Yaaaay, I'm not alone here~I'm in Novi :))

Question: Do any of u'guys have a particular Aveda Salon u go to?

I've been searching around for someone who I feel comfortable with, who can relax, trim and highlight my hair and is NOT scissor happy, does not have u waiting in the salon for 4-6hrs then expect a hefty tip :yep: Any suggestions? Or even someone else that focuses on Healthy Hair?

TIA

Cid~

I'm in Detroit.

We just had a Metro-Detroit meet-up at Lucky Strike (Lucky's) in Novi last Saturday. Check out the area meetings forum periodically for notices.

Hi...
I don't know of any Aveda salons that could handle black hair in the Detroit area(if you are ever in Chicago though, go to Eshe on 8 Michigan Ave and get Darnesha), but if you are looking for hair healthy in Detroit, try Culture Blur. It's in Detroit, and the owner is amazing (David). I lived in Michigan for 8 years, went to him a long time ago (should have never stopped), and was able to track him down and started going again early this year...he was so good that even after I left MI, I went back 2x to get him to do my hair(most recently in July).
It's on Schaeffer just north of McNichol...I hope it's still there. It was pretty new when I was going, only about a year old. Don't be fooled by the simple decor. You will LOVE your hair if you go there. He is truly a bomb stylist and he is all about healthy hair (313) 340-2025
If that number doesn't work, let me know...a friend was able to find him for me once, so if he's moved on to something else, maybe I can find him again.

I went to one new stylist after I moved south(KY but I miss Detroit) and she RUINED my perfect hair by being an impertinent idiot...nothing is worse than a stupid person who thinks she is being clever(in her case, by applying relaxer on top of my already relaxed hair while she had me turned away from the mirror, b/c she decided that my hair was so thick that it wasn't properly processed). So I really want to go back there to get started over.

I'm so glad someone started this thread. Can someone please tell me what it like living in Michigan --- especially Detroit.

I'm thinking about going to grad school in Michigan (no idea where yet) and I just want some insight as to what it's like living there. I'm from California so I already know about the weather difference, but what else is there to know?

A WHOLE LOT....

Come for grad school ONLY if the program is the TOP in the respective field; you are on FULL SCHOLARSHIP, if you have RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION.... otherwise, you may not adjust well....

For the record, I can make Michigan look real good, too, but since you're from California, my niece went to Cali for college and she almost didn't move back home for the weather alone....

In addition to what everyone else has said, I had a friend from CA that came to Detroit for college and HATED it. He especially hated the weather. He did one semester and moved back to Cali. I lived in Detroit for 18 years and then moved to ATL. I have NO plans on EVER moving back. It would be something very drastic to cause me to move back.

Thank you ladies for responding so quickly. I didn't realize this was a topic in the hair forum so please excuse me mods. (I just did a general search for 'Michigan')

...I know that the auto industry is leaving, so how is Michigan economically? I work foreclosures part-time and I've had close to 100 pre-foreclosures and foreclosures hit my desk between the end of November up until today.
