Welcome!

I have never prepooed w/Vatika. I have only used Amla oil or olive oil as a prepoo. Sorry. However, I find it interesting that ur hair "soaked up" the Vatika. Is it Vatika oil? Is ur hair completely dry now or is it still somewhat coated with the oil?

I don't think that the shikakai will clarify ur hair at all. :nono: It kind of leaves a coating on it.

I just used my shikakai shampoo bar today for the first time. (I have the powders, but I didnt use them yet. ) Great results   I applied the shampoo mostly to my roots, but a little on my hair shaft too. Now, I can see that shikakai is not bad for the hair shaft AT ALL. :)

Sorry that I am not more help!

I agree with MissTress...here are some threads where you can find more than enough info on many Ayurvedic herbs and how to use them:

These threads are full of information.

To answer your specific questions, I prefer doing tea rinses over pastes. It takes forever to get the paste out of my hair. The mixture that you have sitting in your pot is fine. If you have amla or ritha, you can add some of that to it. If not, then it's ok.

Strain this mixture first. Then add a cup of coconut oil and mix (or amla oil, or any ole oil you have laying around the house, it doesn't matter!).

If you feel that your hair needs clarifying, go ahead and clarify first. Then pour the tea rinse over your hair and scalp whilst in the shower. Let this sit for a minimum of 45 minutes. Do not try to manipulate the hair while the mixture is in your hair. Just let it sit, the shikakai will do all the cleansing :yep: Then rinse with warm-hot water for at least 5 minutes and deep condition.

I find that when I add these teas to oiled hair, it prevents the dryness.

I hope this helps!

Hey, how would I use the shampoo bar to apply it to my roots? I would think that I would have to lather the soap on my hands and then apply it to my hair but how would I be able to concentrate mainly on my roots? Thanks.
