Man! This was complicated! My hair grows in different layers (always has). So, I just took some measurements. It was actually pretty easy to figure out because (before March) the last time I relaxed my hair was April 9, 2005. On March 3, ‘06 I had the last of my old relaxed ends chopped off...before relaxing again.

My hair now ranges from 7 to 11 inches. I have about 1 to 1.5 inches of new growth (different parts of my hair grows faster)…So, (accounting for variables like trims, etc.) I think retain about 5-9 inches a year on average, again depending upon the section of my hair. The back grows fastest (.75 inch a month), the front more slowly (.5 inches or less), the sides somewhere in between. Whew!!! :D

I see you took the scientific approach, Legend. LOL I never thought of it that way, but it makes sense that different parts of hair grow at different rates.

I never really noticed. Since I have been taking care of my hair and I haven't had a relaxer in 3 months I measured and I have had about an inch and a half of new growth. I think I might have been overestimating how long an inch was. I measured with a tape measure and was totally surprised:eek: .
I didn't know my hair grew at all... I don't know if this is because for the last month and a half I have really been taking care of my hair or what. I guess that would be 5-6 inches per year which is great because I thought I was below average. :D

Well, I said five because that's what I usually end up retaining but I'm not really sure. Year before last I got 8" but that's because I had a growth spurt and got 1" per month in the summer months.
So I guess I can say: at least 5" and up to 8".

Well I know that I probably only get about 4 inches, if that. I lost a lot this year to breakage. Even though I have healthy hair practices my hair just grows slowly. I started taking Omega 3 & 6 Fatty Acid supplements so we'll see if this helps, along with a better diet, more exercise. I would love 6 inches of hair by next year in May. I can't wait to get below collar length. I want it sitting comfortably on my shoulders. I hope MN helps get me there.

I voted 5 inches. My hair only seems to grow between 4-5" per year. I factored in trimming, but I didn't factor in breakage. So I might actually be around the average 6 inches/year.

Before LHCF my hair only retained about an inch a year. I'm not joking. It may have grown 4-5 inches a year, but I only retained 1 inch if that!

Now with LHCF I can honestly say that my hair grew about 6-7 inches in the last 12 months. I retained about 4-5 inches! Which is how I got from SL to almost APL (2 inches to go):spinning: I'm so happy!

since i last posted in this thread it looks like my hair growth has either improved or im retaining more length. at this time it looks to be about 8 inches per yr.

Well, I measured my new growth since June 7th and my hair has grown about 4.5 inches and that was around the beginning-to middle of November. So, I will say that 4.5 divided by 5 months times 2 will give you somewhere close to what my hair grows. Anyway, I think it is between 9-10 inches a year.
