what do you like about being natural?

I love that "revert" is no longer a word in my vocabulary. I don't have to stretch, I don't have to deal with any of the pains of getting my hair relaxed. And I still have as many styling options as before when I was relaxed. In fact I have more, because it's not really possible to get an afro or afro puff on relaxed hair. I've been natural for a year and a half.

ITA Dee Raven  I love being able to get up and go. :weird: Also my scalp is a lot healthier and for some strange reason, my hair is growing hella fast!!!

I like that my hair is "juicy" and squeezable. I can also rock it many different ways from a puff to a rollerset to a press, to cornrows, twists , twistouts- flat twists and never really haing a bad hair day since I learned to take care of it. I've been natural since 1/2000.

I've been natural for almost 2 months now. I love the way my hair feels and can't keep my hands out my hair. I like the flexibility of it even though it's short. Also it appears to be growing so fast!

I love the versatility of natural hair. I can wear a wash and go and the next day it can be straight. Also I love not having to worry about getting a perm. And I don't have to worry about my hair getting wet in the rain or humidity. I've been natural for about 2 years.

I like that it's thicker than my relaxed hair, and it's versatility. I can rock a press, braids, twists, twist-out, puffs, afro. I've been natural 2 years.

My last relaxer was in 2004 and I did the big chop in July 2005.

The number one thing I like about being natural is that my hair is healthier, longer and stronger than it was when I relaxed it. And I also like not having to deal with touch ups and chemicals.

Don't ask me why I'm in here even though I'm not natural :look:...just takin a quick peek...:peek2:

This thread is making me want to transition, for real...:spinning::lick::grin:

I love my hair natural. It really shows the beauty, shine and thickness of my hair. I went natural in 1986 and then went back to perms in 1992 then back to natural in 1994.

I just feel so free. No more scalp burns for me. With my relaxed hair I was always "hiding" my hair in wigs, weaves and protective styles. I can actually enjoy my hair now.

My last relaxer was May 2006. I BCed August of last year.

I love that my hair is much thicker/healthier now. B/C I didn't really trust self-relaxing, I was a slave to a stylist. Well guess what, Ize free now!

Its simplicity. Its versitility. The way it feels when I sink my fingers into it. The way it turns into tiny perfect circles on the shower walls (though I do be cussing trying to wash them off!) The density - it feels ALIVE. It makes me feel proud, oddly enough. It's unabashedly constantly beautiful, without needing to be changed, and I can't say that about any other part of me, with honesty.

*smiles* I love my hair.

That was hauntingly poetic and very moving. Thanks i needed that.:notworthy

I feel like my hair gives new meaning to the word PARADISE ever since I went natural. That's how much I love it.

i love the thickness, health & versatility of my natural hair. it's soft, squishy, and touchable:grin:. now if only it grew faster & didn't shrink so much, i'd have no complaints:lachen::look:, but even still i'm in love:yep::yep::yep:.

*I just did the BC - end of Dec 07 but I've been growing the natural hair I have now since Jan 07.

Hmmm, what I love about being natural is that my hair is full, thick and there's less breakage. I love the way it coils and springs up into shrinkage after washing my hair, hiding its actual length. Plus I love my coils!!

I've been completely natural for less than a month but I transitioned for about 22 months. My favorite thing about being natural is that I can style my hair in any style I want and I like that I don't have to sit and get a relaxer every 3 months or so.

Wooo! I'm glad all of you ladies are posting your comments about the pleasures of being natural. My transition is getting really hard and I needed to read all of these positive comments.

I'm struggling with these 2 textures!

My last relaxer was around april or may of 2005.

I love the fact that:

-I can do the same styles I did when I was relaxed, and they actually come out even better now that I'm natural

-My hair has so much versatility

-When I use to imagine myself 5-10 years later (when I was relaxed), I always envisioned myself with huge amel larrieux type hair. Now I know that this is more than a possibility, it will probably be a reality.

-My curls feel incredibly healthy and the natural-looking styles that I attempted on my hair when relaxed, my hair naturally does

As you can tell, I love my hair alot :spinning:

I like my curlies! I like that my hair is finally healthy and I have the option to wear it in natural styles or straight styles. And everything in between. I've been natural a little over a year. And relaxer free almost 2 years (In April).

I love the texture
I love how my hair loves water
I love how when I tie my hair up at night, I don't have to sleep cute
I love the versatility
I love how low maintenance it can be

I agree with a few other people in saying they like the versatility that being natural offers.
I rock a fro one day, and when I wear my hair straight people swear I look like a completely different person.

I love the thickness of my hair. I actually like the thickness in my big shower braids. I like that it makes me different.

I would love to say that it saves me a lot more money than when I was relaxed but this site turned me into a little PJ when I first got on here!
I'm alright now though. lol!

It's funny that I always tell people or focus on how hard it is being natural and how much I would love to just smack a relaxer in it, but the truth is the exact opposite.

Nice thread.

oh yeah, I've been natural since the end of 2001. :look:
