Look at this shedding. I can't believe it. I've tried garlic shampoo and I don't know what else to do.

Click on the little dot to see the pic, I'm not sure why it is so small.

If you're doing low manipulation that's a normal amount. Friday was only a few days ago though. Try an egg with fermodyll 619 treatment. This is good for reducing shedding I've heard. Also instead of Garlic Shampoo try the Alter Ego Garlic treatment - this will decrease the shedding. You can get it at ibeautyny.com. HTHs

Sunshine....what was your diet like 4 months ago if you can remember.

Sometimes we don't eat enough protein, it can trigger more shedding a couple of months later by forcing our hair into the shedding phase faster than we expect.

Try henna. Unless you want dreadlocks, you have to comb it. I went a little too low-manipulation and ended up with locs that I had to cut.:nono:

Will do. Thanks!

Girl, I have no idea. But, it may be due to the BC I started 4 mos. ago. I switched recently, so I was hoping that would slow it down.

Thanks girl. Henna gave me dreadlocks the one time I used it. Henna will not touch my head unless I let one of you experienced folks do it.

Ok, I need some scale here. The hair--was it on an 8" by 11" piece of paper (as it appears to be)? And if so, did it actually cover most of it (as it seems to)?

If so, there is no way that it is normal to lose that much hair in just two days. If not, then please explain, by comparing it to something in size, about how much hair that is.

No, it was on a paper towel. I had to crop the pic to get it to post here. The hairball is the size of my palm, medium density, and about 1/2 inch tall.

ETA: I have a man-sized palm. I'm 6ft.

Im def low manipulation when it combs to combing my hair..i usually attempt to because i hate tangles and i get tired and frustrated having to deal with it..but i think that is a normal size dont worry.:-) happy hair growing

Everybody's shedding is different. Depending on the length of hair and how long you have gone without combing it you will have more or less. That amount of shed hair looks normal to me. Also, different times of the year causes more or less shedding. Does your hair seem thinner? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes, it is starting to thin out. I actually found a bald spot about 15 minutes ago where my soft spot used to be. I wonder am I developing male pattern baldness. The top of my head is kind of sore and thinner than the rest actually.

Have you changed your reggie at all? Are you using any growth aids? Have you traveled lately?

Not anything major. I did use garlic shampoo once I noticed an uptick in the shedding. I haven't done any special traveling. I have been under incredible stress this year and I started bc. Maybe I need to go to a derm.

Are you using any NEW products? The above sounds like your scalp does not like something NEW.

How are you styling your hair day-to-day? I found that I must switch up my braids/plaits to avoid stress at the same partings week-from-week.

Are these shedded hairs with bulb attached or broken strands?

If they are broken strands - then you need to extra gentle when detangling.

If the bulbs are attached with a low mani routine then you are just losing the regular amount, but since you are combing seldomly- it looks like alot at one time.

What kind of comb are you using-?

But based on your observations- that amount is appropriate- we still do
function like animals and shed hair in the winter so that denser hair can come in.

Maybe your tex-lax was overprocessed?
I'm not judging just throwing it out there . I don't comb my hair with a comb at all. I see maybe 20-25 hairs when I co wash. I also really do deep condition and pre poo and everything cause with my dyed hair it'll pop off if its not kept moist. The breakage looks like my daughters hair did when she let some one of her girlfriends texturize her hair when she was 16.

When was the last time you combed before Friday? You may be dealing with overlapping shed hairs (some from last week and some from this week). I've been doing low manipulation for about 4 months and early on I realized I wasn't spending enough time getting the shed hairs out after detangling. Just detangling isn't enough. After detangling, spend a few minutes combing small sections to extract as many shed hairs as possible. After I've run the comb through I also gently pull the ends with my fingertips to see if there are any loose hairs I could pull out.

If you get most of the shed hairs out you'll have fewer tangles and fewer shed hairs next time.

Sunshine, are u still on Yaz?
If so...u might wanna stop for a couple months and see if this shedding subsides....it seems like thats the only thing different ur taking in...if it doesnt subside...it might be the stress....im sorry ur going thru this sweetie...and really hope u resolve this...it makes me nervous to take out my braids and see whats happening underneath there...im on my 3rd pack of Yaz...u best believe if i notice anything shady im stopping the YAZ ASAP....ill just live with acne and horrible cramps until menopause
