Hi girls,

I am 8 1/2 weeks postrelaxer and I have very fine hair. I was so afraid of washing my hair because it turns into a tangled mess and I experience lots of shedding. Well I read on here about the oil rinses. I mixed coconut oil and some castor oil(heated) and drenched my hair with it and put a towel over my head for 30 minutes. When I rinsed I had barely any breakage and the slip was remarkable. I then proceeded to wash my hair with clarifier and used a Nexxus emergencee treatment(for my protein treatment)and then dc'ed with Aphogee and a dpr11. I was so pleased- barely any shedding. I then added just a little ntm to my wet hair and waited until my hair was just damp to add even a little more ntm with/castor oil and experienced hardly no breakage at all. (Previously I noticed when I put in my leave in's and tryto detangle right away my hair would shed tremendously) Now I detangle in the shower.

Glad it worked well for you.:yep: I just have a quick question, why did you clarify after your oil rinse? Wouldn't that wash away all the benefits? Either way, it worked so that's good, but I thought oil rinses went last.
 
My first attempt at doing an Oil rinse was a failure.

After being around for a bit longer,
I actually think the type of oil you
use as your Oil Rinse does matter.
So I am willing to give it another
try, but with a more traditional carrier oil
with the right properties.

I am planning on DCing tonight and
I think I am going to add Olive Oil to my
conditioner along with some
Cinnamon (Still debating the Cinnamon). :drunk:

Nicole1976, Make sure to post your results. Like you, my first oil rinse was a failure- I used Safflower oil.:nono: I'm interested in knowing if the olive oil works better for you and also how you apply it. Thanks.

Clarifying sounds great for fine hair ladies. I know the oil can be a little
heavy.

yeah cause my 1st oil rinse was a mess!! my hair was so so str8 and heavy!! i do a hot oil treatment which sounds like may be the same as an oil rinse? i use a combo of amla and coconut oil on dry hair overnite or sit under a dryer for 20-30 minutes then rinse and clarify and dc. the last time i did mix my clarifying poo w/some conditioner(nourish spa).
 
Try this:

Go ahead and heat up your castor and coconut oils, as much as you want to use but don't apply yet.

Get in the shower and clarify.

Have your hot oils ready in the shower and add the mixture to your hair.

As you shower, allow the oils to marinate.

Rinse with hot water.

Do your conditioning treatment.

Voila!

Same here honey...my hair is really fine so oil/conditioner prepoos and/or hot oil treatments work much better for my hair.
 
LOL @ marinate:grin:. To answer a bove poster, I believe an oil rinse is done after shampooing where as hot oil is before?:look:

Oh, I thought you did the oil on wet hair. Yeah, I consider oil rinses to be putting oil on wet hair and "rinsing" the excess oil out with conditioner.

But if it's working for you... you can call it whatever you want. :)
 
I tried an oil rinse last night and it turned out GREAT!

I use a Herbal Castor Oil that I got from an Indian store - and my natural hair felt so smooth and soft.

Also I didn't need to apply lotion after my shower because rinsing the oil out soft my skin soft too!

Herbal castor oil you say? You happen to remember the brand? That sounds like a winner.

I'll check and post it when I get home!

It cames in a tall bottle and is red in color. I bought it with a bunch of other oils, and finally got around to opening it - it feels thick like regular castor.

So this doesn't block the deep conditioner from getting into the hair shaft?:ohwell: And what oils do you use Sareca?
 
Can you wear your hair in a bouncy rollerset after an oil rinse? This process sounds like it will leave your hair oily and hard for moisture to enter the strands.

I haven't read the threds, so excuse my ignorance.
 
I just got my tub of coconut oil and I can't wait to put it to use next week (just got a fresh relaxer so I'ma let it swang this week :grin: ). Ideally I would like to oil to cleanse so I can cut shampoo down to an as needed basis. So what do you guys think, should I apply to oil to wet or dry hair? I will be deep conditioning afterwards, and also I'm not much for styling so the feel of it in terms of weight isn't important, it's straight to the bun anyway.

Oooopsie! :blush3:Never mind Sareca, I just saw how you do it on another thread and it all makes sense now! You deep condition on dry hair first, rinse that out and then apply your heated up oil on wet hair and rinse w/warm water, then apply an instant conditioner and rinse w/cool water. GENIUS!:brainy: No wonder your hair is so dope girl!

I don't think so....unless we've been calling it wrong all these years. My mom always did hot oil treatments on my hair and so did the Dominicans. Shampoo, heat up oil, pour on hair, sit under dryer, rinse. (some may add conditioner after, although no one ever did to me).

I got some of that! :yep: Where did you go to get it? I use it on my ends. It's red in color. ;)

That's exactly how I do it:

1. Shampoo or clarify (if you need to)
2. Hot oil treatment (I stay under dryer, but with oil rinse, my understanding is that you don't need to).
3. Rinse oil with HOT water
4. Add conditioner. If doing a deep conditioner, go back under dryer. If doing a semi-deep conditioner in the shower, do your business, then rinse.;)
