I am having the worse time with dryness on my scalp and hair.

I was wondering are their any products that exfoliate the scalp. I need to start with a clean slate instead of trying to moisturize all this dead skin.

The curly girl book uses brown sugar + conditioner for scalp exfoliating. I think ORS has a scalp exfoliating kit that comes with a toothbrush. I think it can be found at walgreens.com and goldenmartbeautysupply online.hth

I think they sell scalp brushes at SALLY'S. I want to go buy one this weekend too because i need to remove that layer of dead skin on my scalp

How to Massage Your Scalp

Massage your scalp 1 to 3 times a day using a 100% natural scalp massager. Never use plastic or artificial ones — they scratch the scalp and they are invasive to your hair and scalp. Begin at the nape of the neck, massaging gently but vigorously in a circular manner for 3 to 5 minutes or until you feel the scalp tingling from the flow of blood. (Massage in this way after applying shampoo the second time to your hair, for one minute and three minutes respectively.) While brushing does the external work on the scalp and hair, scalp massaging works internally, stimulating the deeper tissues of the scalp where the sebaceous glands reside. When activated in this manner, the sebaceous glands produce a balanced portion of sebum. Be sure to begin your massage at the nape of the neck, because it contains the largest concentration of sebaceous glands. Massage beyond the hairline further down the nape of the neck to release any lingering tension and stress. [source: JashBotanicals.com]

I was just about to mention this.
I tried it and couldn't really get the sugar to my scalp, it just went all over my hair

wow, I never tried it but only read about it. Maybe the hair could be parted and the brownsugar-conditioner mix could be applied with fingertips and gently rubbed with the pads of fingertips. did it rinse out well?

Yeah, that sounds like a good plan, I'm just to lazy to part my hair first. Plus, am not a fan of parting tangled hair.
It rinsed out fine though. The sugar melts under hot water anyway.
It's definitely worth a try...

i know that vickid goes to a place to get her scalp exfoliated and she also uses shikakaki powder to exfoliate her scalp. she mentioned it on the board. she said it made her hair grow.

I parted my hair and massaged the brown sugar/condish mixture to my crown area the last time I washed and it came out great and felt much better.:drunk:

I bought a soft cheapie toothbrush. I massage in my shampoo and then brush it like I'm brushing my teeth - or wet the toothbrush and dip it in baking soda, then scrub onto a damp scalp. When I'm done I rinse. I figure it better than me scratching the ish out of myself and since I'm in braids the toothbrush keeps the flakes from getting stuck in my hair :gag:

@Aidenberry03 thank you for posting this thread
@tiffcurl, I may have to check out shikakaki, There goes my no more bandwagons.:pinocchio:assimilat This place is addictive.
@JD2'd, I'm glad it worked for you. I'm getting excited now.
@Atlien11, thanks for the tutorial on how to massage
@Soliel185, thanks for telling us your method of exfoliation

How often do y'all exfoliate?
