Hey Candy, have you heard of or tried the Indian Head Bath? I posted a thread about it a few min ago, but I'm curious in to finding out how the regimen works...

I'm coming along nicely-I have not strayed from my regimen. I am afraid to attribute my loose braids to growth because it's only been 2 FREAKING weeks so for now I will allow for slippage and do a check in 6 weeks if they last that long. I did take a couple of braids out of the back row to keep an eye on the strength and moisture factor of my hair and it feels wonderful so I am pleased so far.

Awesome CandyC!

I have actually done that as a paste quite a few times too! ~snt it amazing! I am too chicken to post stuff for fear that somebody might try something and it jacks up their hair.that would make me feel real guilty.

ps next time try adding egg to it and a little EVO. Girl your hair will be blowin in the wind full of body.

I think my hair will respond better *after* my relaxer because right now the powders are making my hair hard. However, the oils are fantastic for my NG. I shikakai oil on the scalp and alma/coconut oil on the hair.

I've also been experimenting with Keshavardhini (sp?) oil. It's supposed to be yet another great oil for growth. It says to mix with 100 ml of coconut oil.

Also trying out Mahabhringrai and Bhringrai oils, both good again for preventing shedding, keeping the hair dark, fighting dandruff, and growth.

I just need help with these powders. I guess I'll have to keep experimenting until I find what works best for me. I thought about mixing the powders with the Shikakai/Alma/Reetha shampoo I got from the Indian market early this year. Don't know why I stopped using it. I really liked it. :yep:

hey Serenity, the powders shouldnt be making your hair hard, maybe more water is needed to the mix, and rinsing them out for longer - i sometimes rinse mine out for half an hour! then follow up with conditioner for 10-20mins

NATURAL TIPS FOR HEALTHY HAIR For Dandruff
  • Massage the Scalp with pure coconut oil. This will also help for growth of hair.
  • Apply coconut oil which has been boiled with small onions. Wash it off with a mixture of green gram powder and water drained from cooked (boiled) rice.
  • Apply a mixture of almond oil and gooseberry juice with finger tips on the scalp.
  • Apply the warm mixture of olive oil, lemon juice and coconut oil. Do a steam -towel- wrap for 15 minutes and wash the hair with a shampoo.
  • Apply a paste of fenugreek and mustard to the scalp.
  • Mix Shikakai powder with the water drained from the cooked rice and wash the hair with it.
  • Crush the leaves of five petal hibiscus flower and take the juice. Wash the hair with this juice.
  • Heat the oil with a little camphor. Apply the oil in the scalp and massage for 10 minutes. After 30 minutes wash the hair with a herbal shampoo. Do the steam -towel- wrap for 15 minutes.
For Healthy and Shiny hair
  • It is better to apply castor oil for a healthy growth of hair.
  • Wash hair with tea once in a week.
  • Apply besan in the hair and wash it with water drained from the cooked rice.
  • Soak a handful of gooseberry in a cup of milk for two hours. Make it as a paste and apply in the hair.
  • Apply the mixture of an egg white, 2 spoon of castor oil, 1 spoon glycerin, in the scalp and hair. Wash it after some time.
  • Massage hair with warm coconut oil an hour before washing. Let it soak. Cover your head with a hot towel and wash your hair after an hour or so.
  • Boil a few hibiscus flowers in coconut oil. Filter and use this hair oil to control hair loss and thinning.
  • Do a 'steam-towel-wrap' once in a while, if your cuticles are damaged, as this steaming opens out the pores and absorbs the oil.
  • Deep condition with curd, beer and egg.
  • Mix a little vinegar in warm water and rinse your hair with this solution. This will add bounce to dull and lifeless hair.
  • Soak 1 teaspoon fenugreek in curd and keep it for a night. Have it in the next morning.
  • Boil coconut oil with the juices of curry leaves, basil, hibiscus flower and gooseberry. Apply on hair, keep it for sometime and rinse.
  • Egg white and curd is a good conditioner for hair.
  • Take a cup of coconut and mustard oils. Soak half a cup of curry leaves in the oil mixture and keep it for a night. Next morning, heat on a slow fire till the curry leaves turn crisp. Remove from heat and add two to three camphor balls. Allow oil to cool and then strain. Apply oil to hair roots using cotton wool along the parting and massage in circular movements. Leave the oil overnight and shampoo the next morning. Repeat twice a week.
  • Add a lemon peel to a 'shikakai' and 'amla' mixture while washing your hair.
For Graying
  • Take a little Mehandi , an egg, juice of half a lemon, one table spoon of instant coffee powder. Mix it together and apply on the hair. Wash it after 45 minutes.
  • Boil one cup of dried gooseberry with 4 cups of water. Add a pinch of sugar in it. Keep boiling till the quantity of the liquid reduces to one cup. Mix 2 cups of Mehendi, an egg, juice of a lemon and the gooseberry solution and apply on hair. Wash the hair after two hours.

whats your regime? x

So far, I'm oiling and scritching/massaging my scalp nightly, sometimes twice daily if it's looks dry. I was using coconut oil to seal, now I'm using it for a prepoo and just incorporated a warm towel massage before pooing with diluted herbal poo, follow with diluted herbal condish for a leave in.

I haven't graduated to powders yet, mainly because I'm in twists and I fear having it trapped in my hair. I sit under a warm dryer after the scalp massage for about 10 minutes, then baggy overnight. Oh, one other thing is I found this Bronner Brothers growth/moisturizing lotion that has, among other yummy ingredients, AMLA in it:grin: and I slather that on my twists every day. I take a bhringraj supp 2x daily along with my msm, biotin, and multi with iron.

I still dc 2x a week, once with LeKair and the other time with ORS RP. KISS is not in my vocabulary:spinning:

girl how much is your water bill???:lachen:

Hey Leslie_C and Candy C :headspin:I was reading a Henna Online Intruction book and it suggested Filling a bathtub with water and dipping the head in the tub of water a few times to loosen the solution and make rinsing easier after dipping and swishing the head a few times, conclude by rinsing the rest out in the shower.

I did this with my first henna application and I found it not so bad. Having never hennaed before I have nothing to compare it to, but so far so good. I was just thinking maybe you can do this for your powdered wash and maybe spend less time under the shower head? Just a suggestion because I have not tried the powders yet although I'm dying to. The local indian grocer in my area is forever having expired goods. I mean the manufacture date is 2001 exp 2003. I was seriously considered using it because I really wanted to. I will place an online order later this week. I'm all braided underneath my hair weave net so I have great worry that the powders won't rinse out, so I may not try them out at all.

Let Me know what you think.:spinning:

Hello Candy C,

Quick Questions: Do you add 1 cup hot water and 1/2 cup cold water with this mix before pouring over your hair? How long do you allow it to soak in your hair before you rinse?

Thanks

hey, yes the water measurements r right, as warm as you can handle...

i left it in for around 5 mins, meaning i didnt rinse it out for 5 mins...

then when i did rinse, i rinsed out for ages, as this mixtures seems to bind to the hair more.

i rinsed for about 20-25 mins with warm water

then deep conditioned with tresemme vitamin b5 conditioner :yep:

Does alma oil darken or lighten your hair? Does anyone use it everyday?

Alma, Mahabhringraj and Bhringraj are just a few of the Ayurvedic oils that darken your hair overtime, preventing gray hairs. I use all of them, in some form or capacity, daily or every other day to help seal along with castor oil on my ends.
