Anyone here can't self relax?

I have finally learned how to self relax! The biggest difference for me was making sure I had clarified my hair 3-5 days prior! Also I switched brands, used to use Motions now I use Affirm. I also use a pastry bag to apply, not that I think that was the difference but it made me realize that when I was using my fingers I wasn't applying enough creme. I would rather have a stylist relax me, but honestly that is what drove me to master the technique.

In Aug, my last stylist t/u, I was very overprocessed and the corrective was a DISASTER. The result being ends that have turned red on my naturally dark brown hair- the good news is that the roots are coming in nicely and the inches that I have processed look very health compare to the overprocessed ends.
 
Sweets you're definately not alone on this one. I don't even bother to try because i don't trust myself to get it right :nono:. I have this one stylist and even though she's quite a distance away from me, i trust her alone to get the job done right without her preaching to me how much i need to CUT CUT CUT.
 
Ive never self relaxed in my life. I'd be terrified I'd end up bald. My grandmother always sent me to a salon when i first started relaxing at 13. I begged and begged to get a relaxer. And she said she'd let me but i had to go to a salon so a professional could do it right.
 
I needed to read this thread. I self relaxed for about 4 relaxers last year before I (somehow) burned my sideburns off....yep :ohwell:. That scared me to death and I went to my stylist 8 weeks ago and again today for my touch-up. The first one was ok. Today, she overlapped so badly that I can actually feel that my hair is weakened. I am going to spend the next 8 weeks reading all I can about self-relaxing --- I am going to take it seriously, treat relaxer like a chemical, and figure it out. I can overlap by myself. :nono:

CONGRATS hun! It is very empowering once you conquer it. I recently had 2 successful self-relaxers. Affirm works well for me too. You should have tutorial in your fotki, on the pastry bag technique...'cause I'm intrigued.
